Episode 5 ‘Remember It’ is not just one of the best episodes of an animated show, it’s one of the greatest tv episodes ever.
I watched that early in the day before my college class and I was thinking about it all day. This is what I call QUALITY
Some of y'all need to relax and/or watch better TV
@@kdot89There's not as much good TV as this show now. Have you even watched it?
As much as I grew up with X-Men 92 and X-Men 97 exceeded my expectations. I can't in good faith agree with this comment when there are shows like Attack on Titan
@@marcusalexander4437The show that straight up copied code geass's ending?
Attack on Titan is good but nothing it did peaked like episode 5. Otherwise you'd be mentioning an attack on titan episode that was actually better lol
X-Men '97 is definitely the best onscreen representation of the X-Men ever
Disagree but sure.
@@Rico_Carnywhat is the best on-screen adaptation, in your opinion?
@@Rico_Carny Just say disagree then, don't be a passive aggressive wimp.
😊
@@Marksman3434 Did you ever watch the original series? It's way better. Like literally the comic books brought to life.
My dude Cyclops finally got his badass skills showcased.
him doing his mvc2 super was dope
That's one of the best things about this show, I love Cyke and now after so many years he's finally given the respect he deserves
“You never skip the X-men theme”
Damn right.
I’m still waiting for some super fan to pull out all the variations that showed up this season on CZcams.
I'm waiting for a hyper fan to do a Cupcakke remix
I'll download them all if that happens Brothers!
Bastion was a fantastic villain as well. Which is usually where so many of these superhero shows flounder.
Theo James’s voice was perfect for that role
Milky way ghetto line is definitely gonna be stuck in my head forever😂 fantastic show.
Absolutely. We live a post "Milky Way Ghetto" society now.
It’s not like she was wrong though lol
I love how much depth was given to Magneto, he really did give xiavier's dream a try, multiple times this season. But at every single step of that process he was persecuted, his friends were attacked and his people were murdered and genocided. Even though his plan and execution of it might not be ethical, you can understand why he resorts to it. Having him at the forefront and as the leader of the X-men was a genius move in my opinion.
I guess. He was a good guy maybe 3-4 episodes. 2nd episode, he was on trial. 3rd, he fought other mutants, Madeline and Sinister. 4th, nothing. 5th episode was Genosha massacre.
Magneto this seaon was based. I was hoping for a good rebutal from Charles in the final episode, but he really was reduced to begging him to stop
This series asks the question, what if Charles is wrong? It really was incredibly thought-provoking and subverted what you thought you knew. So well done. I can't wait for season 2.
@@emmanueldelmoral4771
Didn't charles literally control magneto's mind to restore the magnetic field of earth?
@@darkspaces5776 Only because he completely failed to convince him.
That's what happens when I fail the persuasion check and resort to brute force in Baldur's Gate 3.
Not only did this make me have respect for Cyclops, but also for Jubilee. I love how she grew over the season.
Give Jubilee her flowers. She and Cyclops were my favorite characters this season.
Am I taking crazy pills? Jubilee was just a side character supporting the storyline of another minor character who never really went anywhere other than establishing that he has a lousy mom. How did she grow?
The only thing I feel like a lot of people don't talk about enough is the quality of the voice acting. Rogue's line at the end of episode 5 has me tearing up, Scott's rage filled screams when he goes all out and of course Bastion and Magneto waxing lyrical at any moment they get. It's Not easy making these lines work but they hit as hard as live action would have, if not, harder.
Everyone brought it, but to me Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Theo James as Bastion were just fantastic. And the original cast that returned didn't lose a step at all, but Lenore Zann as Rogue and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler ate up all the great lines they were given.
“I can’t touch you Remy!
Your heart may beat for me, but I can’t feel it, you light up everything you touch, but never me”
“There’s things deeper than just skin chere”
This is why the X-Men is a much more popular and relatable group compared to the Avengers or Justice League. This series surpassed everything I expected.
