The same exact thing happened to Havertz in the Arsenal game but the referee said it was not a penalty because it hit is knee first and the ball was actually going towards the goal. It was already 4-0 at that point but still there is no consistency.
In uefa competitions, it does not matter whether ball hits another part of the body first. Ridiculous to have different rules in EPL and UCL
VAR isn't to blame this time. Corruption and match rigging is. Football is dead.
cry
I knew football was corrupt but this is crazy, ref said no, they force him to go to the monitor and say yes, and we try to convince ourselves they don't have the refs in their pockets
PSG completely rely on the revenue of reaching last 16
Saying it's rigged is lazy. The same handball was given against Real Madrid in their first UCL match against Napoli
Remember a few years ago when Man United got awarded a pen in the exact same condition in the same stadium against PSG ?
PSG has been robbed of results against Spanish and English teams for years, funny to see reactions from England and Spain when it happens to their clubs !
If Havertz wasn't a pen then there's no way Livramento was a pen, bonkers time for football, very hard for refs
Don Hutchinson is spot on. The game is being ruined by idiots making ridiculous rules and laws of the game. The referees don't know where they stand anymore. Handball rule, offside rule. 2nd phase, 3rd phase. What bollyx. . Stamp out the diving, stamp out the dissent. Simplify the rules and gain some respect back its not difficult
imo penalty kicks are too strong of a punishment for minor infractions like this. Unintentional handballs and slight contact at the edge of the box when play is moving away from the goal should not result in what is essentially an automatic goal for the other team. I know it's what the laws of the game are and I doubt that will change but it would be nice if some of these coincidental fouls/ handballs that don't impede a goal about to be scored would just result in a close free kick or something that doesn't give a free goal to the other team. Too many games are decided by unlucky bounces of the ball to hand or slight contact that the attacking player flops to only because they know it gets them a pen. In that sense, I think the game is slightly broken
I've been saying this for years. The punishment has to fit the crime. Indirect freekicks is a better punishment, and way more fun to watch. But then i think penalties shouldn't exist at all.
It has reached the point where you can literally aim for the opponent's hand inside of the 18-yd box and you will be 'rewarded' with a penalty. Football has lost all context and nuance. It has become very black and white
What I question is how on earth could the referee look at the video and agree he had made a clear and obvious error.
The Var operator may have considered it a pk, but the ref should know better.
I knew football was corrupt but this is crazy, ref said no, they force him to go to the monitor and say yes, and we try to convince ourselves they don't have the refs in their pockets
Something not enough people point out is that VAR is run by human beings. The technology is fine. But the VAR referees behind the scenes are just like referees on the field. They see the game differently and make decisions differently regardless if they are on the field or in the VAR booth. VAR is not some AI algorithm officiating games. It’s human beings operating it who make mistakes just like referees on the field.
They make decisions differently... depending on how much they bet on their favourite sports betting platform or how much they got paid to rob another team... Corrupt referees are as old as the sport itself, VAR only made it blatantly obvious what everyone already knew.
According to EUFA VAR was supposed to correct referee mistakes, my Goodness it made things worse and the referee to look stupid
Even more reason to get rid of VAR.
Go cry more. PSG deserved to win . Newcastle’s fault for parking the bus and just defending 😂
How old are you?
VAR at fault, they showed inadequate angles to on-filed ref which is an issue in itself. Reminds me of when Willock was shoved into the keeper during a Newcastle goal last season and it was chalked off incorrectly via VAR
The same guy gave Argentina the first penalty in the World Cup which was very weak as well
Why aren't no one talking about the previous arguable calls that weren't checked by the reff?
They didn’t check the Psg handball because it wasn’t in the box. But they probably should have because it was a red card offence.
It's because Newcastle is everyones new favourite Oil club.
yeah all these goofballs never talk about that.
VAR is not consistency in football 🙄
Their decision cost Newcastle a win
Cost Newcastle potentially millions.
😂😂😂. It earned them 3 points last week and it was ok. This time they were on the chopping board...oooh your favourite team was humiliated by VAR and all are crying but when they stole it from arsenal it was all ok.
