They are super tough especially the 2 stroke versions. I got a 2 stroke 25hp from somewhere around 97’ it is unbreakable.
dnh300 the 25-40 horse Yamaha 2 strokes are legendary and are prob the most reliable boat motor ever built. Yamaha is great in general but the 2 cylinder 25s and 3 cylinder 40s are truly unbreakable.

@@ethanhudson6028 To tell you something, my boat sunk. We pulled te motor out the water and removed the spark plugs. I pulled untill no water came out. And it started right up!
@@ethanhudson6028 also the new 4 strokes Tohatsu mercurys and so on, but this test give a picture just the abuse thing. All outboards if stay away from dropping them into the sea, should last minimum 1500 hours, 1500 hours is enormous amount of time on the sea.

I just got a skiff with a 78 mariner 8m 677, made in Japan by yamaha. Thought it was weird when I saw the yamaha logo on the block. But that motor runs great, so far, and seeing this video gives me hope it will do so in the foreseeable future.

I can definitely vouch for Yamaha outboards as my Yamaha 8hp outboard was in the North Sea for 5 days and i drained it and unseized the pistons and it came back to life 👌
Now give it to the Projectfarm channel and he can test whether slick 50 can bring it back!

Yeah throwing it in the water is not as bad as overheating it. I'm sure that put a few scars in the cylinder walls...
It probably runs better now than it did before dunking it in the water while running cleaned all the carbon out of it, and the shells blasting the cylinder walls rehoned it, thumbs up. I'm going to try it with my 175
Yamaha outboard 2 strokes, the Enduro series, are well known in the Pacific Islands for their toughness. Many times we or a friend has dropped an engine overboard, sometimes in 100ft of water, took a couple of days to retrieve it, pump it full of 2stroke and it just fires back up. They are like the marine equivalent of Toyota's landcruiser. Simple tech is hard to beat, basic water-sealed electronics and simple tough design. I heard that even the actual aluminum that is used on the Enduro series is not the standard used in other Yamaha OBMs? Not sure if that's true.

Yamaha outboard is # 1 on the world, I had 1 made in 1978 but still runs like it was made in 2021. Stable, reliable.

Bloody great motors had an 8.8 Yamaha went like a hurricane till a mount clamp cracked lost the whole motor in 400 feet of water

When I was a kid...I had Johnson 9.5...I only ran it one way WFO! It did seem to be tired by the time i got rid of it... I have a Yammi 200hp 2 stroke currently. It's a beast!

Was thinking of buying a Honda to replace my old 63 years Johnson, but it seems that if I want to keep an outboard for 60 years plus, Yamaha is the way.
Hate to see a engine sufering, but very impress with those results
Ok..them my Yama got off lightly, traveling at 40kmph it flew off the back..was in the salt river and mud for 4 days, x8 tidal changes straight after spring tide.
Well, it took 7 divers in zero Viz to find it.
Went straight into fresh water, then stripped and cleaned. Reassembled and now works just fine.
Dude, they are tough... but ouch, that poor little thing, hurts me so much to watch this.
I have a 5 hp 2 stroke Yamaha from around 1997 or so and it still runs.

This is a great example of why i swear by yamaha engines. Ive grown up fishing on a 15 foot flatsboat in rough northern water for striped bass and it has a 30 year old yamaha 70 on it. The same engine still runs as good as new to this day. There have been gaps where the motor has sat for a few years and yet she would still turn after only a few tries.
i have a 1 horse 99 johnson outboard i’ve hit rocks and everything been using it for six years about and just got a 6 horse for christmas can’t wait to test it out in the summer

I work a lot on those old 2 strokes. My bet is that an old Johnson would handle the same, but all the electronic components (powerpack, ignition coils, stator ...) on the mercs would just overheat and fail almost right away

Busted water pump after all that for sure. Definitely gonna have water in the gear box after burning through all those seals. It's still was still running then but I want to see what state it's in today.

@@VanBui-mz6id No, this is deceptive. 10 minutes underwater will corrode the etching on crank bearings. It will run but deteriorate fast. The Yamaha might be different, but better to protect from even dust.

Still to this day I hold full trust to a yamaha out on the water, I had a 40hp 3 cylinder and the impeller went out about 10 miles away from the ramp so I hooked up a hose from my bilge pump and just pumped water right onto the engine. It was slow going dodgy as hell but it got me home.

mark I grew up poor poor poor there were many times my generation of poor in this country had to put cardboard in our shoes for months at a time and do whatever to get a new pair and this was when we were children and to see this hurts me very much at age 65 this makes me sick I started out in life homeless with no future but I made one today the average American would fail they have had life way way way to easy but history always repeats it self mark my words

So easy to sell used once 2 stokes were banned new. Everyone wanted a low hours immaculate 15. Bought new $2,200 Aussie, sold after 6 years for $1,700.
Had a 15 hp 2 stroke Yammie on my 3 metre Polycraft Tuff Tender... stupendous motor.
When I upgraded to a Smartwave 3500 and a new F25 Yammie 4 stroke long shaft it was a great motor but the 15 2 stroke was exceptional.