I agree, but good modern Justice League comics are really top tier these days as well. Dark Knights Metal is so so good. Not Death Metal though, never Death Metal lol.
Right? It's like with the Avengers-MCU taking up all the bandwidth for the past 15 years, it's easy to forget why the X-Men DOMINATED the marvel comics universe for decades before the advent of the MCU. Until now!
@@FellaGuy2death metal aint so bad
@@leonardobraynen1524 gosh idk, your opinion is just as valid as mine. I just didn't really like it.
@@Quandris It's hard to remember that the MCU started with the Avengers because they were canonically the least interesting IP in Marvel's stable, the one they couldn't sell off rights for when they needed money, and the only team they still had the rights to when they started making their own movies.
Now that it's clear that when they get it right, they're light years better than Fox and on the whole more consistent, I look forward to what they'll do now that they have control over the 'good' IPs X-Men and FF again. MCU would probably even be responsible for the best Spider-Man, if Sony hadn''t been deadweight on their partnership, at the same time they got exceptionally lucky that someone made Spider-Verse for them.
you can tell that the people who made this show didn't do it because the studio told them, it was a show made by people who loved the x men and had something to say, you just can feel all the passion and love in this here, it truly prove the grifters wrong, also, love you dan, you're my favourite reviewer
Welp, that's bc of Beau DeMayo who said he wanted people who were fans of the source material and not the OTHER type of writers who sneak in and do what they want to piss fans off.
@@sahdirellis4901 having fans about the source material is always a good sign
My favorite side effect of this show is watching people who have totally written off Marvel Studios & the MCU as passé and superhero adaptations as “over” rave about this show. Though it is frustrating as someone that is still a fan of this stuff to see people twist themselves in knots to justify the idea that this show is an anomaly and that Marvel Studios has nothing to do with its creation or development. The man responsible for some of Disney+ MCU low points is also responsible for shepherding this series, along with the best of MCU tv shows. He deserves credit for both the losses and the wins.
Its always been just hot gas. They're all gonna go watch Deadpool too. And what comes after.
I went in to X-Men ‘97 expecting just to enjoy some nostalgia hits (that theme song, what a piece of art), that it turned out to be a prime example of how to properly update and advance older properties and realize the massive potential the X-Men characters always have and rarely achieve was amazing to watch. Can’t wait to see if they keep it up!
There was a LOT of love and care put into this show and it's evident in every single second of this incredible first season.
This could have been a boring nostalgia cash grab. Instead it was an emotional, thought provoking, and exciting series. The team working on this really did an amazing job. I loved this season. It was great!
Totally agree Dan, skipping the intro would be an absolute travesty. I grew up with the original animated series and loved this season. My kids did not watch the original, but now want to go back and watch it.
X-Men '97 is one of the best television series in the last 20 years, period.
From episode one, to ten. Every arc is connected, every character, and the journey contains so many feels.
I absolutely love the writing, voice talents, and the music. They are all amazing
What? oh you definitely a casual.
@@Rico_Carny casual? I watched the original animated series as well.

One of the best shows of the year
X-Men '97 🤝 Dan
Top of their game
When the first two phases of the Infinity Saga were being criticized for mostly having unmemorable villains, I've always said that it's b/c other studios held the rights to X-Men, Spider-Man, & Fantastic Four. Between Magneto, Mister Sinister, Bastion, etc... this series really showcases those threats. There was even a time when Magneto was often voted as the greatest comic book villain ever above The Joker.
I just want a good doctor doom
I've always maintained it's a matter of execution. MCU reliably blew it on villain execution in films, yet the fact that they hit it out of the park with Kingpin and Purple Man in the Netflix series shows that all it takes are writers who gets it, and actors who can deliver. It's not like Bastion was really top tier in the X-Men gallery, but this show nailed the execution with great writing and a top notch performance. MCU Ultron's plan was nearly identical but the movie blew it with crappy writing and bad CGI (Spader did the best he could with what he was given).
