To show how old this attitude was. SOCRATES felt this way saying writing things down is bad for people cause our memories would degrade. THIS WAS A THING SINCE ANCIENT GREECE.
The doomerism is a result of the internet. It is super easy to get depressed when you get to know all the shit things happening around the world

New york local here, i think most locals don't care about the water lmao, or atleast its def not a significant reason on why they stay. If you want to hear the main reason why ppl love new york, its because the sheer diversity creates such a unique community, which leads to one of the most fun chatting lobbies in the world. Legit you can meet a korean person who runs a french bakery, which could lead you being a part of their North African friend's wedding, whose Italian wife loves the indie rock scene in China
Basically you can meet anyone from anywhere, doing anything, and somehow you can be apart of it.

    They still sell home kits.
You can buy a dome home kit and build your own dome home.
You can certainly still build your own home in America.
In fact, you don't need a license if you build your own home.
You still need permits, but you probably don't need a license.
Of course, it probably depends what state you are in and what type of home you are building.

**sigh** I hate to be that person, but war didn't go away after WW2 ended, Stalin continued his march across Europe, and a lot of people continued to die. A lot of countries and people had war fatigue after the Nazis and just had to focus on survival and moving to countries like the USA and Australia.
But for something more modern, The Afghanistan War has been going on for decades, there are now multiple generations who have served in the conflicts occurring in Afghanistan. There are plenty of people in the Gen Z and Millennial categories who have experienced War first hand.
But I will make the argument that the recovery of war can be just as traumatic (or more) than War itself. And then there's the problem of intergenerational trauma, just because grandpa didn't talk about the war, doesn't mean that he was able to leave it behind. This stuff pops up randomly whether you like it or not.

The thing with the bread is in the US West (non-coast) they have hard water. The level of minerals in the tap water is awful and it impacts your ability to make good bread and pizza dough.
There are styles of bread and pizza crust from the US North East that literally fail if you make them with hard water (too many minerals), distilled water know minerals and no taste) or softened water (too acidic).
It's a huge problem for anyone who moves out from New York or Boston and tries to open up a restaurant in some place like Phoenix or Denver.
