In The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2 episode 4 Naofumi sees Glass, L'Arc and Therese again for the first time since Glass tried to kill him. In this video I talk about who Glass is, what powers and abilities she has, and how she will fit into the story of Shield Hero as the series goes on. This means major spoilers from the Shield Hero light novel series, so don't watch if you don't what to know what happens with Glass, whether Glass becomes an ally, or about future characters like Kizuna the Hunting Hero! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I don't think the other three heroes in Glass' world are killed until later on in the story. They just don't do anything and don't appear in the story.
Ah, yeah, you're right - I misremembered that (they're just kind of mentioned briefly and died offscreen). Actually, the heroes were just useless at first rather than dead, which still left their world in a dire situation.

They were a lot like the useless heroes in Naofumi’s world, except they were summoned to different countries each so they’re kind of strangers to each other already.
Yeah you're right there not as useful as the hunting hero (and we'll see what happens to her later as well). They were just a what if the three from Naofumi world didn't get their grip in time.
I honestly consider Glass to be an alternate world version of Raphtalia given how Raphtalia is with Naofumi and how Glass is with Kizuna
Yeah, she pretty much is, considering Raphtalia and Glass are both the descendants of their world's line of pacifiers. Glass basically should have the same role as Raphtalia but her world is in a worse state.
and both of them have a one sided love interest in a hero that is too dense to realise
I know this may be off-topic, but I do hope Billy Kametz, Naofumi's VA, is able to go into remission and recover.
I didn't know about him (I only watch subs so I don't really know anything about the dub VAs), but I assume from this he's fighting something pretty sucky. Hope he wins.

@@NatalieXHunter sucks cause he really kills the role. He also dubs Shin’s voice in 86, btw I recommend, totally amazing show. I kept finding freshly chopped onions in my room for some reason while watching it… anyways, he couldn’t even finish the last two ep due to his diagnosis, which really sucks cause he kills that role as well.

You have no idea how happy it made me to hear the old lady has more scenes and stuff in the future. Shes by -far- my favorite part of the whole Shield Hero anime. I really hope the anime eventually gets there, cause I love seeing her casually kicking ass and Granny gettin the hots for someone else? Hell yes.
Around 3:00 to 4:00, you talk about Glass' world only having one Holy Hero alive. This is true, but not because the other 3 had been killed. Holy Heros can be, and normally are, summoned alone. In Kizuna's case, she was summoned alone, without the others, to deal with the threat of the Demon Dragon. This is the same quest that Glass was sent on, where her class mates figured (and overtly hoped) she was going to get herself killed. She ended up meeting Kizuna and becoming best friends. Shortly after the quest completion, Kizuna was captured by a rival nation, accused of being a criminal, and thrown into the infinite labyrinth.
After that, the other 3 Holy Heroes were summoned (and are presumably real) by 3 unnamed countries. We hear about them being alive between the events of Book 9 and Book 17, having a matter-of-fact attitude towards the waves, thinking of them as "updates". Clearly, the implication is similar to Ren's, Itsuki's, and Motoyasu's worldviews in Books 1-6.
Interdimensional travel? video game leveling mechanics? Pretty spicy stuff. Really hope that the traversal into Glasse's world is portrayed well in this season.

I don't want to be spoiled, but I'll comment for the algorithm. Also, Glass has a really cool theme. Weirdly I always felt like there were structural similarities and sequences of notes between it and the title track "The Rising of the Shield Hero" but not sure. I'm not at all knowledgeable about music and I couldn't find music sheets for them anyway. My theory was that Glass might be in a similar situation as Naofumi in her own world, particularly the ostracization part, but she seemed to get along with L'Arc and Therese so eh.
Yeah the season 1 OST was all round great - Kevin Penkin doesn't really miss though.

after coming from the web novel, I'm relived that the light novel added someone with restrictions like the hunting hero. I always thought it was the stupidest idea that naofumi had all of those offensive restrictions being the shield hero when the other 3 heroes aren't reduced to glass cannons.

