As someone who has been around anime their entire lives but was introduced to hentai in their teens I will make the argument that hentai should not be compared to regular porn. The anime art style isn’t a depiction of a real human being it’s a depiction of an idealized, stylized human beings that some find more attractive. Since they’re not real and often drawn to be suggestive, they’re much easier to objectively and distort to your own personal tastes. Hentai devolves into intimately nuanced kinks that preside at the psychological level beyond simple sexual gratification, it’s more stimulating and addicting than regular porn because it’s not real and can be tinted to your own desires.
I agree with you, besides, almost everyone does things that fucks them up in the long term. But you know, moderation is key, they say.
Also some people just aren't affected by hentai on a psychological level like me but ntr broo that is probably the thing that out of all fantasy made me really see how it can affect those who easily succumbed to hentai and let it affect their lives

I mean I'm a H artist, so I tend to look at doujins in a colder way than the average viewer (lots of great art to study from in NTR mangas, well even weirder ones like guro lmao). I think things in life are about balance, people get addicted to a lot of things, of course some things are more addicting than others (like hentai), but the principle of balance still remains, as long as it doesn't affect your life in a negative manner it is alright, but some people really have trouble controling their own bodies I get it. That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Humanity has literally told stories to impact "real life" since before recorded history. Cultural myths and founding legends, Greek theater, cautionary tales--these have existed not just for entertainment but to teach and to inspire. To, y'know, impact "real life".
It's not really accurate to say that nobody is making the argument that lolicon content is the same as child abuse, because there is a pretty vocal segment of the woke hate mobs making that very argument. That said, those same people often turn out to be hypocrites and in many cases will get so hyperbolic with it that they'll start going off over non-sexualized images.
I disagree with the sentiment that these things need to be regulated. I am wholeheartedly against government intervention, because once the government gets their foot in the door on things like this they never stop. How many people are willing to give up their action movies and violent video games? It doesn't matter if you or I see them as the same thing, because by enabling the regulatory body to regulate hentai in the name of public decency, they then have the power to regulate anything in the name of public decency. We've already seen a lot of this these past few years with people getting banned on social media in the name of squashing "misinformation", but as it turns out this was being done corruptly. My point is: You cannot regulate morality to this extent. In order for society to function you need laws in place to punish those that bring harm to others, but when it comes to people doing harm to themselves the government needs to stay out of it. The best thing you can do is give people the ability to make informed decisions and hope they'll be responsible with it, and give support to those that have faltered and want help. To do otherwise is to eliminate the free society.

I know this is kinda controversial, but this sorta stuff varies from person to person. I'm glad you're treating yourself better and I hope you manage to recover from it, no form of addiction is good for your body or for your motivation. With that said, I just wanted to say that, sometimes, there are people who simply draw hentai because they enjoy it lol, like, it is a source of inspiration for some people. I myself am a hentai artist, when I look at other people's work I don't usually see it in the way most people here describe it, I just like seeing good art of human bodies, and hentai is usually a really fun way to put those ideas out. Of course some authors opt for darker themes, other for lighter themes. It's just a lot of people demonize artists as if their goal is something evil or like we're trying to make people addicted. When I'm drawing stuff I'm doing it for myself, because I enjoy it, it's like making a game, if someone ends up getting addicted to it that's bad but you as the creator are not exactly to blame. In any case, I even tend to encourage people who have this sort of addiction to seek help for it (however counter-productive it may sound, since my clients are usually horny people lol), overall I just think I'm built weird, and among the other artists I've spoken to, they're also just "built weird".

A big thing that helped me overcome my problems was to have a few set phrases that I could repeat to myself whenever I had an urge. Things like, "remember what it made you", "porn offers you nothing", "do I really want to be doing this in 20 years", "how much time have I already wasted" etc. I have found it is much easier to overcome when you can convince yourself wholly that it is bad for you every time you have an urge. And yes, the way the addiction works in my experience you WILL have to keep reminding yourself repeatedly. It pulled me down to the lowest I have ever been and I want people to know that no matter how deep into this pit you have fallen, you can come back from it. I sometimes question whether or not there is forgiveness from the kind of degeneracy I fell into in my private life, and I strive everyday to prove to myself that there is. For anyone out there that is on the fence, I offer you this encouragement: You have NOTHING to lose, if you quit and find out that you loved your porn life, then you can always go back. However, if you don't try quitting and its whats best for you, you will never know.
I think the biggest concern is people living in there imaginations, anything is fine in moderation. But for manga/anime especially slice of life where its "similar" to reality, its important to recognise that even though its meant to be related to life, a lot of it isn't real, the classroom is always spotless, the characters usually have the time and money to do what they want even tho its often never mentioned, fate always makes it so the characters thoughts Aline within the plot and each other, often in non-realistic unlikely ways since that makes it interesting, the expressions and emotions are more emphasised and often characters due to the art style are almost always made beautiful even if there meant to be outcasts or not attractive, even the environment itself has perfect symmetry and is visually pleasing, so I can see why people retreat from reality when it hits them in the face a few to many times.