@@kiamakariukibud9024 understand the difference. Even independent bodies ruled it a goal a few weeks ago. But this time everyone knows it wasn't a penalty. UEFA has even admitted it was an error on their part. Do you get it yet?
@kiamakariukibud9024 That was a goal against Arsenal 😆 🤣 😂
@@Kwami357that was a penalty for PSG 100%
I'm pretty sure VAR simply showed the frame of it hitting his elbow and not the running motion or hitting the chest. If you don't show the whole story it's going to lead the ref into making the incorrect assumption - but yes, he did bottle it.
" Has football ever been so broken?"
Why not the same title when it happened against Arsenal?
Arteta was crtisized for being angry about it and told to move on and respect the decision.
VAR is mashing up football
You'd think these guys started watching football yesterday with the amount of outrage over a handball in the box.
I can point out at least 30 WAY worse decisions from the top of my head in the CL in the last decade alone.
Stop the cap lol this is one of the worse handball decision ever this goes against uefa handball guidelines which states if the ball is previously deflected from his own body onto his hand it should never be a pen and yet they gave it still. Corruption at its finest
Look to the link between psg and uefa board member
Don's maybe forgetting that (from what we mere viewers could see) the VAR showed the ref a limited view of the Tino incident ... one angle (slowed down) and one still. If he'd shown the ref other angles and a full speed view he may have stood by his initial decision of no penalty 🤷♂
The potential Copenhagen penalty was more of a penalty shout than the one given against Newcastle because the player's arm was up and out from his body (yet still should NOT be a penalty). But in light of Newcastle getting screwed over the night before, VAR convinced her to revoke the one against Copenhagen. The consistent thread in so many of these decisions is VAR re-refereeing the game, not just being a safeguard against "howlers."
Get Cameras encircling the pitch and Ai on the job.
When Ireland was awarded a pen because of van Dijk handball there was no such an uproar, instead claims that he's finished
Yet Galatasaray didn’t get a penalty for hand ball in the game vs Man Utd.
We don't know what a hand ball is anymore. If you are lucky you get the decision.
They should stop giving too many penalties for handball, the rule should be that only in extrwme cases that the player really tries to save with his hands only then give penalty.otherwise you have the players intentionally try to find the hands of other players in order to win penalties.its ridiculous.its same like cheating.
Another in a long series of ESPN grammatical errors. “ VAR decision turns PSG draw “ ? Surely it’s ..” VAR decision gives PSG draw “ ?
It hit the arm, Don.
There was bias from fifa before VAR to favor certain clubs, no surprise there is bias after VAR.
You should have used the same passion to argue when Newcastle were awarded a Controversial goal against Arsenal by VAR. You are arguing coz the officials were not English. You should also condemn the Refs and VAR in the EPL who are making deliberate mistakes.
Sweet Karma
Teams should be allowed to ask and check. No decision should be wrong if it can be corrected. Fans shouldn't be angry at refs being called to monitor, it can be helpful for your team someday.
In real time, its very hard to see things, there is nothing wrong in getting a better and clear look.
But then at the end, accordingly the call should be made. Every sport has that. The decision is checked and the correct one is enforced.
Craig doesnt understand VAR. When they tell the ref to go to the screen its not to "just have another look". To send the ref to the monitor the official has to see a clear and obvious error has occured. Thats why when a ref goes to the screen 99% of the time it gets overturned. Because if its not clear they dont send them to the screen. The problem is the law. Theyve over and over rewritten the hand ball law that never needed meddling at all so now its so absurd they just award pens anytime it touches the arm.
Check the Icardi offside in the Gala game 😂😂😂 they hid the replay from the fans haha
Respect the decision
Good call, Ref decision is final
I dont't see how the VAR (the ref, not the system) is blameless here. He saw everything the ref did, but didn't have the courage to make the right call sitting behind a monitor. Are the VARs being paid just to tell the refs to have a look at the monitor ?
The VAR team should not have asked the ref to go to the monitor. They threw him under the bus and he caved.
I can understand if he was advised to go to the monitor, but how can he watched the replay and still award the pk? The video should've made it even clearer to him that his initial decision was right. This looks like curruption.
