    I think the biggest benefit of a higher end cleaner is the frequency sweep. Different materials will have different "sweet spots" so to speak so not every area of the board would be optimally cleaned at the same frequency. I wind up moving the PCBs around a lot and can feel in my hand when the cleaner gets a bite on the PCB. Sweeping frequency would be moving that resonant point around I think. Certainly a better way to go! I just wasn't rich enough when I bought this cleaner to afford a better one.... but it's STILL working! Just an afterthought :)

    I've used a Crest P1800D at an old job and I got a cheap Chinese ultrasonic cleaner at home. I can't really notice to much of a difference. The Crest does a better job the first time through but I don't mind cleaning something twice to save $3,600.

    If I have a board thats soaked in liquid.. could be urine or soap residue.. I don't know the degree of exposure, I assume its necessary to remove ALL shields prior to the cleaning cycle, right? This is probably a dumb question but I'm kinda going to school with Jason. I have a ton of boards here that's not worth sending out for repairs, but I'm gonna try and get them fixed myself.

  • @seanbarr1232

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I was clueless on how to clean flux from circuit boards that I assemble and was searching for answers. I saw your video and had some reservations but I went out & bought a 3 liter ultrasonic machine from Amazon and a gallon of Branson EC. With the 3% formula, it worked flawlessly! I actually found that 3 minutes was plenty of time.
    My question to you... when is a good time to replace the solution?

    • @ststele
      @ststele  Před 2 lety

      Thanks you! Back when I made this video, I change my solution after every few boards I think. If I thought it was the slightest bit dirty, I would change it. Now, I wait until it's just about completely brown before changing it while it's still working just fine with the dirty solution. I'm going to start changing again more often though because I think my Branson EC may go bad or expire before I use it all!

    Hey Jason, did you ever run into killing the gyroscope sensor on an iPhone board by washing it in the ultrasonic? Anyone else common with that, is this even a thing? Or anyone can speak up and dispel such an assumption?
    I'm pretty sure that happened lately to me and the effect can be seen in the compass app for example - spinning compass like crazy. Even worse is due to the parallax effect of the homescreen, the background and notify bubbles wiggle around all the time. Pretty nasty - gonna try to replace the Bosch IC on the affected iphone 6+ board. My assumption is that it happened due to way to little liquid in the cleaner - it wasn't even half filled - hence i guess to much US energy to the board. Had it in there for 2 - 4 minutes in total.
    First time commenting on your stuff so let me say a couple of things.
    Huge thanks to you Jason! Man, you're by far my most favorite board repair video guy on youtube! First because of the "pro" type approach you have without trying to surround your craft by phony alchemy bullshit! You're the least bullshit guy around here I guess. You're trying to share as much of your experience as possible, instead of trying to appear overly important smart-assy. Love you for that!
    And second, man I love your personality and your approach on life. It's a delight hear you talking on stuff, whatever it is related to. Your positivity wins big time! Can't praise you for that enough. You are the kind of guy I would love to meet and know you in person and have as a friend.
    I learned a lot from your vids and gathered a couple of times crucial motivation to move on with the whole board repair topic. Definitely gonna send you some goodie some day!
    Big props to you and greetings from southern Germany.

      Hi, I have the same problems with gyro sensor and compass too, tried to repair iphone boards for the first time - and got 10 perfectly working boards with dead compass and gyrosensor. Used the same cheap ultrasonic cleaner as Jason, and filled it less than a half... Ordered gyro ics form china and waiting for them now. Compass ICs are much more expensive so will try replacing only gyrosensor for now.
      And I will definitely like to hear if Jason had the same problems and what can be my mistake.
      ps. Thank you, Jason, you make a great content, it hepls me a lot.

      @Anton-kl1jm Před 6 lety

      Hm, hey Nick, only just now saw your response. Well I replaced the gyro successfully on those boards. Took them from donors and reballed. No Issues with that. BUT
      Meanwhile im using a bigger, more sophisticated ultrasonic that has a soft mode and is used completely filled but again killed a gyro on a LG G3 board. And it actually also killed microphones on android boards since they are onboard.
      So thats kinda frustrating. Will try to tape the mic openings with capton tape in the future but am not sure bout the gyro. Now trying to not submerge the gyro if possible.
      To me this seems to be a quite serious problem field and im even more surprised nobody is talking bout it.
      The one I use is a pretty exact copy of this www.amazon.com/Tdou-Stainless-GT-1990QTS-ULTRASONIC-Including/dp/B01J7IPK1O/ except that it has a different name written on it and costs like 270€ in germany. Nice device, no sweeping freq but a soft function that apparently makes the device use half the amount of pulses per time. Didn't test yet if keeping boards in there with soft function is safe for the gyro.
      Device I use is this www.ebay.de/itm/ULTRASCHALL-GERAT-REINIGER-ULTRASCHALL-REINIGUNGSGERAT-10L-Digital-DEGAS-SMART-/261605250682
