Too bad they nerfed the bombs tho, hitting the cars is somehow worse than driving head first into a bomb.
He’s gonna be so happy, and you bet your bottom dollar I was :)
One of my most wanted tracks, so I’m thrilled about this unexpected inclusion :D
Honestly might be the best redone version of a Wii course with the competition being Grumble Volcano and Mushroom Gorge.
@@pretzelgod8972 If you somehow manage to hit the cars tho, because they go just as slow as they do on Shroom Ridge or Turnpike
Coconut mall was just incredible to me as a kid. Going up the sides of the escalators, taking a detour through all the shops, the fountain, the cars that would have your Mii’s driving them. Absolutely a top tier course
I mean
they kind of ruined this track in the 8 deluxe version.
Absolutely! Coconut Mall was legitimately my favorite course - I spent hours as a kid just racing it. Finding the secrets was great too. I _lost my mind_ the first time I realized I could go through the shops. 10/10 course with great music.
That map felt so much more ALIVE than every other one
SCHAFRILLAS TALK ABOUT SAUSAGE PARTY.
And then it was made HORRIBLE by Deluxe’s “remaster”, removing the stairs from the escalators, removing Miis from being in the cars, AND MAKING THE GRAPHICS AND OVERALL FEEL WAY WAY WORSE!
The Wii version will remain the best version forever.
Mario Kart Wii despite all of its flaws is probably the most enjoyable and iconic game out of the entire frachise due to just how memorable and top tier a vast majority these tracks and their music are.
Seriously, strong selection of OG courses and Retro Tracks, and all further mario kart games hugely benefit their retro cups from having so many Wii tracks

I honestly find grumble volcano extremely underrated, its probably my favourite course in the game. So even just seeing it in B tier makes me very happy
It was a great choice to bring back for 8
I'd have placed it in S tier if not for just the rock hop.
@@pickledcow_yt Rock hop makes it better IMO but it should be a bit nerfed in the future Mario kart games like cutting off a smaller portion.
@@justn1n I agree rock hop makes it fun. And that shortcut is nothing compared to the lap skip that used to be doable online.
Exactly. It's super tense but that's the appeal.
I'm glad that the courses music from Mario Kart Wii got the love and recognition it deserves. I'd say my personal favorite is DK Summit. The swing with the melody and the laid-out notes after so feels satisfying. It's catchy and makes you almost bounce as the notes do. Everything about it just screams nostalgia to me.
All my homies love DK Summit
Ikr. I used this type of music to help me study and it gets me pumped up on doing so. Seriously, how the heck does Nintendo even do it? They have the best music ever when it comes to their games.

I hate Maro kart Wii i just realized it was harder compared to Mario kart 8 because of the cup, they're so hard like it's hard to get 3 stars i keep getting E rank like i keep hitting walls and go off roads

Mushroom Gorge has always been and will always be my favorite course of all time.
The environment and difficulty changes throughout the course to keep it interesting and the music is friggin perfection.
Also, being a 4-8 year old with little to no motor skills, I always felt so accomplished when I finished the mushroom portion without lakitu pulling me out of the gorge at least 10 times.
(Honestly I feel like lakitu would get called out to a job, notice my baby peach main, and be like "not that friggin kid who drives into walls")

Maple Treeway has always been the GOAT to me - the autumn theming, the colours, the Wigglers, the half pipes, the cannon, it just feels like such a fun adventure! I've always loved Maple Treeway. Good length and complexity. Good challenges in the form of the twisting start, the huge caterpillars after winding up the branch, and the final net bridge can catch you off guard if you're not paying attention. And the design is so indicative of a crisp autumn day. It's such a treat, visually speaking.