Where can i get these light novels
I had gotten confused when people kept saying that three of the heroes in Glass' world are dead when discussing her motivation for invading Raphtalia's world. At lot of people seem to think that and I've seen plenty of people comment on that. However I have since read the light novel and from what I can tell they were still alive as of the events of volumes 8 & 9 when Naofumi first visits their world. No one made any mention of it while he was there. What's more when Ethnobalt shows up in Raphtalia's world after the War of Heroes arc he talks about the deaths of his world's heroes as if it is a recent thing. What's more Naofumi makes note of the monsters being different than before, being strong and giving more EXP following the deaths of most of the heroes. So I believe they die during the gap between Naofumi's visits to Glass' world.
While I get the other three aren't important to the story and don't survive until the end of the story, it seems like it is inaccurate to claim they are dead as part of Glass' motivation for attacking Naofumi or are dead in context of the anime. Although Kizuna being trapped in a labyrinth in which (allegedly) there is no escape and the other three possibly being incompetent is another story.

@@NatalieXHunter Yeah, I spotted that. Still I wanted to say my piece on it, since it kept popping up. It was something I had believed the first time as it was before I started reading the LN, or at least before I got that far. I started reading them while the first season was ongoing.
I glad that you mentioned about Glass x Kizuna Yuri like relationship in the video. Glass has one of the few noticeable and unique character soundtrack in recent isekai anime genre.
volume 8~9 points that the 3 heroes summoned to glass’ world were actually effective against the waves….until they weren’t anymore.
at that point, each of them backed off the waves and each went into the idea that the waves needed an update/patch for the difficulty. Its…practically 10 volumes later that we learn that they got murder-killed.
also a rather minor mistake as well is that Glass doesn’t have levels at all. all her stats and everything (except for SP) is folded into “Energy” stat for her specific race (spirit people), so even if she jumps worlds, she still doesn’t have levels and people has to make polite guesses whenever they have to gauge her strength in relation to levels.

additional, regarding pacifiers: just like pacifiers have to keep heroes in check, and straighten them if they go rogue… this job is shared on the reverse; Heroes have the duty to straighten the current pacifier, if the later decides they “don’t need heroes to protect the world” and power goes up to their heads (since not only the skills, but also having the “special anti-legendary weapon” the country has can basically turn off the weapons)

Yeah, I misremembered a couple of details here (I pinned a comment about the other heroes by way of a correction), but the basic gist is hopefully the same - it's really more to give people who don't know and want spoilers more of an idea about Glass and what is to come with her so I didn't double check all the stuff I was saying about mechanics and whatnot like I do if it's a video all about those systems, iykwim. Sorry about that!

I have never been on the Shield Hero server - I drop in on some Re:Zero and Mushoku Tensei ones very occasionally but tbh I never really know how to get into conversations in them because people tend to assume if you're a CZcamsr you're there to promote yourself and it can be a bit awkward lol! I only just started covering Shield Hero (I try to only add a new series to my main content once I've spent a couple of months reading it all and so I was planning for Shield Hero this season, Overlord next season), so my accuracy will go up once I've made as many videos about it as with Mushoku Tensei - you start to know these obscure things inside out after researching a ton of them!

a small recommendation on the side is to listen/read the additional volume 14.5 that complements a lot of info in-between volumes 14 and 16 which get referred quite a bit (such as the pacifier skills and duty)

I'd like to bring up something very spoilery regarding a past video of yours about the summoning of Holy heroes.
Spoilers:
As far as we know so far in the anime it's impossible to summon new holy heroes if 1 dies unless they all die. but we know about at least 1 very specific exemption. Shildeena the Future Holy Ofuda hero. but that was only possible because she couldn't be summoned at the start of the waves being behind a special barrier around Q'ten lo. and then being summoned by the Ofuda spirit when being close by to the Boat spirit when Naofumi was returning to Glass world.

Thank you so much! I feel like the anime is mainly speedrunning the tortoise arc just because the stuff in Glass's world is a bit cooler and feels more like a pay off to the stuff from season 1, so they just want to get to it. I feel like they may slow down the pace once it reaches the next arc.

I've read through the majority of the LN and manga, as well as watching the anime (so many differences *_*), but of the three, I think I prefer the manga's story most so far. I will say I'm rather excited to see the anime story move on, even though they should have made longer then a 12 episode season for season 2. They really could have expanded on the story, and added the sorely needed exposition that was left behind.
I like Glass, she's cool. I love fan warriors.
Also, really love the outfit in this video.

