Hey Joe ik your not so excited about Apocalypse coming back . I think you guys missed Kang . That orb city that was shown in Egypt is were Pharaoh Ramatut is . Kang is the one who pulled them through time . Using Apocalypse with Kang makes perfect sense
Gambit's return was teased at the end with Apocalypse picking up the playing card and ending his line with Death, which was the horseman Gambit became. Great review guys.

This is what happens when you treat the source material of the X-Men with love and respect. Easily the best X-Men portrayal and show that Marvel has ever done since Endgame and Loki.

To be fair, Captain America in any story where he isn’t the main character is a vessel of the US Government’s authority. In his own stories, he’s much more rebellious, like he was in MCU’s Civil War.

Cobra Kai is an example of an IP/franchise returning many years later and kicking ass.
They are the costumes from Pryde of the X-men. If you saw that pilot, it was rad to see them here
It’s also most of Dave Cochran designs for the X-men of the 70s and 80’s comics. He was the original designer creator artist of Storm and also Nightcrawler and Colossus.
They actually teased Gambit's return in the form of a horseman of the Apocalypse "Death" in the after credits scene imo :)
The Nimrod infecting Bastion's dad thing is a follow-up to the episodes "One Man's Worth" from the 4th season of the original show, which is basically the series' version of Age of Apocalypse. You see a scene from it in the intro where Bishop and Alternate Storm and Wolverine destroy Nimrod. Basically Mastermold sends a mutant named Fitzroy and Nimrod into the Past to kill Xavier in College before he formed the X-Men, which creates an alternate reality and Bishop, his sister, and that universes Wolverine and Storm have to go back to save Xavier.

i know, they were liked it was rushed. Umm it happened in back to back comic issues. It was beat for beat fatal attractions story, They even had Rogue and Sunspot pull the Colossus betrayal.
@@SonicBoyster How? it was back to back issues of Fatal Attractions. Which was about stopping Magento on Asteroid M. Wolverine losing his adamantium and Xavier shutting down Magneto's mind happened in the same battle. Some of the scenes were 1 to 1 remakes of the actual comic panels.

And has enough for readers to be happy, at the end of the day as long as the characters are the characters they can make the story flow anyway they need it to, it doesn't have to be 1:1. The characters are the most important part
They made a separate comic series for the animated series. A different universe, before the multi verse become so common.

I was amazed how a whole saga was cut down to 1 episode. The orginal tv show would at least do a 3 part episode or a 4 part episode for a saga like that. The show condense these saga into 1 episode or 2 episodes how that giving those saga justice?

I'm sadden this show is finished, this is one the best shows MARVEL has produced in a very long time. Everything from the writing to the music to animation. Everything was amazing. MARVEL should take note moving forward from this show with their upcoming projects. This show kept on hitting each beat with the right ammount of humor, darktones, action, heartfelt moments. This is how I like my MARVEL

When they went to the old facility it had thier old outfits, so when they suit up for the big fight they only had the old costumes available. So Narrortively thier new outfits are older classics outfits. IRL its a throwback nod.

Hold up, let’s be real this season has been the best out of all the seasons
An extra 3 or 4 episodes would’ve helped. But the low spot that stuck out to me was the sound design. Loved the animation nostalgia as I’m 44 and this made me feel like a kid again…especially the intro. Looking forward to more in the (hopefully near) future.

Time travel is inherent to the X-Men especially since they made it clear they are pulling directly from comics canon. The timelines of 3000 B.C. and 3690 A.D. are associated with the Rise of Apocalypse and The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix miniseries. The use of time travel in X-Men is decades old and is not a gimmick. The creators clearly stated they are pulling stories from the original series, which pulls directly from comics canon -- To remove it would be detrimental to the very things we love about the show.
Hell...Apocalypse is a 5000-year-old mutant from Egypt infused with 43rd-century technology from Kang the Conqueror who traveled back to the present day to fight the X-Men. Cable is a present-day mutant infected raised in the 39th century who traveled back in time to save mutants AND whose parents were pulled to his future to raise him for a short time before returning to the present.
If you don't like time-travel, you might as well get off the train now, because it's going to get even crazier.
X-Men '97's biggest problem (really, it's only problem as far as I'm concerned) is that 90% or more of its automatic fanbase members are over the age of 40. That's pretty much unprecedented for a cartoon show and I was finding that 30 minutes is nowhere near long enough of a run time for each episode.
We Gen-X'ers don't have the short attention spans we had in our teenage years and 30 minute episodes now feel pitifully short. I think that making each episode an hour long would make the the "best show on TV" today. The stories are so well done and captivating that even children and teenagers would be completely sucked in despite the longer run time.
After all, as a child, I fell in love iwth Star Trek and EVERY Star Trek episode was an hour long. I think that doing this would solidify X-Men '97 even more and possibly turning into a cartoon masterpiece that would be capable of the unthinkable... eclipsing Batman:TAS.

Hits nostalgia perfectly while doing enough to be super entertaining for even people who did not read the comics. makes you CARE about the characters just enough. yes they rushed it a bit but they really just tried to bring in multiple important stories from the 90's comics and I am SUPER excited to see what they do next with how many seasons they will be doing. solid 8-10 for me also. One of my BIGGEST problems is the cameos from Iron man and others yet they do NOTHING to stop the shit from happening. You cant tell me Stark would not jump into trying to stop Asteroid M from falling.
I took Disney+ just for X-Men '97 and have unsubscribed again while waiting for the next season. I absolutely loved it!

