    my trick is to put the board in the solution in a vacuum chamber. This both degases the solution and ensures the solution get into everywhere including under shields and stacked layers. I then run ultrasonic as usual, then put it back into the vacuum on a kimwipe to adsorb the liquid. the vacuum causes the liquid to boil creating positive pressure that forces out the liquid from buried areas. I repeat the process in the alcohol and dry for 30 min on an 80C hot plate.

    Very helpful video to demystify what Ultrasonic Cleaning is and how to do it with electronics. Only problem now is all of the links in the description have become expired and it is not easy to find other places besides eBay to look for this sort of machine and electronics cleaning solution. In particular, it looks like Derui only sells on eBay and they are the only machine at an affordable price point that provides the 'Sweep' function needed.

    Great video. I really like your presentaion style.
    Not only that but the pitfalls you point out are invaluable.
    That said, but what _happens_ if you underfill the machine?
    I mean, here I am, on a quiet, too quiet Sunday evening and I need to clean a circuit board but I've got only enough deionised water to reach the halfway mark.
    What will happen?
    Will the machine explode?
    OK, maybe not that severe but what kind of stress does an under-filled cleaner put on the components?
    And is that stress on the electronic components on the PCB or is it actually on the transducer(s) itself/themselves?
    The information I am seeking will benefit not only me but many others who watch this channel.
    Of course I'm not going to risk blowing up my machine but if it can handle a little extra stress once in a blue moon, like on this very quiet (commercially at least) Sunday evening, then of course, I want to know about it.
    I really hope you can answer my query.
    *The pressure's on!*

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 6 lety +1

      It is certainly preferable. The degas feature will eliminate air from the solution which makes ultrasonic treatment safer in the respect that cavitation is reduced. The sweep feature is the best way to optimize cleaning. You could simulate this function manually somewhat assuming that you have determined your chambers pattern using the foil test.

      Once it starts to discolor you'll want to dump it and refill. Usually we get at least a dozen or more washes assuming that nothing too dirty goes inside.

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s very helpful as far as cleaning and evaporation afterward. I would never put rubbing alcohol inside of a heating chamber like this. You’d be better off using a small amount of dish soap. Like a few drops.

    Instead of branson EC, can i just use isoprophyl alcohol (99.7%) along with distilled water? . Branson EC was way hard to find in my local. Im your subscriber from Malaysia. 😄🇲🇾

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 5 lety

      I’m not sure that’s a good idea. If anything you might add a small amount of dish soap instead. It’s not formulated for electronics like Branson is but I believe that it would be a better substitute than isopropyl. However you still need to make sure all of the soap and water are removed so an alcohol bath afterward might help.

    Not sure you explained why distilled water is preferred over purified water. I work in a lab and have access to deionized water. Is this ok to use?

    • @calderjonhughes
      @calderjonhughes Před 2 lety

      Deionised is purer than distilled. I’m using it.

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  Před 2 lety

      My understanding is that it is less about purity and more about the gas content. You will end up with plenty of impurities if you are cleaning something with corrosion. Gas bubbles may cushion the waves reducing the cleaners effectiveness and in worse cases may cause damage to the board due to cavitation.
