  • We're off to Sparta - but not to see what you're probably thinking of! Instead of 'those' ancient Greeks, we talk about somewhat less-ancient Greeks, the Byzantines (and the whole Byzantine-Roman thing), as we wander around the medieval citadel and Hagia Sophia of Mystras, just outside of Sparta. Oh, and motocamp beside another Mycenean site, as you do... this episode on:
The World Through the Visor: Part Seven - Sparta & Mystras

The scenery is just amazing! You have a well developed eye for framing a scene n such a way as to let nature dazzle us all. I liked that movie, "300." It was entertaining. They did get a few things correct about the Battle of Thermopylae, yet they chose a modern stereotype of the Spartan soldier and kind of stuffed him into it. Once again, I'm loving the ancient ruins. I'm so envious that you live in a part of the world where these things exist. I did go hiking in an old growth forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula once and saw a 1600 year old pine tree. It just isn't the same, though. I am eagerly awating your next installment.

I love this series and it was so nice to listen to your lecture and to see that gorgeous view. Nothing compares to Sligo in my opinion but it's really beautiful. Thanks for sharing, great job again Ferdia! Looking forward to see the next one :) ❤ Also it makes me smile that the cats find you and follow you everywhere :)

A masterpiece. Your videographic skills are so cool. Love the time-lapse of clouds like steam bubbling up from the canyon. There was a nifty jump-cut in one of your recent vids.. You just do honor to the glorious landscapes and the ancient buildings. Now I'm in love with stones. You never give history lectures; Ii's story time with Ferdia and it's charming as well as informative. And you don't even study up. You just know your shit.. Thank you for everything you do.

Two takeaways...Ferdia loved the refined history of Fall of Roman Empire; do you really carry all the details and names in your head??? Second, I have noticed in Greece how much of the anciet buildings still standing. I live in a 14 year old house with cracks in basement walls where water comes into the house. Amazing construction in greece. As always, loved the simple part driving along tree lined windind roads. Thank you for another video from Greece.