I'm glad to say that I've stopped looking at porn and hentai. Back in 2020-2022 I did. I would sit in my room for a long time. At first it felt great, but at the end I was done watching, I felt terrible. The same feeling when you're bored, I guess? Lazy? Tired? Braindead? The feeling you get when you're in a waiting room. Can't think of anything, can't do anything. Like my mind just escaped my head. This is what made me want to change. I felt unproductive and trapped, like I wasn't my own person, someone had overtaken me and made choices for me. By the end of 2022, I felt like it was about time to do something useful. Go outside and touch grass, as they say. My new years resolution was to take care of my mind and body more. So I have. I do a little exercising, nothing too serious, but still something. I'm slowly rationing my time on the Internet and focusing more on academics. Gotta say, I feel happier, stronger, and more confident in myself. That's why I encourage you all to quit your addictions. You'll feel so much better. You can change.

Starting my very clumsy journey of limiting the internet.
What sucks for some people is that what you can do in real life is very limited compared to the vastness of the Internet.
I can't go outside, take a walk to a store or walk across a busy street anymore. Instead, I am stuck in a high and isolated place, where the nearest town is six hours away, and.... it has no guarantee that I'd be able to come back in the same manner by walking. Would rather not get lost.
So... doing something else in my house seems like one of the only options that I can do at this point.

Finally found happiness in watching porn without fapping while thinking about wholesome visions of experiencing that until they did the deed, the happy and cheerful violin music stop abruptly as the actress dress in such a scandalous way, the scene felt so unsettling as if I'm the one being cuckolded, and I felt the feeling of emptiness while I reflect on my standing as a person.

I really appreciate that you didn't demonize the concept of anime at the beginning of this video. I've always enjoyed anime and have aspirations of using the medium to tell my own stories in the future, and it's nice to know that there is a firm divide between the medium of delivery and the content being delivered. It's just unfortunate it's reputation nowadays, because it feels like a lot of anime shows are needlessly sexualised for little to no reason.
Its quite scary to see how me vs my classmates developed. I got online later then them, and the earlier they got online is visible very heavily in their morality of the world. We both would've seen much of the same content to start with, the difference being they had much longer to get pulled into bad things. I think just about anybody can be dragged that low with how much many things are attempting to pull you from morality. I remember being and school and saw a friend get an ad which was by most reasonable standard would be very borderline if not explicit material outright and thinking it was a targeted ad. Then I remembered our school accounts can't get targeted ads because google allows the USD (Unified School District) accounts to be barred from this. The general advertising and mainstream attention explicit material gets is too much, and anybody can be pulled in.
I got online at the same time as most people but stayed away from this degenerative content. I never understood why people like it until about late puberty and now I understand. I’ve never watched intentional porn in my life (some shows have hade nude scenes) and I’ve never gone too deep to pull myself out.

It’s because pornography is against christian moral norms, and he believe that masturbation is contributing factor to decreasing birth rates. He also takes into consideration how this chips away at your christian faith and interrupts a personal relationship with God. Not everyone has the same experience as you. I also used to watch hentai and it affected me. I got addicted to it and it was making my life fall off the tracks. I would always think about it and I would never let go of it in my mind. It made it hard for me to concentrate on my day to day activities. I couldn't study properly, I couldn't spend time with my friends. I always watch it secretly and I just couldn't concentrate on what's going on around me and forget about my main priority. It's why it's unhealthy for a person. Now, you're not letting your day to day activities get affected by those things and that's a good thing. But you can't deny that pornography, whether it's in the form of hentai or any other style, can be very addicting and many people have gone through similar experiences like I did to the point people aren't able to properly focus on their life and waste their time and that's a bad thing. The human mind is complex and everyone will react to these things differently, there are people who were exposed to these things but they will forget about it and move on and then there are those who are going through similar experiences like me and they're the ones who need to stop watching it and focus more on their life.

