How Pornography Destroys Your Mind

- Pornography is one of the greatest, but at the same time most overlooked, problems of the modern world. This video analyzes the history of pornography's legalization, the industry that currently surrounds and produces porn, the effects of porn on the human brain and behavior, and what can be done to fix the porn problem at both an individual and societal level. This is how Pornography Destroys Your Mind. The term 'porn use' and masturbation to porn are synonymous in the modern lexicon, and are used as such in this video.
This video is particularly relevant for those interested in Nofap, those who are trying to avoid porn, those skeptical of porn but unsure of its effects, or really anyone who's willing to learning the truth about pornography. If you're someone doing 'No Nut November' (NNN), this video is also relevant.

I saw it at 8 years old for the first time and was addicted by 9 years old. I’m 30 now. I’ve tried quitting so many times I can’t remember how many times I went hard against it. It pulls me back each time. I’m unsure if I can even get free at this point. I hate it. Every time I feel like a complete loser after watching (because I am a loser) and yet I go back each time like a dog to its vomit. Pray for me. I need it.
Godspeed.
Same, I started at 8 (damn, that´s still crazy to think about) and watched for eleven years until 19, now I´m pr0n-clean since the 4th of April. I wish you the best and hope your endeavors to quit pr0n bear fruit soon.
What helped me is to actually see that it's an enemy trying to hurt me, and seriously hate it. I reprogrammed myself to get angry instead of horny when i watched any pornographic content, and ended up being quiet aggressive and insulting towards friends who discussed it, but it was worth it.
My advice is, see it as a hit towards your ego and hate it with all your heart, with as much zealousy as you can muster.
How are things going now?

I’ve been free from porn for around 4 months but lately, I’ve been getting lustful temptations to go back to my addiction or at the very least lust at lewd images. So seeing this video feels like a message, a reminder of why I shouldn't throw in the towel just yet.
Keep going king.
I've found dietary changes made temptations reduce. If I eat junk food temptations come back, if I eat 5-6 eggs a day they reduce. Might be worth exploring.

As a porn addict who’s desperately trying to relinquish it for good, I am both grateful this video exists and disgusted with myself for having discovered it at 14 years old and since becoming drawn to it with no discouragement from anyone whatsoever. Now at 28, I continue to struggle to convince myself how abhorrent it is, constantly going into trances when it catches me, making me forget about various problems in my life, which is the only reason I watch it. Otherwise, I hate it. So much. Though I was told by my parents it’s all one big neurological fallacy, they never went far enough to stop me from viewing it, and nobody else I know (at least those whom I’ve discussed porn with) thinks it’s bad. Just normal. As many of us have said already, this video ought to be seen by millions of others, particularly the media, to warn them of just how destructive porn can be. I don’t expect any sympathy since I’m an addict who’s yet to quit, but to all those people out there who are trying to quit like me, don’t give up. To those who do feel like encouraging me and others like me, you have my thanks; more than ever now, people need to know the dangers of pornography no matter their “excuses” for using or producing it.

Bro.... it's exactly me I started at 14 and am now 27 its hard to quit. But let's not lose hope in our struggle
I watch pron about two times a week, have sex with my wife my wife about the same amount, I'm working and have even a bit of a social life outside of my family.
It never prevented me for having girlfriends or going to work or enjoying my hobbies. Funny thing is that none of my girlfriends watched porn and most were more horny than me. People can separate porn and real life, but truth to be told, watching it made me able to perform better as a lover, because I knew what could bring pleasure to a woman, and by having sex, you understand more and more what can turn on each person individually. Complementary.
I'd say porn have a bad effect on society because it became so mainstream. It's a private thing but we made it too "acceptable" and public. When every TV channels show you random bitches twerking their asses and getting money for it, you know society is doomed. Only Fans is a concentration of lazy whores who weren't more valuables before, and there's so much loneliness that some people are just simps in consequence. Not even talking about porn actresses becoming new anchors or TV shows who show gross stuff during prime time.
Too much porn ? Sure, drop it bro. A bit of it isn't too bad, for most people at least.
Here, I'm going to rub one for you. Cheers.
REMEMBER:
As mentioned in this video, the brain is able to adapt to new habits, so you can progressively give up bad habits little by little, in this case, pornography.
When you manage to at least quit this, you have to find new habits that will give you the amount of dopamine you require, which can be found in playing music, reading, going for walks, engaging in social activities, exercising, etc.
It's never too late to make a change, and in such short time you'll realise that it was worth it.