@@chrisblake4198 Execution will always be a factor, but a couple of criticisms were that the villains were often just guys in business suits or have the same abilities as the heroes: Iron Monger, Abomination, Whiplash, Justin Hammer, Red Skull, Alexander Pierce, Yellowjacket, Kaecilius, etc... Even Killmonger falls into this category despite being written very well.
I love how everyone had a moment to shine in this show.
Just bought a xmen97 shirt! Big fan of this new season.
Marvel needs to do there movies just like this. Respect the material, and respect the audience who not only spent decades growing up with these comics but are also the ones who are going to spend $$$ on movie tickets.
An X-traordinary review to a beloved animated series. X97 is a good impetus to restart the 1990's Marvel animated universe.
I loved the original XMen and totally agree that XMen 97 was even better - even tighter writing and gorgeous animation. Plus justice for Cyclops
As an XMen '92 alum, i wont disagree with you. And as a diehard Wolverine fan Wolverine taking a backseat in season 1 was a great call.
Some might call this review, X-cessive hyperbole, but I agree that X-Men '97 is X-cellent!!
Thanks for pointing out how horny the show became. Because the character designs and animation is far less horny than the 90s show, which apparently had people up in arms when they showed the new designs. But hilariously the show ended up being so much hornier than the original.
The charged up claws scene was dope
I don't really watch TV shows anymore, but I have seen the original show and based on your high praise...I think I'm gonna have to give this a shot.
You're in for a treat it's so so good
Focus on the serialized shows some of the one offs are kind of week and animation can be subpar. Plenty if ranked lists can help you out
The animation in X-Men 97 is so good because it was animated by Studio Mir, who did My Adventures With Superman, Scorpion's Revenge, Legend of Korra, etc. The studio was founded by people who worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender and they'll be doing the animated Avatar: TLA movie.
Also, I love all the different ways they used the show's theme. They made an epic orchestral version for the big action scenes, they made a melancholic piano version for a tragic scene, they made an ethereal operatic version for a big climactic scene, etc. And I love that they gave Storm an incredible theme song, I really hope it becomes her official theme like the how the show's theme has become the official X-Men theme.
Also studio mir was involved in the Harley Quinn series from season 3 onwards.
Episode 5 had me choked up. When i finished it, I was full on crying. Absolutely excellent story writing. I’m re-watching it for sure
That one Nightcrawler and wolwerine scene is tremendous
“Da name is Gambit, Remember it!” Thank you X-Men ‘97 for doing my boy right.
They did him dirty
This show reminded me that I like the X-Men in the first place. I had legit forgotten.
4:00 as someone named joe cruz martinez after my grandfather Jose Cruz Hernandez. My parants named me Joe because we are fair skined and they didnt want my name to be a reason i didnt succed in america. A jose becomes a Joe because they were afraid of how the world would react to me and wished id rather be born a white American. This scene broke my heart for the position my parents were in back then.
I also love the Marvel Animation lead-in. Nine seconds of perfect buildup to what you're about to get.
Drunk british guy, nerd dude, and thier entire toxic army get to eat crow. Doubt they will admit they were wrong but at least we can enjoy how amazing X-man 97 is.
Lol they just had a whole segment praising it. Not sure why you'd think they wouldn't praise something good 🤷♂️.
It's called not being biased
Here here. I hope they’re all eating dog sh*t
@@JohnGoetzGamingthose clowns review stuff before it even comes out. They are CLEARLY biased.
@@toons8744
They review trailers and give their thoughts based on past productions. Look at what they predicted for house of the dragon and how much they love it now. Perfectly willing to admit when their predictions are wrong
@@JohnGoetzGaming their bias is what influences the predictions. Not past production.
This is the best version of the X-Men. FAR better than any X-Men movie ever came close to being. It was well written, well animated and a great continuation of the original show.
This is the best X-Men content on a screen and the best Disney-Marvel content in long time (possibly ever).