Mario Kart DS and Wii were a huge part of my childhood. I’m excited to see what you thought!
Edit: Coconut Mall ranking as high as it did gives me SO much joy! It was my all-time favorite track to run as a kid.
The jailed Thwomp always confused me too. Given that Bowser’s a villain, maybe that Thwomp tried to turn good and Bowser locked him up for turning traitor?
the thwomp still looks pretty evil so i'd like to imagine he discovered a new low even bowser wouldn't bite into
That's pretty much accurate, before MK64 the only other game to feature the 3D thwomps specificly the blue ones was Super Mario 64 in which the thwomps appeared 3 times, twice in whomp's fortress and once at the very top of tick tock clock. The theory goes that the thwomp at the top of the clock litterally helped Mario obtain a power star so that betrayal to Bowser was enough to throw him in jail.

e: as someone whose first Mario Kart was DS, getting hyped up for what DS retro courses might be coming back in Wii and then having two of them be Desert Hills and Yoshi Falls was so dispiriting.
The "SHOWTIME" billboard from Bowser's Castle Wii may be a reference to how Bowser says "Showtimeeeee" before every battle in Bowser's Inside Story. (His battle theme in that game is named Showtime too)
But Mario Kart Wii came out before Inside Story...
I don't know why but I got so excited when maple treeway was number 2. Everything from the music to the aesthetic to the course design just gives me this warm fuzzy feeling and I can't get enough of it. Loved this video
it took me until last night to realize that koopa troopa's shell changes depending what team you're on.
Coconut mall is mad dad’s favorite course and he loves watching your videos with me, so it was a fun surprise to see it ranked as number one :)
Mario Kart Wii was my first Mario Kart and I played it right up until they took the Worldwide Vs. servers down in 2014. I was regularly the only American in queue, and toward the end often it was just me, playing as Baby Daisy, and 11 Funky Kongs from South Korea. Getting to hear someone else talk about this game with so much passion was fantastic. An excellent and well-argued ranking, A++, and now I'm itching to play Maple Treeway again!
the 11 Funky Kongs in the queue was my regular MK Wii online experience. I always picked toad or toadette
Ew baby daisy
Toad's Factory has always held a special place in my heart. From the exciting, varied, and fun course, to what I consider to be the best song in all of mario kart.
Edit: Also, I couldn't disagree more on the N64 Bowser's Castle track. I played it with my sister the other day, and both of us had completely forgotten about it, probably due to being very boring in our opinions.
Toad's Factory is my favorite track, too. I need to hear its song rearranged by the people who do 8's music. It'd be glorious.
Watching this was a nostalgia trip. Makes me sad that the old Wii I played on as a kid broke and stopped reading disks properly. I'd love to play on these old wii-exclusive racing tracks again. (Rainbow road was my absolute favorite despite it's difficulty, would play on that track over and over and over again for hours if I was given the chance, I couldn't care less that I was plummeting to earth a gazillion times lol)
You could try finding someone to repair it for you, my guess is that the laser simply stopped working and that is not hard to fix :)
@@sweetcoco8064 Possibly. I have no idea where that old Wii ended up though, it was for the entire family and it broke when I was a kid. I have no idea what my parents did with it after it broke. I recall the family keeping the games for a while so we could keep playing them on the Wii U, but I think the Wii U also broke eventually and I don’t know what happened to that one either.
It’s weird going back to this video and hearing Schaff namedrop Luigi’s Mansion instead of Boston Building
Yeah why did he give it the wrong name in this video
We should all comment zoo wee mama on this video-
What most people don’t know about why certain tracks are put in certain cups is that it’s based on which cups they came from in their debut games. For example, if a track came from Star Cup or Special Cup, most times it would end up being in the Leaf Cup or Lightning Cup. That’s not always the case however, seeing that SNES Mario Circuit 3 was from its debut game’s Flower Cup.
I think it's funny that the Banana Cup in Mario Kart 8 - the Flower Cup equivalent - doesn't have a single Flower Cup course, but has 2 Special Cup tracks.
Coconut Mall was my absolute favourite as a child, to the point where me and my sister would roleplay shopping on the track XD
It's still my favourite to this day, the visuals, the inspired idea, the Miis, the elements such as the cars and escalators, they're all tied together with the hectic music, it's chaotic fun to the max.
Rainbow Road (the DEFINITIVE Rainbow Road), Maple Treeway, Koopa Cape (I'm in love with the music that plays when you're underwater) and Moonview Highway are the runners up for me.
Too bad that they ruined it in Mario Kart 8 deluxe
@@emoji3266 I disagree tbh, yeah it's not quite the same essence but it's still an instant classic.