So the rules to the world of shield hero’s story is basically like how SAO Kirito can go to gun gale online as a newbie but can use his square slash attack from aincrad days. In this case, Naofumi can dimension step at the cost of his level and stats, but his skills like merchant and herbalist are still kept. It kinda reminds me of when you get all your lvl 72 OP 8 gear in Borderlands 2 and then the Lilith DLC was released. You need to level up 8 more times and replay the digistruct peak cause old lvl 72 op 8 is now equal to lvl 75 op 0. (I found it funny that my friends modded gear couldn’t put a scratch on some of the enemies after the DLC before BL3 came out!)
I like listening to your vids, but as I am also reading the light novels for Shield Hero and Mushoku Tensei, I am hesitant to delve too deeply. Still, as I am pretty far along in the Shield Hero series I will probably be safe for most of these vids.

It's like gambit from destiny, where you need to kill the oponentes on the other team.
Totally agree about the two old masters. Their fights they had, it always had this aura of "foreplay" to it. Not sexual or anything, but it was just, I know, just so damn charming. You defiantly get that feeling of a widow and a widower finder each other and falling in love after many years of loneliness after loosing their spouse, that sort of vibe.
I've often had these thoughts of how I would love my personal perfect ending would be of Shield Hero, you, if I wrote it. And one of them was the Rishia ended up being the de facto Henga Muso master of Raphtalia's world after the waves were over, passing the knowledge on to people there. And the old lady would pop over to Glass' world and marry the old master of Glass', and they would both teach their stiles to new people. Both living for another 100 years, sharing each others love through their fists, ikn, always though it could be super fitting.
Just like for once an attraction being shown through the respect of their fighting technique, and it not being sexual. Having what feels very much like an attraction between a man and a woman which is sexual by nature being portrayed none sexually. I thought it was very cool, yet still as sweet and heartwarming as any romance or attraction can be.
Ohh, and btw, also love Glass. She's such a bad ass character! And fun so see the respect there is between Naofumi and Glass given the "hatred" between them in the beginning. Also thought is was a cool concept with her as a race, having a race of people that are spirits but literally having a corporeal form. We always think of spirits as ghosts or, well, anything but corporeal. They are quite literally the opposite to human beings in that regard. So the idea of her having the same strengths and weaknesses as a spirit, yet still being in a fully human form, I always found that fascinating. Same with the Jewels, what an amazing concept. But that's to early to comment here, that for the L'Arc and Therese video.
PS. Here's to hoping old L'Arc succeeds in his newest endeavors, I feel sorry for him. We want that ship! ;-)
Haha yeah the current L'Arc plotline is also pretty adorable - he's actually my favorite husbando from the series, because he seems like he'd be more of a laugh than any of the heroes from Raphtalia's world (well, Motoyasu would be a laugh but not in an attractive way haha!).

Although, given how Itsuki and especially Ren develops, I kinda do wanna see them end up happy to. Ren's ship I would love to see, although, wonder if the author would rather see him go with Valley Girl.
Do feel sorry for Filo though, bird brain and all. How about dragon lady from GLass' world? I'll bet she could make a good wife out of him. I mean, lets face it, the two of them are basically the same, they would be a match made in heaven! ;-)
The female demon dragon is hilarious! As for Ren, I think it would be a nice story if he ended up with Wyndia, but I like him with Eclair more and you can't give Ren a proper harem because he's Kirirto, so he needs to have one actual waifu and then that weird SAO harem dynamic!
@@NatalieXHunter Agreed, he's the one who can't have a harem cause of his apparent Kirito inspiration. Eclair is the most obvious choice for him, I just love the backstory with the other girl. And given that badass scene at the end of (can't remember the novel number), where Ren and this guy is fighting as a pair, it could seem as an open door at least for approval from dad. Itsuki would probably go for Rishia, does seem sparks are going on.
Guess we just have to wait for the author to come back from his hiatus. I know he was involved heavily in season 1 and has done a few minor projects as well. My guess is there is 5'ish volumes left, give or take. And given fans wasn't to fond of the first two drafts of the ending, he's writing a new ending in one go. Or using what is still there, just making it into LN format. Guess we just have to wait and see. Would just love too see at least some news of what's going on. But I guess no news is good news.
I think the hiatus is just because the author was working on the Reprise of the Spear hero light novels - they fit in the current arc of the main LNs so I guess this was the right time to do them (and they've been completely rewritten from the original web novel version of the spin off too). But as someone who quit writing novels altogether and became a CZcamsr due to lockdown-induced writer's block, I think a lot of authors struggled with it and perhaps had lower outputs or picked less intense projects during the last two years... I'm sure they'll be back to the main series soon.