Alright, you guys convinced me to watch the show and I absolutely loved it👍 Also, I thought that Peter Parker and MJ cameo was pretty cool, specially because they actually maintained the original character designs from the 90s Spiderman TV show 🤌
That bastion character final form seems very similar to Apocalypse final form in the series. What if that Bastion survived and then went to the past as well and then got absorbed by that Apocalypse character En Sabah Nur and became the character in the the original X-MEN series we all remember and know. Kind of come around full circle on it as would make sense on how he kind of becomes metallic and also has the feeling and motive to end everyone just like how Bastion just did at the end.
Bastions look at the end was based on his X-Men second coming design
I liked it because it felt like fresh Marvel content because it didn't feel weighed down by the slog of the MCU. For the first time in a long time it felt like being in the Marvel Universe. Featured Characters showing up didn't feel like shameless cameos.
I was always more a fan of X-men than any other team/comic.
You can see the passion, of the producers and writers, at the same time they take us to new places. It's not just nostalgia per nostalgia. There is development, high stakes,homage and etc.
One of the best things Marvel has done.
Ok... can't wait for next Wednesday for season 2. Yes I demand it now!!

I haven't watched the whole video yet but the fact that this is a continuation and not a reboot, so it's actually adding new things and new villains and new storylines is so fucking amazing considering the times we live in where everything is just the same thing with a new coat of paint on.

Rewatching the original helps to complete the experience of 97. There are key episodes/multi-episode arcs to rewatch (One Man’s Worth, Beyond Good and Evil, The Phoenix Sagas, the episodes featuring Mr. Sinister, and the episodes with Nightcrawler. Also, there is an episode with Wolverine and Captain America in season 5).
To be fair... Bastion by himself without backup is not THAT powerful.

Personally I'm really looking forward to a possible 3 ages of Apocalypse story including the Cyclops and Phoenix story the young Nathan Dayspring.
I'm excited to see if they work in the Age of Apocalypse event.

Hey AJ Crew just got done watching you X-Men '97 review I found the video was great the only question I have is about when you guys talked about the downgrade costumes did anyone try to mention yet that when they went back to an old base after the mansion was destroyed yet again in Ep. 9 where they regear and supplies leading up an Easter egg throw back to "X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men" in there costumes at the time.

I won’t say this show is “perfect”, I have a few issues (the Madelyne Pryor stuff felt rushed, episodes four and six felt a little weird pacing wise, the villains overall plan and motivation was a bit vague, plus they spent a lot of season setting up rogue‘s turn to the dark side, but then all of a sudden she’s is good again in the final), that being said, marvel really knocked out of the park on this, great animation, characters, and stories… I gave it a full price. I feel bad for whoever hast to make a live action MCU X-Men movie now, they have a high bar to jump

There is so much RESPECT, not just for the comics but for the original show that it brings me more joy then anything I've seen from Marvel in as long as I can remember.
Morph was created to die. Just a redshirt. But the original show brought him back in small doses but never really committed to it.
Seeing X-Men '97 do him justice was so refreshing. We knew he got along with Wolverine because of how he reacted upon his death but actually seeing them being bros. was just wholesome and amazing.
Also damn impressive how well he fits in considering his original voice/laugh and quips and props to the creators for using his powers to show off so many other marvel characters!

X-Men 97 was sheer excellence. Also, I have the same first name as Magneto which is Eric and it makes me relate to him even more aside from him being bad ass and I was pretty familiar with Bastion because I saw him and fought him in X-Men Next Dimension video game

The downfall of comics is that nobody stays dead (pretty much nobody), Gambit's resurrection is teased in the last scene, by Apocalypse.
I looked it up, apparently all these cartoons depend on toy sales. Since toy sales aren't really a big thing anymore, cartoons don't happen much and are MUCH shorter. Sucks though.
There was Samurai Jack that was revived for one last season done very well just like this one was but man X-Men 97 truly was amazing
This show is easily a 10/10 for me. I was a fan of the X-Men show back in the day, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this new version. But they really exceeded my expectations. I loved every minute and every detail of it, and now I'm sad that it's over. But I'm grateful that the X-Men franchise finally got the respect it deserves.
This is a great show I spent weeks watching all the old seasons storylines to get a better perspective and it help to make it more enjoyable to watch X Men 97 and how there gonna deal with Apocalypse in season 2
Great resumption of a beautiful series. Of course there is something to be said about the different power levels of the "zombie sentinels", but you will always have things like that. And it's not nearly as bad as Dragon Ball Z, for example.

Joe, Wolverine’s wounds dont look like bullet holes. His metal skeleton was pulled out through those holes like liquid. This is the correct way they should look and is accurate to comic.
Also, the new costumes are a downgrade? WTF are you talking about? Those were their pre-Jim Lee 1980s costumes and are beloved by any X-Men fan who knows of them. It is the fan favorite orangey-yellow and brown Wolverine suit that everyone loves and the only Cyclops suit that matters. Jean Grey’s new suit is her original Marvel Girl costume from the original X-Men team and it’s 1000 times better than that orange/blue Jim Lee redesign that is somewhat disliked by large swathes of the community. This is why they put her back in this same suit in the comics a while back.

I absolutely loved this series, but my biggest complaint more than anything, was why for the love of God did they send the man with the metal skeleton to fight Magneto??
Captain America now is way different from past. He was the boys out back in the 90s. Now he alittle disenfranchised with the government.

if this is any indication of how the Xmen will be in the MCU, LFG!!!! I get a feeling Marvel/Disney are testing the waters with this show right now to see what can translate into live action MCU. A little glimpse of the future, on how the Xmen world would interact with other SuperHeroes. Also, i think Marvel/Disney are going to cover their bases by having the Avenger stay PG rated. Have the Xmen movies be PG13 so they can go into more controversial topics as well as crazy bonkers storylines. And finally, have Deadpool(and i guess Blade) be the rated R movies. Thus having many franchises cover all movie ratings and have something to watch for everyone
