It is unacceptable that Keemstar is still so supported in this community. I love you guys and I will see you tomorrow!

    I agree for the most part. It's tough because while drugs becomes an addiction/illness, some form of personal responsibility still exists. My mom was addicted to cocaine and meth at different points growing up. Eventually to deal with the pain, my dad turned to drug use as well. I love them both, but they ruined my childhood by not taking responsibility. They both hurt me in ways that forever effect me. Theirs a time for you to take responsibility to get help for your addiction for the sake of the people or things you love.

    • @smokey_glow

      I agree. It's so hard because the addiction is not a choice, but the only way to recover is by making choice not to use. I hope they get/got the help they needed. 💕💕

    This past Saturday, my mom was officially 4 years sober. I am so fucking proud of her because she was in a rough spot for a VERY long time due to lots of trauma. My dad is still a current alcoholic and he's at a point where I don't see him improving. (I don't live with him anymore) My uncle has been sober for a few years and he was also VERY bad. Addiction is insane but im so thankful I grew up knowing how powerful it is and how dangerous it is to have that disease. Sometimes I forget it's not common knowledge to other people cuz they haven't dealt with it and it upsets me when people don't take it seriously. So glad you're healthy tho❤❤ everything you said is so true and I totally relate

    Thanks for making this video. As someone who also comes from a long line of alcoholics, I find my perspective similar, but a little different. I am 100% predisposed to addiction, and I've struggled with a few (sugar, coffee, shopping), and I have compassion for those not related to me who struggle with worse addictions. However, when it comes to my family members who struggle the most, I find my compassion and empathy aren't as strong. And that's largely because they refuse to acknowledge that they have a problem and won't even try to get better. As a person, I can have compassion, but as a family member who has needed to depend on those people, I have none. I like the saying of "Addiction/mental illness is not your fault, but it IS your responsibility."

    • @kayxo4054
      @kayxo4054 Před 6 lety +1

      ThoughtsArrive Denial is one of the first steps to realizing you truly have a problem. I was told in treatment long ago- “if you have to control it, it’s out of your control.” Don’t lose faith in them! Give them tough, but understanding love. You’ll never truly know how much pain that person is trying to mask ❤️ And unfortunately you never know how long you have in active addiction, to live. So many people I’ve written off, so many I’ve cursed and kicked, when in all reality: They’re sick. Incredibly sick. And it has everything to do with them, and nothing to do with you.

    hey awesome video. attorney here. just to clarify, the victim has no control over whether a plea deal is offered (although prosecutors attempt to give them a voice in the process) because the victim is technically not a party to the case. the victim also is not financially responsible for the prosecution of the criminal case. that said, much of what you said in terms of why plea deals are offered frequently in sexual assault cases is spot on!

    Girl, I get it. I’m 4 years clean. My addiction started with a dr...pain pills..exactly as you described. I went to a 6 month faith based rehab (my husband and in laws put me there..away from my two kids..FOR DEPENDANCY ON MY RX PAIN PILLS). I got out...was so happy to be home with my family...but my husband and in laws never treated me the same again. They were always spying on me and having family meetings behind my back. My husband went from being my partner, to my authority. So...I relapsed and came clean about it. They literally kicked me out of my own home..turned their backs..my husband divorced me and took my kids from me. It was horrible. It was during that trauma that I really became what they told me I was. I started self ,educating to numb myself. I began using hard drugs just so I wouldn’t feel the pain and guilt. It went on for almost a year, then I finally had to move in with my parents in Texas because I’d lost everything, including myself. That’s when I got clean and decided that I was t going to let them tell my kids whatever narrative they would spin if I lost my life. I had to face myself and my emotions, and make the choice to fight for my kids again because I love them more than I hated myself. To this day, I’m clean and still driving 500 miles every other weekend to go see my kids. I’m still working to clean up the mess I made, and learn hw to be independent, so that I can take that asshole back to court.
    Just thought I’d share. I know it’s a lot, but if one person can relate or get some sort of hope to fight on...then my story won’t be in vein.

    Hey Hannah! (I hope that's how you spell it lol) That was a really great video! I work as a pharmacy technician and doing so, unfortunately I see a lot of drug addicts. To be honest I use to think lower of these patients. I knew drug addictions are a serious illness but for some reason I had this stigma about them that they were bad people or "losers". With the way you explained how the addiction controls the patient, I see that I've been wrong for thing of these people in this way. Of course I can't 100% understand since I've never gone through this before, but this has definitely shed a light on a topic that I knew about, but not enough. Thank you so much for giving me a different perspective and educating me on these illnesses! It's changed me for the better! Much love!!!

    I saw the first tweet and that night I got so angry I unfollowed him and stopped looking in his direction when he made the first comment. I plan on discussing him further during the livestream today but the one thing that bothers me the most is that this man has a female child. What is wrong with him? Would he like someone to treat his daughter like he treats these ladies? Urgh.
    As far as drug and alcohol addiction, I have always believed your body tells you that you need something and unconsciously you go get it. For example, women sometimes eat dirt when they are pregnant because their body needs particular minerals. That sort of thing. So a person that is alcoholic or addicted, I believe their body senses they need something and the way to "cure" it, is by using that, kind of like self medication. Unfortunately, it works until your body becomes immune to the "medication" and then you need more. That is how I look at it anyways. I believe addiction is an illness, just like depression or anxiety and like most illnesses, people that don't have them, don't understand them.
    Thank you for speaking on it and if his fans come for you, let me know. I have no problem educating them.