X-men always ways super rich in its themes and very left-leaning. I'm glad the creators of X-men 97 understood the assignment, they clearly love the show and its message.
Eh seems to be well liked by more right leaning CZcamsrs so I'm happy they presented things more maturely and centrist so that everyone can enjoy it like TNG did.
@@JohnGoetzGaminglmfao. Nothing about this show is centrist. It goes beyond simple one or the other spectrums, but its message is clear: tolerance and unity is the better way than might makes right, or conformity.
@@toons8744 sounds like a centrist message to me. The right doesn't like tolerance and unity?
@@JohnGoetzGamingman who cares??
Its beloved by comic book fans- period!
@@leonardobraynen1524
Exactly fans of all types! That's what I said how wonderful that is
Fast-paced, bold action, lots of twists and lots of memorable dialogues. Apart from that, great dubbing and music. I'm truly amazed at how beautifully they blossomed almost every character, especially Jane Gray, Cyclops, Storm, and Morph. The minus - a few inaccuracies and major plot shortcuts (episodes are only 30 minutes long, but are packed with many threads). And Scott and Jane's baby made me laugh - he was born looking like he was about 8 months old. Apart from that, it's great - they really exceeded my expectations.
I was ECSTATIC to see Charleys name all over this show! Her being responsible for the Motendo episode felt like kismet! So proud of someone I technically only know through the internet!? Such great work.
She/they is really pretty! I never remembered her from Movie Fights, you're lucky to know her.
While still not AS good as it should be, FINALLY there is an X-Men TEAM show. Not just the Wolverine, Erik, Charles and sundry female, show. This really is the best X-Men, non-comic, property we've gotten thus far. My faves, Rogue, Magneto, Jean and Scott finally got chances to really shine.
Even Sunspot in this show had a greater character development than Cyclops in the movies.
What we need is a new Marvel vs. game by Capcom, lots of reference to the X-Men vs. Street Fighter series on this 😎🙏
I believe it has set the bar for Marvel's adaptation of the X-Men. I love how it has matured and it's willingness to explore the dark aspects of character's storyline
I was watching with my yung nephews when Cyclops mentioned the "Black leather" quote, it was sad that I was the only one that laughed. Nobody got it. Im really getting old
Alright, that intro got my interest enough. I'll be back after I watch the series.
This show had me in tears nearly every episode
This series is honestly next level. I can’t stop recommending it. There were so many great moments
I expected this to be good and fun - I did not expect it to be THIS good. It was an incredible use of the material.
I haven’t been this in love with a animated series since the dc animated universe with justice league unlimited
This. 😁
The made Cyclops a MAN in this series.
This season of tv is kinda a magic eye puzzle. It does every smart thing and stupid thing possible, right down to taking gambit's death seriously and bringing back Magneto with no explanation.
You see what you want to see. I came in expecting a good time, and that's what I got. That doesn't mean it's invalid for anyone else to get anything else out of it.
No one, who grew up in the 90s, dare to skip the intro of old X-Men series and this new X-Men 97.
This might very well be the best legacy sequel to an existing property of all time, only rivaled by the likes of "Cobra Kai".
Given how his animated series ended, seeing Christopher Daniel Barnes showing eagerness to continue, plus the appearances of Mary Jane and Peter Parker both in and out of costume on this show, makes me really want to see "Spider-Man '99".
Blade Runner 2049 was an amazing legacy sequel.
Seconding the call for more Spider-Man: TAS.
One of my favorite reviews I've seen from you in recent memory. You made your points clearly and spoke well on X-Men 97's devotion to mature the show and characters along with the audience.
Thanks, Dan. I had NO intention of giving this show a chance until I saw your episode 1 spoil free review. So glad I saw that video that convinced me to watch it
A wonderfully thoughtful review Dan, well done!
Great video Dan! Loved this season of X-men 97. So good and so much fun to watch.
x-men '97 was so great. I was glad they kept the soap opera style dialogue from the OG series.
