Before Nike started to get into the football market, not only Adidas was prominent, also Puma, Diadora and Umbro. Umbro was still sponsoring really big nations like Enlgand. BUT, from what I observed during the matches (I watched almost every match), Puma jerseys seemed to have some sort of design flaw or material quailty issues affecting their ventilation. I noticed players in Puma shirts look really sweaty. Yes, I know Qatar is hot but Nike or Adidas players looked much cooler. Check Swiss team matches and you'll quickly notice what I mean... good analysis, I follow both brands but Adidas has sold out argentinian t shirt around the world before final. And there are millions waiting for the three stars. This t shirt has been one of the most sold in history, surpassing by far any nba t shirt owned by nike, or even real madrid t shirt. Only brasilian t shirt could be close to argentina.
I think they have difrent bussines models, Adidas prefer less countries but huge sales. Look, Argentina (and a lot of countries in asia and middle east), Mexico, Germany, Spain are soccer friendly countries, and buy thousands of t shirts year after year, not only by world cup. And yes I’m from Argentina :)