You can remove porn form society.
It can be removed, we just have to keep fighting against it via petitions and bringing awareness to how sinful it is, it’s especially not protected by free speech since even today, more so in other country such as in Europe, it’s being moderated thankfully. If American banned it once, then it can do so again.
@@Erik_Ochoa013 The idea that pornography is "freedom of speech" is beyond laughable. Free speech and free expression means you're allowed to express dissenting political opinions without fear of being punished. It does NOT mean you are allowed to create explicit content and upload it for the whole world to see. It's absurd just like the idea that free speech means lobbyists should be allowed to buy politicians or that abortion is protected under the 14th amendment are. That's not even mentioning that pornographers are often involved other crimes too, including sex trafficking and child molestation.
You can actually. Porn is not covered by freedom of speech, as others here have said.

I started with watching less hardcore stuff to ASMR and just manga and to juts using my imagination if the urge comes up. Then notice I can go without anything for weeks. But eventually I am pulled back to watching hardcore shit. Then I'd start all over again. Every time I get to do a streak I feel happier. Like time was rewound back to 10+ years ago. I hope I can eventually quit it all together.
If you want some advice, what worked for me is shaving every time I relapse, and, surprisingly, watching Evangelion. @@thethirdsicily4802 I think it was so effective for me because I watched the whole show prior to watching the movie, and as weird and fucked up as Eva is, it's very good at attaching you to the characters, so when something as shocking as the hospital scene happens and involves characters you've become attached to, it really sticks with you. It was key in that first month when temptations were still high, like the initial thrust needed to get a rocket into orbit.
I've never been a porn addict, but I am a recovering alcoholic. The effects of this video and the entire video in general hit home in a big way. I've known a lot of people in the recovery community who were cross addicted to both alcohol/drugs AND porn.
The interesting thing that I see time and time again is the ease of many people to talk openly about all of the horrible things they have suffered at the hands of drugs and alcohol and yet when porn addiction is brought up you can cut the tension in the air with a knife.
You think its taboo to talk about in the open and in general, hell its taboo in many recovery circles!
Great videos, keep them coming! Just binged watched all of them. lol
I think there's so much tension because people can easily use the drugs & alcohol as an escape goat for their actions but when porn is mentioned it becomes "embarassing" due to the fact that it was you & your will alone that broke due to porn, but this stigma is wrong because porn is so easily accessible and is so similar to drug addiction and has to be treated the same. We all have phones, and porn is only a few taps away.

Billy Graham once said something in the likes of sin traps you, you become like a mouse stuck in a rat trap yet the mouse still continues to nibble on the cheese Sin leads to death in all aspects of life. Commit your life to Jesus Christ.
SIN STARTS from the mind when you think about it expands eventually you run back to SIN even if you stop for a week or a month or a year, if your mind is not renewed daily you stand a 50/50 chance of going back. What does the bible say> The bible says: Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Renew your mind instead of thinking of evil. THINK OF GOOD THINGS CHARITABLE DEEDS ALL THE TIME. Remember in this world we are all soldiers on a mission, whether you like it or not. Deuteronomy 30:19 New Living Translation (NLT) “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!"
This is God speaking. He has given us His son, His spirit (The Holy Spirit), Himself, He has also given us dominion over the whole earth (Genesis 1:26) dominion over all principalities and power even the devil fears us because of Him that lives in us (Jesus Christ) If you accept Him.

So many "quitting" stories about pornography, social media, and junk food, sound nearly identical to the stories of alcoholics, stoners,, and smokers quitting their respective drugs.
Porn, social media, and junk food act on the same reward pathways that drugs do, and that's why they're so problematic. We gotta treat these things like what they really are, drug addictions minus the drugs.
Not social media; the fake news media!
Looks like the algorithm is trying to tell me something
the identifier for me for a guy who's moved away from pornography is when he doesnt remember when he started his no porn streak. Which can either mean negligence, or that porn has become so insignificant in his life, that abstaining from watching it not a challenge anymore
exactly
Yep. It's been like 3 weeks for me and I didn't even start counting.
I attended a boys/men summer church retreat where a room of 200 males aged 16-60 admitted to each other that EVERY ONE of us were addicted to pornography.
Holy crap.
Gayyyyy lol
Got exposed at 8, now I'm 15 and chasing purity. Gotta repent when I can and prevent further addiction
I never masturbated. And I thank the Lord that I never did. I'm Christian and my grandma warned me about masturbation. It pretty much changed my entire perspective on life. "People genuinely watch others have sex and pleasure themselves to it? That definitely can't be healthy."
And I was right. I have a friend who turned athiest and became a chronic masturbator. Though soon after, he would regain faith and stop his porn addiction.
God bless your grandma!
Your friend's situation is simulare to mine. I got hooked to porn at an early age (when i was 2nd-3rdgrade) and became "athiest" soon after aka i worshiped women. When i tried to stop with this nonseanse did i reconnect with God and became orthodox christian. It was like a miracle, i tell you that.