This is not news it has happened so many times in EPL
Yes, when there wasn't even VAR and games were decided by one meter offside goals.
I knew football was corrupt but this is crazy, ref said no, they force him to go to the monitor and say yes, and we try to convince ourselves they don't have the refs in their pockets
More needs to be spoken about the refs bottling it, seems like most of the time when they go to the monitor they change their mind when it’s not for that, it’s just to take a closer look
Because that's how VAR is set up. The VAR officials only send them to the screen if they believe they've seen a clear and obvious eerror. So if a clear and obvious error has occurred of course the ref is always going to "change his mind".
At this point it's easy to think there is corruption involved if we are talking about the whole game itself PSG deserved something from that game cause of how they played and the chances they created but they didn't deserve that penalty cause it was not a penalty
Newcastle got screwed
Same arsenal got screwed. Karma
Couldnt have happened to a nicer bunch.
Burley was right on - it's the money. Money is corrupting the game.
VAR gives more entertainment than football itself.
You can't blame the ref when VAR didn't even show the referee the range of angles. VAR just showed them the one angle, not the other angle that clearly shows it should NOT have been a penalty. Again, VAR is at fault.
They (Uefa) admitted it was a mistake but nothing will happen. Are they gonna give us the 3 points? NO. It's like punching someone in the face and just say sorry and move on! It's a total insult!
The irony is fantastic! The double standards that you crave are off the scale!! Suck it up, accept the decision and move on! 😂
Its because we see penalties like these given all the time....that Roma fans swarmed Anthony Taylor at the airport.
Handballs are so simple, accidental or on purpose that's it
The game yesterday for man united it happened the same thing and galatasaey did get the penalty
It's certainly fair to say, "But what about the McTominay handball?!" but the truth is that that shouldn't be a penalty either; none of these stupid "handballs" should be. Newcastle got robbed on that one, and United got robbed in Europa last year by the same thing. UEFA, PGMOL, IFAB, whoever else, need to come up with consistent and clear rules about handballs. The inconsistency between refs/VAR from game to game is insane and shouldn't be tolerated at this level.
if the best ref in the world thinks thats a penalty.......imagine how low the level is
For me, it‘s not handball and no penalty because he didn’t do it on purpose, but the rules say it is habdball and a penalty. Yesterday, Bayern against Coppenhagen, same situation, same handball and the referee decided it is a penalty. But VAR overturned the decision and decided no penalty. What now? PSG got a penalty and Bayern not for the very same situation? Can anyone explains this?
Football was better without VAR I miss them early 2000
the hatred of PSG is ridiculous...
What if the same exact situation happens, the ball gets crossed in, hits mbappe in the chest then the arm and mbappe scores, should the goal stand? you would say no right, so this is the same situation inverted, in the EPL this would not be a pen, but CL calls this almost every time
i am SURE that if this happened to PSG and Newcastle got the penalty, this would not even be a discussion
You lot are unreal!! I cannot comprehend the irony of what you're saying!! Take your silly selves back 3 weeks and reverse the circumstances!! An Arsenal player smashes one of yours in the back of the head, not even a card, constant fouling on your winger and no yellow card, ball looks more out than in, shove on the back of your defender, handball, possible offside all inconclusive and subjective but you laugh at Arsenal! It's a kick in the nuts eh?? 😂
So horrible officiating is NOT just a problem in MLS as comments were made in a video earlier this week? Its across the sport that officiating is an issue from Premier League to La Liga to MLS. We need to stop using part-time officials for this sport.
We need AI to run VAR not human beings
Just get rid of VAR for the love of god 😂😂
and then madrid win 3 ucl in a row🤡

Has a referee even gone to the screen and went against the CAR crew?
One ref last season was gonna buy a Ford focus but instead got an Astra
At 97 minutes petro money reached Fifa , monitored confirmed.
Technically the call is legit - but everyone is going by EPL rules...so move TF on. KARMA to newcastle
even without the rule about hitting another part of the body before hitting the arm it still didn't fall into the category of a penalty: the distance between the ball and player wasn't enough for him to avoid it AND he was running so his arm was in a natural position.