I shall never forget the phrase, "...inferior freak fluids." lol
This was a great review 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
One of the best Marvel shows period, as imaginative as WandaVision and as satisfying as the ending of Loki with more action than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Wonderful video on a fantastic show, I loved X-Men 97. Especially hearing the theme tune again.
Hey Dan, I’m completely on board with your new approach to conclude your reviews with a spoiler segment. I’m at a point where I’m decidedly getting more entertainment value from great movie reviews than the movies themselves. And that spoiler section you’ve been adding of late is the cherry on top - it’s like a great third act 👍👍
I loved it so much. I have never been on the edge of my seat waiting for a new episode for a while, and it made me exactly feel like I did as a kid on Saturday mornings.
Episode 5 though, that was the peak.
I’m glad you made a video about this. I was really curious about your thoughts on the show.
This was a great review! Made me want to rewatch the series again ASAP!
Great review, Dan. Thanks.
Yes!!! I've been waiting for this review.
I binged this whole season in 1 afternoon. I’ve been so excited to see your review
This show made me realize that Magneto was right.
Could not have said it better. I went into this extremely skeptical, but after sitting down to attentively watching episode 1, I was hooked. Can’t wait for season 2. This is PEAK!!! For sure.
Great breakdown, with only one VERY important missed point. The Jubilee focused first-half of episode 4 (Motendo) wasn't just a 'disposable' episode that was a throwback to the original show's 'adventures.' Jubilee originally existed as the viewer's surrogate - and in this episode she realizes that she has to grow up and face a harsh serious world as an adult. This show was quite literally the creators telling the audience (mostly now adults who watched this show as kids) that they too would need to 'grow up' and face the harsh reality that would welcome us in Episode 5 and beyond.
It also featured the hand-off from the old jubilee voice actress to the new one.
Ep.4 Is not disposable. First it shows the growth of jubilee, then it furthers storm sub plot, and for people talking about how light the episode was, well considering the next episode, thank god
We watched it on our Uncle’s projector, and it was the most hype thing I’ve ever seen. My uncle looked like a kid on Saturday morning!
Dan, only been checking out your channel in the past month. I have enjoyed it so far!
What a thoughtful and thorough review. You articulated the best points and parts of this show. No adaptation is perfect, but I'm hard pressed to find big flaws in season 1 of X-Men 97. Here's hoping season 2 delivers or even surpasses s1.
THANK YOU for sharing the same LOVE I HAVE FOR THIS SHOW!!!!!!
Excellent analysis for an excellent show. 👏
I agree with you especially with how their powers are showcased even better now. My favorite is Jean Grey’s upgrade. She uses her powers with better ease and no X-gasms lol. Her fainting left and right on the 90s version always made me throw my hands up😂
Great thoughtful review, Dan!
I still tear up at the remember it clips....damn that episode affected me!
This is the best commentary on what is the best Marvel project in a very long time. Thank you for your thoughts.

This show was full of perfect one liners. So good.
I absolutely loved X-Men '97 and it made me crave more X-Men so I'm gonna go re-watch Evolutions and Wolverine and the X-Men cause I really enjoy both of those as well!
I really enjoyed much of Wolverine & The X-Men as well (what a tease that it got cancelled JUST as you could see they were about to tackle AoA in a second season), but I skipped Evolution when it came out.
Is Evolution available legally anywhere?

Insanely good season 1! Very happy with what they did to my favorite superheroes. The writing and animation were just excellent!
Great review man Dan on x-men 97 it’s really amazing
I absolutely love this continuation of the series, I hadn't seen the original series, and grew up with a bastardized version of it all, and yet the only character I didn't explicitly know about was Jubilee, it goes to show how accessible these characters are, before the show Eric was my character in the entire x men mythos, the show elevated my love for the character 10 fold.
Thank you for the fantastic job
EXCELLENT summary, Mr. Dan!
