Bowser Castle 2 is without a doubt the best troll course of all time. Having a pointless dead end and no turns is extremely funny and I hope it comes back for the last DLC wave.
It won't be in the dlc and if they bring it back they are probably going to make it a shroom cut

Completely agree. I think Super Mario Kart is textbook first game syndrome but this is easily one of the most important Nintendo games of all time
It's the equivalent of Super Mario Bros
Plus, It came out on the SNES it's the foundation for Mario Kart. The games for the most part would improve on the original. he should at least give it credit that they didn't make one on the NES because that would have been awful.

Finally, the best Mario Kart game prior to Mario kart 64. It's definitely the weakest in the series, but you can't deny how innovative it was at the time, and impact it had by kicking off this amazing kart racer series.

For me, I do agree the tracks are mind numming from a first glance. But with each having track design that’s rebuildable, plus just generally being cool, I think the game is actually pretty good :)

Schaff actually liking Bowser’s Castle 3 is pretty cool, seeing as it got finally got to be a Retro course in Booster Pass 6 and is probably one of the best that the Pass has to offer.
Good thing Nintendo Chose Bowser Castle 3 as the Penultimate course and not Bowser Castle 2.

Actually, Ghost Valley 3 does have a feather shortcut! Its right before the first big u-turn and is pretty satisfying to land. You can see it because it's a little piece of boardwalk sticking out.

I love Schaff moving where the Ad usually goes just to put off having to think more about Donut Plains.
Super Mario Kart, a prime example of first game syndrome. There are a couple good courses, but there's a LOT of jank that later games would fix. That said, I can't hate it due to how influential it is, and I can occasionally laugh with the game's jank instead of at it. Also, shout-outs to Mario Circut 2 and Rainbow for actually holding up pretty well for 30 year old tracks.
I like how in the other rankings the sounds before the tracks usually are something related to it, but in here it's just random cartoon sounds

The complete and utter lack of intro and how Schaff jumps straight into the point because he's done with this game is hilarious to me. I don't really care about Mario Kart, I haven't even played it in my entire life, but this video was fun all the way through.

I'm gonna be the weird one to say that I actually enjoy Super Mario Kart and while I can somewhat agree with the "janky controls" after playing the game for a while, you start to grasp on the capabilities of your movement. It's best to throw your expectations for how Mario Kart plays out the window for Super if you want to give this entry a fair shake. Anyways shoutouts to the competitive scene for this game they're insane.
I agree. When you actually get to learn the tracks and know where to apply the power slides, the game actually feels great to play. It's just radically different to modern Mario Kart (even moreso than MK64) so that's why newcomers just don't bother.

I REALLY wish people that reviewed this game would first spend a week or 2 playing the far more limited console racing games that preceded it. Then they could get a idea of why those of us who played it when it first came out loved it so much

@@DrStuff142 I disagree about the controls, but yes, F-Zero was the Mode 7 racing predecessor, and while insanely popular, all of us that played it wished for a version with more varied environments, weapons, and ability to go off road. Mario Kart granted our wish
I actually disagree with this philosophy. I would argue that the original Mario bros, for example, is a TERRIBLE game, but back then it was legendary. Now we have better, so you shouldn’t be caught up with how good it was back then, and focus on retrospect
That 8 Deluxe ranking is gonna feel like a national event when the time comes, I swear.
Contrary to popular opinion, I love it when snes tracks are brought back. It’s nice to have some of the OG courses in games that play far better so that I can actually enjoy them.

As much as this game aged poorly, you cannot deny its music is great. Soyo Oka gave it her all to make an amazingly charming soundtrack that came a long way.
as for my favorites: Mario Circuit Battle Mode, Rainbow Road, and as shit as the course is, Vanilla Lake as my personal favorite.
I’ve had koopa beach stuck in my head for the past two months since I decided to try the game. Plus, almost every snes track has a final lap remix in tour that sound amazing. I fully reccomend you go check them out ^^

I thought he was gonna talk about how he put this one off but now the inevitable has come to haunt or something about it being very obvious this is the first Mario Kart. Yeah sure it comes after the F tiers but before that? Just "let's get this over with" really shows that this is a formality in order to get all the Mario Karts done rather than something he actually wanted to do. o7 to ya Schaff. You finally made it through.
It's astounding that this game gets 8-9 scores still. Not referring to the reviews in 1991, but ones that came out decades later. It's like they didn't replay the game and just judged off "oh this is the game that started the series so it must be great by default"

Honestly Vanilla Lake 2 is probably my biggest guilty pleasure course in the entire series. I acknowledge that it's not good, not by a long shot, but I always have fun playing on it for some reason and genuinely want to see it return as the obligatory SNES course in the next Mario Kart game.

Your mention of the controls being difficult are why I've come to find playing SMK so satisfying. Once you get the hang of the controls, you can flex your mastery with ease on all the courses including the vanilla lakes.
And watching people's time trials of rainbow road is amazing.
Lastly, good on you for making an honest effort with ranking the courses knowing how old this game is.
Ghost Valley 3 and Broken Pier are literally made for eachother. Unlike the other Ghost Valleys, they share the exact same background in Super Circuit plus they haven’t been acknowledged since (not even in Tour) so I’ll ship them out of spite.