@WickedParanoid yeah sounds like bs tbh. I've never seen anyone say that they had stopped believing in God, because they wanted to watch porn or masturbate. NoFap has primarily become a Christian cope, though I stopped watching porn because I decided that I'd much rather be having sex with a real person. Although I suppose that still makes me a degenerate according to some. 😂
A lot of men grapple with a porn addiction. The problem with pornography is that it destroys your ability to appreciate women on anything other then a superficial level. It shows you things you will never do and shows you women more attractive then any woman you will ever be with. Maybe we would be better off without it.
agreed but some become desensitised beyond belief that they will watch anything. the problem with them is they dont know how to stop.
Women?
@@blast4ce yeah it aint just women. men are also being held to virtually impossible beauty standards and to this day, are still being overly sexualized. honestly tho, society has come to a point where washboard abs are so overrated anyway.
BS not everyone is that delusional i know to draw the line between fantasy/acting and real life. It don't change the way i see women and it don't make me act like a sick person. Just the fastest way to release.. im not addicted and i don't seek it everywhere i am. Just when i feel like it. Oh, and im not an incel. Not at all😊
And i never desensitized to regular porn. I like the regular old fashioned straight sex..
this is a flawed take. besides this video is 1 sided, i gurantee you that anyone addicted to porn would have found another addiction in some form.
Anti obscenity laws would also drastically change the music industry. Not only the lyrics, but also the soft-porns that music videos have become.
They should also do one on how social media destroys women's minds.
As someone who watches porn, I wish it was easy to stop. Lust is a sin- sin is addictive. If sin was easy to avoid then all humans would be saints, yet all man are sinners. To bad my resolve is just so weak that I can’t fight against the sin I could change. The worlds hella cruel ain’t it.

Thank you for making this video, as someone recovering from pornography/masturbation addiction, I can tell you that anyone who says it's "healthy" or "normal" or that it "causes no problems" doesn't know what they're talking about or are lying. This addiction ruined my life, and luckily, I'm on the way to being clean now. It's such a shame that everywhere I go, pornography is seen as such a normal thing. A ton of people at my school are always talking about/sending pornography to each other and they say things like "Why am I so depressed?" or "Life has no meaning." Though whenever I tell them to quit, they get all mad. Anyone else who is addicted, please try to quit now before your life gets worse.
Most people don't ever try to come to their own conclusion about things like morality, they just go along with whatever is normal, because for most of human history, the norm was what worked.
That's not the case today, society has weakened its defenses of tradition, which then caused people to search elsewhere for solutions to their woes. Whether or not something is normal in such a circumstance is largely up to chance, but people don't realize this and will go along with whatever is normal, never stopping to think about it.
If you're addicted to porn, of all things, your life is already over lmao.. people are out there struggling with real psychological addictions and you're complaining cus you can't stop jacking off.. grow tf up
It's worse when therapists give you those exact same lines.
Once I stopped blaming porn for all my issues and stopped hating myself for doing it every once and a while I felt much better. Some of you all need to consider that your problem goes beyond porn. Porn addiction is a symptom of a greater problem not being dealt with.
Shure right now you will feel better for a while coping that once in a while porn is good for you, IT'S NOT one hour of porn is bad for you one minute of porn is bad for you one video of porn is bad for you, yes you will fell worse trying to break the addiction then before fighting it but it's worth it beacause sooner or later the benefits will follow
Agreed, I also don't see how porn is any worse than any other unrealistic fantasy. How many people spiral into depression when they realize they can't have a life like they see in Disney movies or anime? It's all just excessive escapism without being able to reconcile with reality in a healthy way.
It depends on the context.
Agreed, most things in moderation are okay, like porn. However if you use it to escape your reality on a regular basis, it's obviously going to be detrimental. I've watched porn together with my partner, it's fun. Just don't abuse it.
@satan7746 You sound like you're in a cult. Some people just don't have the strength to tackle their problems unless they place the blame all on one single outside source, I guess. But that's not realistic or rational.
For those of you struggling with shame because of your addiction - consider this - shame is identify based, meaning when you feel shamed by something you identify as shameful, whereas guilt will actually repel you from the behavior. Change shame into guilt by changing what you identify as.