That personally,it hasn't affected me, but the way he makes it sound is that hentai/pornography effects almost every single one so therefore it must completely be taken out and banned completely. Which personally, I don't feel is the right thing to do. There's other things that have a much bigger and broader impact on people than hentai/pornography and they're not bad. By the logic of the video, why should smoking and drinking not be outlawed completely? both have a bad effects on people's live and smoking isn't just the smoker themselves,but the people around them being directly effected by it too. You could go as far as to say sex(without the goal of reproduction) and masturbation should be outlawed too because both can be addicting and are self destructive if you get addicted to it.
All of these are destructive, some more than others, and yet they're not outlawed or anything. Because they're done in moderation. (Sure smoking and drinking, even in low and careful amounts is harmful) but the way he words and makes the video out to be is hentai/porn in its entirety is bad. when that's not the case, if you use it in moderation, then its helpful.
A better title and goal to work towards would be how hentai /addiction/ is destructive and how one can better moderate their intake of it ,or how to stop (stop not because its bad, but because your /addiction/ to it is bad)
He also uses a statistic about asian/japanese men I believe? (haven't watched the video in a few days so im not 100% sure but I think the statistic was aimed at specifically japanese men) to try to represent how hentai/porn is destructive to their life or how they regress from the real world to their imaginary world. I feel that's biased and he did not explain enough into why that statistic is. its not /only/ because of hentai. Hentai nearly ruined my life. I was exposed to this when I was around 13, no one my age should've seen such explicit and disgusting content. I pretty much became a neckbeard. Then I had enough, I considered suicide. I was thankfully talked out of it by my father and I started reconsidering my life. Things started getting better slowly but I was still a loser, I was overweight and I had to join a new school (YES, I HAD TO JOIN AN ENTIRE NEW SCHOOL, THIS IS HOW BAD THIS SITUATION HAD DAMAGED ME). Then in late 2022 I found out about NoFap, and the idea of self improvement itself. I started watching all these motivational videos and I realized how much of my life I had wasted. I promised myself that I would never go back to this lifestyle and I began to change my life for the better. Now I am doing much better, but I am still disgusted by people who defend porn of any kind after what it's done to me. A large part of the struggle is the fact that most people do not address it. It's viewed as acceptable and normal to do this kind of stuff, and there's therefore very little help to get. You'll usually get the "everything in moderation" argument, which is an incredibly poor motivator to overcome an actual addiction. That's why I don't hide what I was, even if I may want to. It's not rare for me to get other guys asking me whether or not it's really true that I live without ever masturbating. Many of them simply can't believe it; they can't even imagine it.
I still, to this day, carry the consequences of this addiction. I don't read most manga, or watch most anime, because even the slightest fan-service on the wrong day can send me down a spiral, so I just stopped. The same goes for a lot of other media. My sexual preferences are so out of wack that it will likely take yet another miracle for me to ever be able to live a normal sex life, and even my occasional wet dreams usually depict acts only possible in hentai.
Still, quitting was the best thing I ever did, second only to my first communion. It's better to be a wounded freeman, than a healthy slave brothers and sisters. Trust me on this one. Become free to pursue the best version of yourself, the version that God envisioned when He created you.

porn, for me is a form of escapism. a way to distract myself from the looming self hatred and anxiety that follows me in everyday life.
i know i have a really difficult time with social interactions and have very little faith in my own self worth. depression is something thats been following me for a long time and so instead of confronting those beasts directly i've tried time and again to hide from them using escapeism. video games, anime, many hours of youtube, fanfiction occasionally, and of course porn and hentai comics. i mean i cant really muster up the confidence to properly talk much less flirt with a girl for less then a few seconds, and all my conversations result in dead ends. so the likelyhood of me getting into a relationship is slim to none.
i get why porn is bad for you. it changes your perception of the opposite sex. it desensitizes you to future sexual interactions (as if im ever going to have one anyway), it can cause you to have chronic masturbation addiction etc. all of these are a problem that affect you in the real world. but my low esteem and antisocialness is a problem too. i am constantly mulling over my mistakes and always being too harsh on myself.. i dont WANT to confront thoses feelings, im SCARED to. and if porn is a way to distract me from feeling like an utter piece of shit, then i guess ill take it..

Here's my advice if you want. Take what you need.
It seems though that you already know why you're using those forms of escapism which is a really great start and the first step. Second step is to face your mind. Stop being super harsh on yourself and beating yourself up for every little thing you do. Especially for social interactions and literally everything in general. You're a literal human being who's learning how to be social. Learn self-compassion and be with yourself on it. This means you really have to be aware of any negative self-depricating self-hating thought you have and turn it into the opposite of that thought. There must be absolutely no self-depricating/self-hating thoughts. To tackle low self-worth you really have to start valuing yourself like you'd value your best friend or your lover, or your child because eventually you will face those versions of yourself in the past and have to have compassion for every version of yourself.
Point blank is to face your mind, develop self-compassion, value yourself, and take care of yourself.
Also a short note on self-acceptance. Literally accept your awkward self because thats you that's the true you. You will develop confidence with time.