My favourite detail about Wii Bowsers Castle is its theme. It is Maple Treeway (which is awesome already), but in darker and slower, I love it!
This has so many dark implications, which I never expected Mario Kart to do
I like how it's implied that Bowser built his castle over Maple Treeway, the ground outside the castle even looks similar
@@ballisticboo7808 bowser's castle has now climbed up my personal ranking of mkwii tracks. Also there are burnt up trees outside the front of his castle which even further implies this was built on top of or at least near maple treeway.
Really solid list, honestly. The fact that all five of your “S Tiers” might be in the Booster Course Pass is actually pretty cool.
Might? Maple Treeway and Coconut Mall are already in the Booster Course Pass. Koopa Cape and DK Summit are in Tour so it's almost a guarantee we'll get them in the next waves. Wii Rainbow Road, we'll have to wait and see.
@@Sceptonic Funnily enough, Tour is set to seemingly get another 5 Wii courses (though Grumble Volcano was in the base game of 8 and could've been scrapped, as the only files tied to it were test ones), and the tracks you mentioned are still going to be the courses we get if datamines and leaks are any indication. DK Summit and Koopa Cape were found in a banner datamined in Wave 1, and the person who's been accurately leaking future waves (including the changes in Wave 3 from the music prefetch leak) has gone on record as saying the remaining track is Wii Rainbow Road. There are also a few objects in Tour's files that are speculated to be for Wii Rainbow Road. It is a shame that 8 Deluxe is going to miss out on the other Wii tracks planned - Dry Dry Ruins was datamined, and the way the game orders its internal course IDs signals that Daisy Circuit is coming, and another Wii track is planned (my money is on Moonview Highway, as it wouldn't require any unique course objects not in Tour's files, whereas Wii Moo Moo Meadows would need the Moo Moos, and Wii Mario Circuit is lame lol - those are the only tracks that can fit the slot because it's sandwiched between Maple Treeway and Mushroom Gorge, incidentally). All those tracks are good

Wish granted!
In his MK8D ranking, he ranked the BCP version of Daisy Circuit as the worst Wii course.

Coconut Mall will ALWAYS be a classic along side Koopa Cape. Just two banger courses that have such creativity and amazing music.
To give Shy Guy Beach _some_ credit, you can actually reduce your airtime drastically by hopping into the ramp instead of jump going off of it normally. Airtime in this game slows you down, so it's very beneficial if you can land a good ramp hop.

*31:33** YOU JUST GOT COCONUT MALLED!!!!!!!*
Squarespace is my favorite track.
It's a VERY valid list
oh great another Mario c i r c u i t
Thank God you did this, so I won't have to hear that God awful Coconut Mall music and view it.

