    i bought the 2 stroke last year but only use it 2 times about 1 hour of use. I had a problem with mine cut off and wouldn't start back up for about 3 weeks of trying to start but it wasn't getting any fuel to the caburetor so i remove that switch thingy on the side and replace it with a conventional squeeze primer now it works great just 3 to 5 squeeze of the priming ball and she starts right up after 3 to 5 pull

    I just started breaking mine in today I purchased Lucas marine grease & a grease gun to fill the grease fittings full of marine grease then I popped off the propeller and greased the main shaft & added the gear oil and ran it.. There’s 4 steps to the process (1)I let it run for 10 minutes in neutral at 1000rpm (2)Then I put it in forward gear at 25% throttle where the notch is on the handle and arrow meet.. (3)I plan on finish breaking the motor in on the water for the next two hours of the break in period at variable speeds not exceeding 50% throttle the next warm day I get outside.

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  Před 2 lety

      I'm pretty sure its the same as a Mercury/Tohatsu 4/5hp and they didn't really change the 2 stroke too much over the years so that will normally pull up the right stuff.
      When we needed a replacement lower unit because FedEx broke the skeg off one of the motors, we contacted the seller and he had one shipped directly from China. I don't have the manual with me right now, but I believe it has a list of part numbers for maintenance parts.
      We've had these motors for about a year now and haven't had to replace anything yet (aside from the lower unit that was damaged).

    What are the differences between a 2 and 4 stroke besides mixing oil and gas and why would you choose one over the other? Thanks for your great information.

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Without getting into too much detail about how they each work, the 2 stroke is lighter (and more simple) and can generally get more power out of a smaller engine. The 4 stroke is quieter and more efficient, but heavier and needs oil changes like a car would. In many countries you can no longer get new 2 strokes because of emissions.
      Given the choice a 4 stroke is usually the preferred option nowadays, but they both have their pros and cons.

      They are 2 stroke. The 4 stroke version is a 6.5 hp so it could be a little faster,. The 2 strokes are lighter and have a built in fuel tank so we chose them over the 4 stroke model.

    I’m looking at getting the 6hp outboard but I’m concerned with getting parts for it. Have you had to order parts and be able to get them? Also the foot grease is it like mercury and Yamaha where u have the fill plug and drain plug? I heard the throttle doesn’t engage till you are pretty far tuned on the handle. Also is there a tilt lock to keep the water fully out of the water when drafting in shallow water?

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  Před 3 lety

      We had to order a new foot for one because FedEx damaged it, but we got it sent from China from the Amazon seller. We also ordered a prop with a different pitch from eBay which also came from China. For most of the parts, 2 stroke Tohatsu or Mercury 6hp parts should be a direct fit.
      Foot grease is the same. You can buy the pump at Walmart it uses the same fitting as a Honda or Yamaha.
      The throttle engages as soon as you pull the handle. It is very responsive.

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  Před 3 lety +2

      You have to go through the new engine break in process. It really just involves mixing more oil in and varying your throttle input. Once we got through the break-in on both motors we had to adjust the carburetor air mixture and now they both run fine.
      It seems like most of the bad reviews are on the smaller, cheaper engines. I'm sure there are some lemon Hangkai motors, but we've had these for almost a year and run the hell out of them every chance we get. So far, so good. We will probably make a 12 month update video in August.

      @@jlog24 the 3.6hp are 2hp Clones. There is something lost in translation between KW rating they use and HP rating we use. So the 3.6hp model is 55cc. A Yamaha 2 stroke at 50cc is 2hp. If you think Hangkai can make more power than. Yamaha with 5cc extra... Well, that should explain it.

    Wonder if any hangkai owner can help me here. I felt my tickover was too high after about 10 hours running in and decided to lower it.
    What a plonker I adjusted the wrong screw. I think I adjusted the air mixture screw.
    Now I need some idea where it should be set as per factory setting.
    Know I need to screw in till it stops then screw back out a set amount. Anyone able to help with a figure. 1.5 turns? 2 turns?. Tia.

      Factory setting on the Hangkai 6 should be 1.25 turns.

    Do they come with titles and paperwork to register and title . In SC any outboard over 5 hp has to be registered

      Do you know what kind of paperwork is required for registration? (MSO maybe?) I don't recall it coming with any paperwork other than the manuals and inspection certificate, but I can take a look next time I'm at the lake.

      Take the 6.0 sticker off. Get some sticker material and put a 4.0 on it or, or, or, order some replacement décals. Get the manufacture cubic engine size and convert it, they are most likely léss than 5 so you wouldnt be being dishonest.

      Make sure you are getting both spark and fuel. After the break in period on mine, I had to readjust the carburetor because it would run poorly and shut off and then not start. I replaced the spark plug too, but didn't really need to.

    A four stroke blowing all that oil smoke during a cold start is not a good sign. I think I would rather drop a few extra hundred for Suzuki 6 hp four stroke.

    Nope. I have a Tomking TK144FC four cycle air cooled. It starts super easy. It's quiet. Jellyfish and algae can't clog it's cooling. It's economical. It has pure oil in the crankcase. Two cycle engines are a big mistake.

    Hooky moves and not wearing life jacket. That water appears to be less than 40 degrees. Not a lot of time before hypothermia if he falls out of boat doing that maneuvering. No one plans on the disasters. They happen when you don't expect them.