You aren't that person anymore because you have learned/are trying to learn from your mistakes. You must let go of the past.

I've been struggling mightily with this issue for years now. It's extremely difficult for me to avoid being sucked back into the hole at least once a week, though I always go back to Confession when I do. Sometimes it's as few as three days. However, a little while ago I found a video from a Catholic CZcamsr who recommended praying all four Mysteries of the Rosary daily as an aid against lust. I've been doing that and now I've been clean for somewhere between a week and a half and two weeks (I wasn't counting exactly). So far it's been an immense help to me in avoiding this temptation, though I still need to be careful and make sure I stay away from sources of temptation.
Counting the days I find is not beneficial. Seems to make you think when you reach certain number that you've "earned" giving in.

@brainburger I was at the same stage as you. To me, failure is still progress. I used to fail everyday, and then slowly get to a streak of 1 day, then fail. Try again, 1 day, fail again. Then 2 days, fail, repeat, 3 days, and so on. I'd slowly gain resistance of sorts to it, get more endurance against the urges. It took me a month of failure to start getting a clean week. I still failed that, but now instead of being able to hold it for 1 day, now I can easily hold it to 7.
Also, a very important thing to note is when you fail, try to pinpoint what made you go down that path. I have deleted so many things because they'd get me down and make me fail. A videogame I have that has certain elements that get me? Welp, its gone now. A video I really goddamn love? Not anymore. A server that has a lot of my friends? Quit it. Slowly but surely, try to get rid of anything unnecessary that can ruin your streak.
Like any recovery from addiction, masturbation addiction requires time, commitment, and a strong will, and I KNOW that you've got what it takes. The fact that you've decided to quit on it is proof. Jesus saved me from porn. I was around 12 when I discovered it, and my morals dissolved the more I watched it. I have OCD and have always loved Jesus, so the addiction was heavy fuel for my intrusive thoughts. I was caught in guilt and sadness, and struggled heavily trying for years to quit. I got therapy, and began to study and better my theology as well, learning to ignore my intrusive thoughts and hold tight to God. I am an incredibly obsessive and easily addicted person so this screwed up the way I saw women. Only through prayer, talking about my problems, and a rethinking of how I see porn, have I been able to resist for a substantial amount of time. I am just recently recovering and I am so happy to be free from it. Another thing you might want to talk about is male loneliness as it fueled my addiction and obsession, and prevented me from opening up to people for support.

I'm still trying to quit hentai and porn in general... I've admittedly relapsed a few times, but with increasingly longer streaks of nofap, I can feel the difference. I have more mental clarity, confidence when talking to others, not afraid of going out and meeting people, and so on. Those moments when I relapsed felt horrible, and I vowed to double down on the good habits I've been doing like meditation and exercising (not to the point where I destroy myself though). I even start feeling disgust towards the more extreme contents, which used to be my pleasure. Feels like my mind is resetting. As someone who draws myself, I want to reduce the lustful content I used to put out. Better yet, stop them altogether, and instead use my art skills towards my own goal, which is to make my own brand... kinda like Omocat. The same thing happened to me, especially the disgust to the extreme contents, what helped me to quit these cursed acts was the praying of the rosary and the sacrament of confession, these two will help.

But contrary to the other beliefs you dont have to instantly change it. You can start doing somethimg absurdly small like staying off the computer for no reason for 30 seconds and start improving your life like this. And in the first days dont listen to the voices in your head because they will start putting you down. Literally talk back and soothe this voice. Then start going to the gym(ppl wont shame you for being fat) get out of the toxic communities like gaming(yes gaming is toxic), nofap(they say horseshit like "you will lose all benefits if you relapse" which is no you dont) and incels when you feel ready. I promise it will be like an instant decision. It doesnt jave to be right now. Know that what you live is a malaptive behaviour you learned as a child so its not your fault.

Yeah pretty much, that's why I don't like when people advocate for nofap too much, they're acting on the other end of the extreme and 90% of the people who try nofap end up relapsing and coming back to their addiction but way worse than before. I think the healthy advice is to just treat your addiction like you'd treat adapting to a new diet, start by slowly removing how often you do it, and then eventually you'll reach a healthy interaval for your body since we all have different systems.

We need to realize that love isn't the desire for a person that's just attraction , it's the desire to be compassionate towards them. I grew up watching/reading that type of content and I can say my curiosity in figuring out the risks like stds, curiosity in anatomy and what is lust and love are what kept me from having misconceptions so many others have had. only reason I'm glad I learned about it soon is that it helped me avoid rape on two separate occasions.