Raphtalia's spoiler video is going to be insanely long, but I'm excited for it when it eventually comes out. Miiiiight want to split it up into 2 parts, maybe pre-Takt and post-Takt since that particular arc is sorta where her evolution as a character shifts a bit given the whole....... Atla thing....... and Naofumi finally having emotions beyond rage and desires to kill and maim. Also I love the Katana Weapon, such a cheeky little system with it's iado inspired "on draw" mechanics and generalisic tomfoolery with the 8 Trigrams move-set.
Yeah, I was thinking of splitting the Raphtalia video that way actually - I have been known to make very long videos though haha!

I love seeing her with Naofumi. And no. I don’t ship the two. It’s different. When you think about it, Naofumi and Kizuna are the same character with obvious variations. So much so, I’m convinced the two could be a Big Brother and Little Sister in another story.

I absolutely adore your videos, especially about Shield Hero (And Mushoku Tensei--though I've only seen one or two and stopped bc it made me want to watch the show ^^; )! They've definitely made me want to pick up any reading material it has so I can get a better understanding of the series, especially since season 2 cut, what sounds like to me, a lot of content and rearranged some parts.
downside, I'm not exactly sure where I could find the manga or light novels atm ^^; Anyone have some recommendations on where they can be read/bought at? (Physical and/or digital is okay with me!)

You can get most light novels from Amazon or Bookwalker - if you don't mind digital copies they're pretty easy to find. Physical can be harder as it kinda depends what country you are in and Amazon is often out of stock on some volumes of any given series. I read digital copies myself so it doesn't really bother me but it can be a real pain for people who collect the physical ones.
I'm hoping that the story winds up with the heroes find a way to safely fuse the two worlds, bringing the unified world's holy weapon count to 8 and vassal weapon count to 16.

I can certainly do a video about what happens to Filo (she has some good storylines coming up) though her growth as a character is really, well, she's one of the few that pretty much stays the same - which I think is fine because I think she's really funny as a crazy gluttonous chicken!
Hey Natalie, I have a question. So you know how some anime and manga/light novels have different distinct art styles with some being realistic or others being more slender. I've been trying to figure out what is the name for each art style but its been pretty difficult. Initially i wanted to know what the stereotypical modern anime art style is called but wasn't able to find a definitive answer(only name i found was "Puni Plush"). If you've got any insight on this it would really help me out. If not thats cool too.
I have no idea, I'm afraid - I'm more knowledgeable about writing and story stuff than art, so I know what you are describing as a difference but I don't know anything about the technical side of things with manga artwork :(

It was never said which, but Naofumi's first visit in Kizuna's world, there are hints that Kizuna already had a curse series. (On seeing Naofumi's, L'Arc tells her how different his from her's). Amd it seemed like she got the sloth from the accessory that was attached when she got kidnapped, and the fact that her friends didn't knew about the other effects makes it sound like it was new too.
Yeah, it's possible she had a different one beforehand - I kind of took it as her always having sloth and having some skills from that, but it not going fully haywire until the accessory was attached (like, Naofumi only has wrath, but he didn't get a bad kickback from it until he unlocked and used blood sacrifice, so I sort of figured Kizuna had some sort of early form of sloth that changed as it got stronger). Still, with this being a spoiler video where I'm trying to explain a lot of concepts mostly for people who haven't read the series, I figure it's fair to just say she has sloth, as she does, and it completes the set (a lot of people asked who had sloth after my video about the other three heroes).

the accessory was locking the weapon preventing her from changing it (also not the longer it's equipt the hard it is to swap out.

I was expecting to see that too... I don't know if they'll put it in later somehow, but it seems like they skipped loads of stuff with the tortoise. I was expecting to see the giant monster battle and them fighting all the weird stuff inside the tortoise before they ran into Glass...
That there folks is why Naofumi is built different, he’s a protagonist that hates harems and girls throwing themselves at him

I hope so as well I mean stage 4 of any type of cancer usually kills the person that has it that being said it's not a one-hundred-percent fatality rate with even stage 4 for any of the types of cancer that are known to medical science today , in fact I know someone personally who had stage 4 cancer and not only did she beat it she has been in remission for about fifteen years so as cliched as the old saying may be it still holds true:where there's life there's hope!!!