    • @kayxo4054
      @kayxo4054 Před 6 lety +2

      Metamorphosis Rox You are absolutely correct! Addiction is a combination of physical addiction (withdrawal without the substance) and a mental compulsion to use drugs (a rabid obsession). It’s literally insane what “experimenting” with drugs did to my brain at such a young age. It’s like drugs are welding together certain parts of my psyche, because sometimes, even though I’m 2+ years clean now (July 5th, 2016), I still crave drugs when I can’t cope with my reality. And it’s something I’ll always have to deal with, and not many people will ever experience those types of obsessive thoughts. And not many people care to truly look into addiction and how it works, and for Keem to have such a large platform, spreading this nonsense, is sooooo disheartening.

    I don’t know if you knew but the whole court situation was also years ago. It was brought up because the girl was also very vocal about her dislike for Logan Paul who publicly called her a liar and was aggressive w her in person over the whole thing. So of course when Casey interviewed him and he said he “always respects women” she outwardly disagreed because of the way he’d treated her in the past. That’s when Keemstar inserted himself unneeded.

    I love this video. Everything you said is spot on. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 21 and a way I grieved was by moving my life to San Francisco. I put most my focus in my work and used it as a distraction to ignore my loss. Worked like crazy and got promoted and raises very fast. I started doing painkillers with my friend and always thought I was doing it for fun and that I could stop whenever I wanted. I would tell my friend that we weren’t addicted because we didn’t buy it and that once we start spending our money on pills is when we should be concerned. Well before you know we were spending thousands a month on them and it got to the point where I was so unhappy and it no longer made me feel that high. Instead I was taken them just to feel normal and not be in pain with withdrawal. I finally one night decided I was done and I needed to stop before it either ruined my life. After stopping I realized I had been numbing myself to not feel grief and to not deal with my reality of loss. It is very much a disease and like they say “the disease of addiction has no prejudice” it doesn’t care about race, religion, wealth, or age. It can and does effect anyone that falls into its trap.

    I’m a 4th generation addict (at least) and I completely agree with all of your statements about addiction, it is 100% a disease, and the stigma and victim blaming of addiction is really sad in 2019. I spent the better part of a decade addicted to anything and everything, and got sober in April of 2018, now I’m just addicted to makeup luckily 🙏 I used to be someone that would say addiction is a choice, drugs are for losers, whatever. And honestly, I very much believe that this culture of teaching kids that drugs are bad and for losers and that there is no benefit, is what causes kids to experiment. We need better drug education, we need recovering addicts giving talks at schools and telling them what happened to them, and why HONESTLY, not just “drugs are bad, and there were no benefits blah blah blah”

  • @user-ii7nd1lz4z
    @user-ii7nd1lz4z Před 6 lety +1

    I think we've come a ways with drugs, but we still have a ways to go. I mean, you can find plenty of old ads where companies like Bayer sold products meant for children that contained heroin. We know now that was probably not the best idea, because we know more about what it does to our brains and bodies.
    People with sensation-seeking tendencies have a different pattern of behaviors. Whether it's becoming addicted to coffee (or another drug), having an addiction to body modifications, or feeling like you NEED to have another piece of chocolate; having too much of ANYTHING can destroy your life. I think the difference is the perception. We're just told that someone who has damaged their life because of drugs isn't worth helping. Addiction is a serious problem, and the focus should be the person struggling, not the addiction itself.

  • @carriekup
    @carriekup Před 6 lety +1

    You do not need to believe that someone is a victim in order for a statement to qualify as victim shaming! I would bet that most people who do actual legitimate victim shaming probably don't believe anyone they are shaming is actually a victim. If they believed that person was a victim they wouldn't be shaming them. The whole reason victim shaming is such an issue and such a problem is because random people think that they have a right to choose whether or not someone is a victim. That's not the case. Whether or not a third person believes that someone is a victim does not determine whether or not that person actually is a victim. It's absolutely true that false accusations do make it much more difficult for real victims to come forward. But it was such a strategic and manipulative way to use that statement against an actual victim that it's just nauseating

    its gunna be one of the hardest things you do but you gotta stop focusing on fixing the addiction and start focusing on why tf ur self medicating.... unless ur truly 100% positive ur addiction comes from nowhere and its the main issue and not a symptom of another issue

    Speaking on addiction to anything: It is not your fault that you are an addict/alcoholic however when you know there is a solution it is your responsibility. I believe that’s what you were trying to say. And yes opiate addiction is particularly difficult because it isn’t a poison to our bodies and therefore we get hooked even quicker. I struggled with it for 30 years been sober for 7. I don’t wish that on anyone but I understand the struggle. Hate the addiction not the addict. Real talk.