Pornography is inhumane. It should never be a part of our daily routine. It abolishes the relationships we have with our loved ones and destroys our lives. I am genuinely sorry for the individuals that think it is normal to sit in a chair and watch these dirty exhibitionists expose their cleavage and display their dicks and showing their ass on a camera while jerking off. And I especially feel sorry for the exhibitionists themselves, hoping that they will change.
If you are porn-free, be glad. Be proud of yourself. If you are fighting an addiction to porn, keep fighting against it. You shouldn't deserve to suffer like this. All of us are praying for you and the modern society we live in. Stay strong, brothers.
There's a few main problems that will make banning pornography extremely trifficulty
1. Pornography is so normalized nowadays that it would be like taking a genga piece from society
2. There's so many thing that are overlapping or getting overlaped to by pornography that it will be impossible to break one thing without breaking another
3. What would be considered pornographic or just erotic? unfortunaley or forunaley several artists make a living making theses kinds of stuff
4. Even if you make laws to ban theses kind of things it will have a lot of loopholes, just see the situation in japan for example

I only just came across this video but I’m currently in the process of trying to escape a pornography addiction. I’m a 27 year old woman and have been struggling with a porn addiction since I was about 10. Earlier this year, in January 2023, I realized I hadn’t watched any in a couple of days and decided to see how long I could make it last. I’ve currently made it three months and am on my way to a fourth. That’s not to say I haven’t been tempted by it or desired to, I actually almost gave in today but I’m too stubborn to not succeed now and to be honest, I have read some smut in that time but it’s baby steps.
May you recover soon ma'am
Good luck!

I first started viewing it at 11 - 12 years old and since then it's been a downward spiral into depravity and I'm still addicted to it as an 18 year old. I still haven't told my parents to keep them blissfully unaware of my problems because I know it would hurt them. Sometimes I feel like ending my life because of the extreme amounts of shame I feel if any parents see this please don't let your kids on the internet because it is one of the worst mistakes you can make
If your parents are anything like mine, tell them. I had the same issue. I found it when I was homeschooled at 13 and developed an addiction to it. I spent the next few years trying to hide it from my parents and feeling guilty about it. I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so I figured my parents would be even stricter than normal parents if I told them, and was worried about when it would be time to go on my mission. I even , uncharacteristically, began to think suicidal thoughts too. But about a year back, when I was 16, I told them the truth finally. They were shocked, of course, but they were just worried for me and reassured me it would be ok and that they wanted to help me through it. Now, a year later, I still have some issues from time to time, but my views on my parents, my religion, and my life have changed dramatically and I feel so much more secure and comfortable. So if there’s ANY chance your parents will listen and understand, tell them. It’s not worth keeping it inside your whole life
@@therealjbroi have a sort of similar story. Im Catholic, discovered it during covid, and didnt tell my parents for about a year, but then just couldn’t take it anymore and told them. I've been addicted to it and wanted to quit countless times but the urge is deeply rooted and I fail again & again. I've experienced all the negative effects associated to porn/masturbation. I'm 3 days clean now, and the longest I've been is only a week. Everyday the urge grow stronger and I always give in😥