Thats right its UEFA rules not EPL rules that is the end of discussion
I you i think there is spot on earth that isnt rigged for money ...betting odds match fixing ....
But why to leagues/teams/ players take all this rubbish changes to the law like orange card rubbish? They should just unite and revolt against changes killing football.
If anyone caught the Bayern game there was late appeal for a handball that was originally given. VAR intervened and it was chalked off. The correct call was made, but what's funny it makes you doubt UEFA even more. To reiterate it was not a pen, but you easily could make more of an argument that the Bayern pen was worse than the PSG pen and the opposite outcomes happened 🤦♂
Simple Bayern doesn't pay uefa tax 😂
What i cant understand is why once ref goes to monitor 95 percent of the times he changes his decision? Why he cant go to monitor and still have the same decision like before going?
@@VaghoPianist it leaves you concluding that it was a moment the official could take the match into their hands to determine a more favorable outcome.
I love how he is talking about this pen and the handball but he also has a picture of maradona in the background whos most infamous and iconic moment was the hand of god. I know we have VAR now but its still funny hahaha
Entire different era. Imagine Diego Maradona 86 performance in WC and fouls in today matches ?? Half of players of Argentina opponents would be watching matches in stadium in 60th minute. He recieved 53 fouls in that WC, in today rules you would get 2 dozen red cards for that. Diego did it when rules were against attackers in defender friendly era ,, and see not even a single penalty like Argentina recieved last WC would be given for those fouls. Football nowadays is almost done , according to rule a minor foul in box is penalty and you will get it if you are favourites only. Even b4 that Barca,Real all got referee favour in CL. Now it's another level to help you favourite superstars

That ref did! 1000% a penalty!! All day every day!! 😊
The 1st hand ball in the box was a penalty not the 2nd one.
Isn't it strange that the worst VAR decisions always end up benefiting Arab owned clubs ?
Maybe women should ref men’s games. Honestly might help with the abuse and some other stuff. Ref in the Bayern game was absolutely fantastic and strong.
I dont why people like PSG
Barcelona get decisions against them every single game. No one talks about it. Just because this is an english team so much is being made out of it.
That's not a penalty Ref should do better
Oh now referees should have seen things? And football is broken because Newcastle?😊 Cryyyyy
Smells a little funny doesn’t it that this is the same ref that played the final and al khelafi is vice president of uefa 🤔🤔🤔
Seriously why are you all acting so stoopid about this? It's not VAR that's the problem, it's the rule that's the issue. But if they change and say random ball to hand isn't a penalty we all know we're gonna see players run around with their hands up constantly. Maybe instead of giving a penalty for it, how about an indirect freekick? They're a 100 times more thrilling and entertaining to watch.
But this isn't a VAR issue, it's a rule issue.
This situation can be solved pretty easily how let me tell you
Once the var has been activated all the power and authority transferred from the referee to the var thus vr can cheque and make their decisions and then the referee has to obey those decisions that's what happened in cricket. The VAR was much better position to judge and make a decision without any pressure cant see the same for the referee and this all can be done without changing anything much better and consistent decisions they can take all their time they can have a book of iafb be on their side And read the rules again if necessary take all their time make the decision.
But you're all crying cause VAR gave it!! Make your mind up
One bad decision probably cost a team a chance to progress to the next round.. Pathetic

Are they going to mention the foul on Hakimi that should have been a penalty? 2 hands on Hakimi, clear tackle with no contact with the ball. Stop being so partial. You're a journalist, not a fan! Yes, that was a bad decision, but the VAR not calling the referee on the foul on Hakimi was also a bad decision. Personally, I think the VAR realized he should have called the referee on the Hakimi foul and tried to correct his error. The problem is all those gray lines making the game difficult to referee. If a player gets taken down by pulling or pushing or there is forceful contact without touching the ball, it's a foul. The referees have been instructed to allow too many gray lines and are not sure what to do anymore. When a call benefits the team they like, they say it's a good call, and when it doesn't, they scream about it to the roof tops.
PSG ruined football 😤😤😤