Will the story move on at all? The last novel was in 2019 if I'm not mistaken.
The author has been working on the Reprise of the Spear Hero spin off novels, I think because that story fits at the point in the main story that the light novels are up to. It's not like they've stopped working on the franchise at all. I don't have any news on when the next volume will be, though.
Interesting, I would like to know please, How Raftalia can leave Naofumi as hero weapon from another world ? I doubt she can accept that since she loves him so much ? So Glass group will stop to run after Naofumi to kill him ? And one thing is strange is why they can traval to Naofumi world so easily, how they know he is stronger than other heroes weapon? How they can know too much things from this world
She doesn't leave Naofumi - she is allowed to take the weapon with her back to her world as it can teleport her back for waves if needed (and they end up going between the two worlds a fair amount anyway).

I have a question i never found a answer too. The weapons are all alive and can choose there wielders. We know glass beliefs are wrong killing the holy heroes dooms both worlds.
So why dose the fan choose to help her still?

Does it doom both worlds, or is it just not cool? I don't think the Spirit cares too much about the other world at the end of the day. We know the spirits can communicate with each other, but that doesn't mean they are on friendly terms.
I kinda get a Final Fantasy V vibe from all this. It seems that the waves merge worlds somehow... So wouldn't what would REALLY happen is Glass and Raphtalia's world would merge together? Or something is merging worlds. Raphtalia's World was merged at least twice, Glasses world probably was as well, but S'ynes was destroyed. There are two competing powers at play or something.
Are her beliefs wrong, though? We don't know that killing the holy heroes dooms both worlds. We have seen people from one world (S'yne's enemies) who have survived by helping with the destruction of other worlds, and one world (S'yne's) that has been destroyed, so it seems like what she believes may actually be true (I am talking in terms of the LN canon, the WN canon may be totally different on this). Kizuna just can't condone it, and persuades them to work together to find out if there is another solution, which leads to them trying to find the actual root cause of the waves. When they go back in time and the waves are different, it seems they were originally set up as a literal death match between two worlds, with the intention being to kill heroes for the entertainment of the god-like beings behind it (so it was all Squid Game for aliens all along, more or less). Therefore, killing the heroes of another world wouldn't seem to doom both worlds - it would seem to be how the people were originally told they could 'win'. It would seem that that other solution Kizuna wants to find is something the weapons themselves don't know about, so they'd have no reason not to do what seems to be the only thing that would protect their worlds, just like Glass.
@@NatalieXHunter actually i do have one. It is said specifically, that the spirits that are housed in the weapons came from another world for the purpose of defending the world from the waves. That to me dose not mean attacking other heroes who are protecting the world.
Also there is the whole thing with the staff hero too which is odd to me as well.

My question here is why can't noifumi can't use a shield sword or one of those Cannon shield
Naofumi has no attack power, so when he does use something like that, it just doesn't do any damage. It is unknown why this is the case at the moment in the LNs, because the previous shield hero (who we see when the village gets sent back in time) can use some attacks like that, as well as shield bashes. My theory is that in his time there were only the shield and bow heroes, so the shield was less specialized. After that world merged with the world of the sword and spear heroes, so there were four holy heroes, the shield became more fixed in its role as pure defense.

You spoke about the romantic interest, but aside from Raphtalia and maybe Filo(although i think hers is by no means romantic) is there other girls that actually fall in love with Naofumi? and does he ever reciprocate? or does he treats them like raphtalia in an one sided love forever?
There are absolutely loads that fall in love with him - it's actually a feature he has that demihumans and monsters are attracted to him, so there's even an actual demon dragon who wants to 'mate with him'... But, as of currently in the LNs, he hasn't properly reciprocated with anyone, though he is going towards getting together with Raphtalia.
At first he's just put off sex altogether because of Myne, but later, something happens that makes him want to be a bit more open about that aspect of things. But, generally he just seems to think there is too much other important stuff going on to really start a relationship, so while he starts being a bit more romantic with Raphtalia and even mentions marriage, he's really thinking more about that being a thing after they resolve all the other stuff going on and don't have to worry about saving the world all the time. I think that's actually quite refreshing, I mean, for a pragmatic character like him to be caught up in romance drama during the kinds of situations they are in might be more entertaining but would make less sense!

Indeed it's better to first solve the problems and just then focus on other stuff, sadly i doubt the LN will keep going after the "main problem" is solved, but ohh well.