Sadly nofap isn't just about porn avoidance, people take it to extremes and just abstain from any kind of sexual release whatsoever. That's not healthy and that's not normal - just because you've ditched porn doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't take care of those needs in another safe, controlled and legal way. I watched porn for the first time when I was 14, at the age of 22 I've sworn off it. I haven't watched porn in about 3 weeks, the mantra I remember when tempted is an excerpt form The Bible; "The wages of sin is death" -Romans 6:23. Stay strong brothers.
I've noticed that whenever I'm skipping sleep and very stressed, I'm more bound to seek porn. I think when I engage in guided meditation accompanied with self affirmations, I was able to avoid watching it. The thing is porn just doesn't help in the long run. I also feel I'm able to control on my anger when I don't watch porn. Been 3 days without porn, and I feel good. Ik my life still sucks and I'm still a loser, but feel like a loser who can change his life around. Idk what that means.
You need to stop calling yourself a loser. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Start talking about yourself like you're someone valuable - because you are
Ive been around porn and nudity all my life and I never really cared about it. When i was young in Brazil, I always thought it was something certain adults did. In Japan i never cared about it despite it being out in the public in some areas. I didnt know why but i never cared. I knew i wasnt old enough to understand it so i ignored it when i saw it. It wasnt until i came to the US that i learned what it was and how it went against US values and weatern values. I learned it was due to religious values, western comforts, and somewhat i think are feminism principles. When i was in college I didnt mind seeing and being around sex and nudity. I guess not being of a complete western mind i was more open to nudity and sexuality. Overall, adult things dont bother me and i believe people who want to live a swinger or lewd-accepting lifestyle should have their own private community away from children and society to enjoy thwir own sexual lifestyles. I also believe sexuality is human nature. The purpose of any organism is to reproduce. I also believe this is how humans should authentically behave if not constrained to culture. I believe sexual behaviors should be consentual and should be practiced safely with people others can trust. Personally, im not very sexual. I keep myself busy. But these are my beliefs.

@user-yr8ni4zf9c Being weak is not alright. Everyone goes through weak and strong phases but you would try to stay the strongest as long as possible.
I understand... I thought it was impossible to get out of this loophole, and there was no way I could quit the addiction, but on this very day, I have quitted and stopped my habits. This will be up to you if you want to accept it or not. Pornography can be quit, but it takes a lot of self-control, and literally (not joking in here) cutting the problems from the root. Everything related to what might cause you to fall needs to be deleted asap. Also, take a break from social media, and stop following content that could tempt you to keep the habit.
First, you need to recognize that you need help and acknowledge that alone you cannot do this; This would be the part that almost anyone doesn't want to get involved in, but I think this is a MUST, to quit pornography at least entirely. You need to pray a lot, and that means praying a lot to Jesus and God. Go to confession (if you're baptized Catholic), or go to a priest. He would surely give you advice on how to proceed. In the most severe case, a psychologist is recommended (although for seculars I wouldn't be so sure)
Start going less through social media, start reading, and find new hobbies (or just something to get your mind busy), and when the urge comes, just try to pray, and think about what would God do in this situation. The difficult part is that the images will come to you, and it will be difficult to overcome at first, but that's the thing, through Christ we can do the impossible.
It is true, the scars will be there, and It's tough because you'll have to cut content that you used to enjoy before. This is not easy, it is a process, but you'll have to renounce some things in order to avoid addiction and sin. Sometimes I struggle, but I can tell you that by doing that, things will get better, and the temptations will still be there, but then, you'll be healing, and what would affect you easily, eventually (though slowly or rapidly depending how seriously you take it) it will no longer affect you, but be aware that you need to stop and no longer seek this content.
To tell you the truth, I still struggle sometimes, but I have not seen it since then, and stop my addiction. It's better to cut out things that will make you fall than to keep them.
As Jesus said himself: "And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell." (Matthew 18:9)
It's obviously addictive. Anything that sets off the dopamine can be. Anyone who denies it is addictive is in denial, same with the people who act like every dopamine caused behavior needs to be banned.
People are just weak and need to be stronger and have control over themselves.
It destroys everybody involved with it.
Thank you so much for this video. I started at a young age and this is something I still struggle with at 26... There's been a lot of times where I lost hope, but watching this video has given me some hope back. I'll keep going cause I want to beat this shit. All of it is nothing but the devil at work. It's a pandemic that's been plaguing us for way too long. But I wish the best for all of us still struggling with this. Thanks again for bringing more awareness to this and how harmful it truly is. More people need to see this and accept the truth. Nothing good has ever come from porn.
I first encountered it as a teenager, but after a few years, I managed to break free for about 2.5 years. I relapsed after a series of panic attacks I was having, and haven't been able to break away since. It has been, without a doubt, the most significant affliction on my quality of life in the last few years. The amount of sleep I've lost over it, how long I've put off seeking out a relationship because of it.
I knew it was wrong, but some part of my mind repeated those exact myths about porn being perfectly healthy that I'd heard from somewhere or other, and sometimes, that was enough to tip me over the edge.
I don't want to wait any longer. I don't care how many times I've tried and failed. I can't keep putting my life on hold any more. I will stop this.
Praying for all of you in your journeys.
