  • Learn how VA evaluates disabled veterans with Asthma for VA disability benefits! It is important to establish a nexus between your asthma and military service. VA will likely conduct a pulmonary function test during the veteran’s C&P exam to evaluate the severity of service-connected asthma. Often, asthma is a result of toxic exposure in-service, such as that from Burn Pits.

please, if you are reading this, and you are a veteran with service connection; i know couple of veterans that dont want it (i understand,). importantly please pay it forward by sharing with other veterans that you may know or working with. please pay it forward... by telling them to go to their county veteran services. thank you!
i was in the gulf war from 1/3/1991 to 3/24/1991; after 20 years, i finally knew about service connection in 2020. i was discharged from the us navy in 1992, i worked with couple of companies and befriend with a couple older veterans; they may have service connected or not. if they did, they never shared it. still, so many veterans dont know about it. through work, i still finding out many persian gulf war and still some vietnam veterans have no clue about it because these veterans may be working in a private sector.
i just found out my intern, a usmc veteran from 1955 to 1958, who is 85, still did not know about it until i shared with him 2 years ago; he filed and got discouraged because the va denied all. he is refiling and appealing. thank you for reading this!

What do you do if you cant take the pulmonary function test because it triggers an asthma attack, you are on two anti-inflammatory inhalers, are given antibiotics plus other oral medication? You have to use your rescue inhaler three to four times a day and suffer from asthma attacks constantly, you see your doctor monthly because your asthma is not under control? Oh the VA will only rate you at 30% and your doctors say they are stupid by their own rules.

Are you prescribed prednisone at least 3 times annually ?
By your doctor or thru emergency visit ?
That would bring you up to 60%.

@@johnrussell5823 John, vasenra is not a steroid!
Google it and read about it.
      Must be prescribed corticosteroids
      like prednisone 3 times annually.
Ask your doctor about taking prednisone.
Especially if have asthma attacks often.
You must get a doctor that will work
      with you.

Can they cherry pick the best number on the PFT? I have an FEV-1 pre 59% and post 63% and take a daily inhaler but chose to use the FEV-1/FVC % post of 88% only to give me a 0% rating

It's important to note that the rating based on corticosteroid use requires SYSTEMIC corticosteroids, which does not include inhaled corticosteroids as they are targeted to the lungs and airway, and are not systemic.

How do I service connect asthma with no prior medical documentation during active duty? Or am I able to service connect as gulf war syndrome? I have taken the Breathing test from VA and was prescribed an inhaler and oral medication. Thanks

Hhmmm? Yea I’ve been diagnosed with all this 10 years ago at the VA . I even passed away and was saved right in the VA er, but went through 10 days of induced coma on the vent . 1 1/2 years of speech therapy due to vocal cord Disfunction from tubes. Va Dr even wrote a nexus letter stating it was caused by The Time in Navy and what I was exposed to for 3 years.
My daily life is hell at times and has been for 10 years.
Even had a heart ablation a year ago due to asthma. Polyps surgery’s X 5 because of it. Lots of ER visits. We just found out the DRs Nexus letter was filed in the wrong place 2 years ago and we resubmitted it as NEW evidence . I have a New CMP at the end of October . Pleeeeeease let this one be a GO for Atleast 75% it’s been hell. Maybe I missed it? But, if your going to post a video under your businesses Logo, etc… you should be able to keep up with just 4 comments. Thanks guys.
Your Video doesn’t really cover how the and why the VA would grant you The Asthma Diagnosis.
I have all this and it’s been hell trying to deal with them because they get to use all these loop holes afforded them through Congress. The state gave me 100% because they saw how severe my asthma is. Thanks and Great video.

How is FEV a meaningful measure with an episodic disease like asthma? It's not like you can run to the doctor and get a pulmonary function test when you're symptomatic.

I was just diagnosed with Asthma from private Pulmonologist. The FEV1 test was at 54%. Can I file a claim even though I have been out of service for 30 years? I spent 2 tours in the Navy in Desert Storm/Persian Gulf. 1990-1993. We spent months in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, etc... Is this still presumptive or did you have to file before 2021? I'm confused.
