- When Borussia Dortmund won the Champions League 25 years ago, Paul Lambert was one of our heroes. The Scot instantly won the hearts of the Black & Yellow fans, and even though he was only at the club for a year and a half, he still loves BVB and regularly comes back to Dortmund. On his most recent visit, he spoke to BVB TV to give us a few exciting insights into his amazing career.

Burrussia Dortmund wanted him to stay, but it was not possible.
Ein absoluter Topspieler unserer Vereinshistorie! Leider war er viel zu kurz bei uns und ist deswegen nicht mehr allzu vielen Spielern ein Begriff im Zusammenhang mit dem BVB, von seiner Wichtigkeit ganz zu schweigen. Nicht nur wegen des Finalspiels. Er war einer der Garanten für den Erfolg Mitte der 90er allgemein und auch für die Identifikation mit der Mannschaft zu jener Zeit. Spieler wie ihn gab es seitdem nicht mehr allzu oft... und im aktuellen Kader sehe ich auch niemanden, der die einfache, solide Arbeit so verkörpert wie er damals. Jude und Emre hätten das Potenzial noch am ehesten, aber Jude wird oft schon zu offensiv dafür eingesetzt und Emre versucht von sich aus leider auch zu oft, schön zu spielen.

Dortmunds loss was my team Celtic's gain, he was a key player in the best side we've had since the turn of the century.

Auch wenn ich damals noch ein kleiner Bub war .. hatte ich ein Trikot von ihm. Mein Opa fand ihn klasse und so bekam ich dann ein Trikot von ihm und ich wurde dann auch zum Lambert Fan. Auch später hatte man sich immer wieder getroffen, so war er Jahrelang Trainer bei meiner 2. Fussballliebe Ipswich Town. Er war einer dieser TYPEN den du eigentlich unbedingt in deinem Team haben willst.

He won the treble for Celtic, knocked teams like Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona out of Europe and was the captain when Celtic reached the 2003 UEFA Cup Final. He had plenty of moments of glory during his career at Celtic.