    So much yes! I know 3 people, specifically, who used heroin and didn't get addicted. One used semi-daily to thrn daily, for 6 months. Then one day said they would never do it again...and he's not done it again. That was in 1997. The other 2 used for a longer period of time, however less time of daily use. They also just said one day that they would never do it again...and haven't. I've lost touch with 1 of the latter but the other 2 are healthy and quite successful today. They were Lucky! They did not have a dangerous chemical alterations in their brains, they are not addicts! Mind you, they had physical withdrawal when they stopped. But they are not addicts. They simply got lucky. Our friend group has been ravaged by addiction, SO many deaths. And none if them were "losers" or "low lives".....

  • @MermaidInTheWater
    @MermaidInTheWater Před 5 lety

    Hey I’m new to your channel and really enjoyed this video. You made a lot of great points, but I have to disagree with you in part when you started talking about addiction. I also come from a family of alcoholics and addicts and thankfully I haven’t become addicted to anything beyond sugar and caffeine. I also decided to stop drinking when i knew it could be a huge problem for me in the future. But it felt like you were almost taking most of the blame off of addicts due to their genetic disposition to addiction, and almost absolving them of their choices. You did mention that you believe in personal responsibility and that to an extent addiction is a choice... and maybe that’s been your experience with it. But usually addiction or alcoholism isn’t by itself an illness. Yes it is an illness, but usually as a symptom of some bigger problem such as mental illness like depression or anxiety. I understand fully that my parents were predisposed to addiction, but not in the sense that they had no choice. My father died an alcoholic and while I do feel bad for him and i understand he had a difficult life, I’m not going to say it wasn’t his choice to continue to destroy himself, instead of rising above his circumstances and mistakes. Same with my mom who’s still living and still an alcoholic. It’s ultimately her choice to not seek help and to give in to those cravings. And addiction is more than just mental... there is absolutely a physical dependency upon a substance as much as it is mental.
    I agree with you that we shouldn’t just abandon those individuals suffering from addiction, but those of us trying to help can only do so much. I can’t make my mom stop drinking so she doesn’t end up like my dad.. only she can make that choice. I can give her support, but I’m perfectly fine with distancing myself from her while she’s still drinking because I’m not going to let someone else’s poor life choices bring me down. She and my father have affected me enough growing up, and I refuse to feel guilty for not helping her when in reality she’s the only person who can help her because after a while all of this is a choice.
    Maybe my view is coming from someone who’s fed up with ppl NOT taking personal responsibility and destroying themselves and blaming the world for their problems. I don’t really feel that bad for my parents because they’re ADULTS and they’ve had DECADES to work on their issues and make better choices. And I believe Demi Lovato made a choice, too. I sincerely hope she gets better. Sadly I couldn’t make the right choices for my dad and I can’t for my mom, nor for any other addict out there.
    I thought I would just drop another viewpoint on here, even though I’m totally late to this video. I’m looking forward to checking out more of your content.

    As someone who is very familiar with the court system in Pennsylvania, I don't know where the incident took place but still, almost across the board plea deals benefit the defendant. I highly doubt that the woman who was the victim even wanted him to take the plea deal. Usually a plea deal is offered because the person who did something wrong usually will rather take a plea deal then face the mandatory minimums that is the only alternative. The benefit to the prosecution is that they save money and they save time and they basically get a speedy conviction. To say that just because someone got a plea deal that means they must be innocent... is so incredibly far from the truth it's laughable

I've never had medicine that would actually take my pain away..it puts my mind in a "different" place but the pain is still there. I would definitely say I'm addicted to my medicine even though I'm not buying anyone's pills on the side of the street..in my opinion doctors get people hooked on them so they have to go back every month or so.. it's very easy for people who don't have "real" pain to get addicted doctors will pump them out for anything then people in "real" pain cant get half as much as they really need.. I know people that are 60-70 years old with horrible pain and there doctors wont give them tylenol 3.. but a 16 year old go to the same doctor and walk out with two months supply of 20mg roxy's it's just not right

    Also - what you said about addiction being a mental illness is 100% true. *Everyone has a chance to become physically addicted to something, but not everyone will become mentally addicted* !! NOBODY who is addicted to drugs is doing that to themselves because they WANT to. They do it because their brain cannot function without that drug there. You don’t feel like you’re alive unless you have that thing that’s missing. Not just the fact that you become violently ill without them, you literally don’t feel like yourself without it.

    Yes . Most dont onow because like others i dont shout it to the world. Im an opiate addict. It started as medication from the dentists. What they didnt tell me is hpw addicting they are. After literally 8 days my body became addicted to them. My body went through withdrawals. Im 25 years old and ive been addictee since I was 20. Im in a suboxone program now that has a blocker. (The one that saved demis life and counteracts the opiates) I actually use cannabis everyday and its helped me with my depression and anxiety. Your body doesnt become dependent on cannabis. Actually everyone tries alcohol and that would be the real gate way drug.Doctors start the addictions. Mostly painpills lead to herion because the withdrawals are so horrendous that they would do anything to stop it. I cant eait until the day I dont need a pill to be a human. You cant sleep ,eat, sit still, you throw up. Its the worse flu ×10. Its horrible and it WASNT my choice.