27:53 LETS GO!!!!!
The fact that Yoshi Falls (I think) was the first Mario Kart Wii retro track revealed at E3 2007 was embarrassing.
You wonder why E3 is dead
Busting these videos out at a ridiculous rate, I just finished the Disney rankings lmfao. Great work :)
Edit: Schaff having to ask what the Thwomp did to be locked up just reminds me of all the Marty rumors from MK64 lmfao
Agreed
I'd love to see you do 7 next. Such a brilliant, brilliant selection of returning courses that somehow (criminally) did not make it into wii, as well as brand-new favourites.
Good luck making a definitive number one when you have Music Park, Wario Shipyard, Pirahna Plant Slide, Maka Wuhu, Waluigi Pinball, Rainbow Road, and Airship Fortress to contend with!
MK7 honestly has my favorite track selection in the series.
@@joeyjerry1586 I'm not very familiar with the full course selection of anything before wii, so from what I've seen I can only agree with you.
I agree, 7 does have a really good selection of tracks. It also has my third favorite rainbow road, behind Wii and 64.
@@JHawk-nw3ui, wait a minute, you prefer MK64’s rainbow road over MK7? That’s quite the hot take there
@@joeyjerry1586 I meant that 64 has my favorite theme, I said the wrong thing. 7 is higher than 64.
Can't beat Rainbow Road for me. A challenging course but an absolute blast once you've mastered it, great music, the tie-in the Super Mario Galaxy is a fantastic touch, and possibly the most legendary Ultra Shortcut in MarioKart history
23:57 this aged well
I grew up with Mario Kart DS, and I will always vibe to Waluigi Pinball. It’s colorful, the pinball dynamic is dodgy but fun, and it has the catchiest music next to Coconut Mall.
So glad he did a mini ranking of battle mode maps. Funky stadium was my childhood from 6-10
“There hasn’t been another yoshi track in this series”
Well …
that didn’t age well.
Are you referring to Tony Soprano’s Island? It’s a Tony Soprano track but they made it look like a Yoshi track, so weird
uhm actually thats tony soprano's island, it just looks yoshi themed due to yoshi'a appearance in the sopranos
@@thetreyceratops2242 oh lol thx dude
3:37 uh oh
I had a feeling Coconut Mall would be #1, and honestly, why wouldn't it be? Driving through a shopping mall is such an insane concept for an already insane game series, and it did Not disappoint. Everything about it from the mall's layout, mii drivers, and ESPECIALLY the Music is all Top Tier Game Design. 🏆
Schaff coming with the absolute HEAT this Christmas
my family never really had enough money to afford video games, so when we got gifted an old box tv and a wii with a couple dvds one year it was everything to my sister and i. mario kart wii was one of those games and i’ll always think of it as my favourite because of that, even though i was really bad at it. i remember as a kid i called DK summit “the ice cream one” because i thought the pink and white snow was ice cream, such a weird yet fond memory.
DK Summit is in the DLC. It aged amazingly
As someone who played funky kong/jetsetter, coconut mall was a nightmare, i still have nightmares of getting hit with stuff as the escalators change directions, because you physically couldn’t make it up the stairs afterwards. You had to turn around, go back down and then up the other side.
Still one of my favorite games of all time. So much nostalgia with this one.
Want a normal reply? xD
I completely agree! Not to mention the fact that the modding community for this game is literally the best thing any fandom has done for their game. Wiimfi and CTGP alone solo anything Nintendo did with the game, and a lot of custom tracks these days play and look better than the original game.
27:53 Don't worry, it didn't. Also I grew with this Mario Kart game more than any others in the series, so it's nice to hear your thoughts on the tracks.

My personal favorite was the square space ad
Mario Kart: Double Dash is my absolute favorite entry in the series. I think a lot of it had to do with me teaming up with a friend of mine on it. Being able to ride shotgun was excellent, and the unique character powers really helped it too.
And also......
Hi I'm Daisy!!!!
I have never played Double Dash, but I genuinely wish I could. Double Dash courses have some of the most endearing and outstanding visual designs across all Mario Kart games. They're incredibly vibrant, feature trees and other objects with eyes (killer concept), and just feel so distinct from the other instalments.
Literally one month later Nintendo announces a brand new yoshi corse lol.
I found it too be funny, and they even made it based on Yoshi's Island
And the return of DK Summit
I'm so glad MK8D's booster course pack kept Wii Rainbow Road's fiery plumet to Earth after you fall off the course before Lakitu picks you back up. They absolutely didn't have to add that, but it makes one of the best courses in the booster pack even better.
Nostalgia
