I'm gonna miss people answering the title of the episode without watching the entire thing...
Watched the whole thing waiting for them to answer that question, and they just kind of responded, "LOL, monogamy is the only way we think about romantic relationships." I really like questions, so the concept of this podcast appeals to me, but taking a question they didn't really address and using it as the episode title kind of feels like clickbait.

I just want to preface by saying I am not religious or anything. I am infact extremely atheist. That being said I did not watch the video so I am sure I cannot meet your arguments, talking points or anything, but that is because this subject makes me imagine things about my own wife that breaks my heart. It is a part of us whether people want it or not. I just want to write a comment because I feel there are viewpoints that are being ignored, not voiced or perspectives usually not taken in this debate from what I usually hear about this.
But my main POV: I do not believe that any form of appeal to nature, or appeal to ancient times is anything but bs. Appealing to nature is usually appealing to our animalistic instincts, and disregarding our rationality and even feeling. Rational thought and feeling is just as "natural" as biology. Autonomy as "self-laws" is just as natural if not more so than the disregard of these things for the benefit of lust.
Any moral argument that at the same time argues for the abandonment of autonomy and rationality in an appeal to nature, falls flat imho.
Whether or not these "institutions" came with western societies doesn't matter at all for how we should see it today. You should look at how people today feel and evolve from that, instead of trying to devolve back to a state of being from 2k years ago and normalise that because you feel it would be better for everyone. Thats just forcing your own views on everyone else, while trying to silence others by trying to make the argument into a moral argument by appealing to colonialism etc.
Again, did not watch the vid, so I might have missed the mark on your arguments. And I also realize my argument/views are poorly structured here (only so much you can do in a yt comment.) But I do feel this topic needs to wake up from their own bubble in general.
It might sound like moving the goalpost, but I feel like the only way a romantical and sexual relationship between more than 2 people could truly work, without the development of complexes and other issues, would either be if some of the people in the relationship were literal psychopaths, dumb or if everyone in the relationship-bubble loved each other equally. Like. For instance in 2m1f the m were just as in love with each other as with the f. And the other way around.

Quite frankly, too many people get married. And most that I've seen are either miserable, or very good at creating a facade that they arent.
As an early 40's female who is differently abled, and sometimes needs help with things I don't have the physical capacity for- it would be great to have that!
Instead, my guy friends just take me to dinner, get my nails done, and hope for sex (which never happens). Not that I'm adverse to physical intimacy (though not sexual), and I am very genuinely grateful for those things and enjoying them with my loved ones.
I feel like wife sharing isn't really because she makes a great casserole and/or has an awesome personality.
