Connor was done dirty here. Let the man use his nice 75% keyboard smh.
Besides, keebheads have a variety of keyboards anyways. I’ve got 96%, TKL, 65%, 60%, and gonna look for a good 75% and 40% soon. Oh, and an Arisu board is on the way, and if I like typing on it I’ll get a split.
@@matasa7463 what is the 96%?
@@tamhuy10 Just a cheap GK96S. It’s also my only wireless board, though I kinda want to get another wireless…
yea I agree with connor, if I gone to hotel for extended time using TV as second monitor, 75% keyboard is the way, for a day or less trip laptop and mouse is kinda enough
@@tamhuy10will all the key including numb pad but compress the layout
Garnt and Joey's arguments are unironically worse than their food takes
Yeah true and that take on laptop keyboard is pain... :D I had notebook with external keyboard as a setup cuz it was so fucking pain to use it while playing csgo and constantly toutching touch pad with your hand.
Idk this they're just being closed minded, 90% of bread was downright insulting and baffling to literally everybody
@@WATERGXD I agree with using a separate keyboard, but did you know you can disable a laptop's touch pad?
NO CRUST GANG 4 LIFE! Crust is awful...
@@ctographerm3285 Yes i know that but if your mouse stops working you are fckd. :D
Title: Making Fun of Connor's Keyboard Choices
Comment section: "Connor is right guys wtf"
Even for Connor who is usually known for not being able to express himself well on the spot, on top of only having just dipped his toes into the keeb world, I think he defended the hobby quite well. He made solid points that can apply to most people and tried his best not to be nitpicky or biased, despite the nonsense arguments that Garnt and Joey were throwing at him.
What, I don't really think that arguing that the _"best way to optimize the keyboard is removing the numpad because you save desk space"_ is a real argument given that people use computers in different ways. As the other two said the issue with Connor's argument was that he was being absolute with his statements. I agree that for his usage he can find not having the numpad beneficial but, for example, as a developer (or as an accountant as Garnt and Joey said) the numpad is essential to optimize typing.
As always the best option is to have the ability to choose between different options instead of saying that one is better than others.
felt like Joey was being especially difficult here even though Connor was making complete sense
Yeah that really ticked me off
Considering joey the clown didn’t know to plug his monitor into the gpu lol. He doesn’t really understand this world he’s shitting on for no reason
ok and
I feel like Joey is always difficult, and Garnt always joins him 🤣
There's a reason why the Joey is a Karen meme has stuck around for so long. I won't pass judgement on someone based only on an online personality (because it can go both ways), but IF you just based it on his youtube persona (both on trash taste and his own channel) Joey consistently has Karen like qualities that fans have latched onto. But you also got to think about the fact that if they all agreed with each other on everything it would less entertaining. You get viral clips/more views from having, well trash tastes. Plus they're all legit good friends and busting each others balls/trolling over mundane shit is just what mates do. It's just usually not in front of a camera being broadcasted to a million+ people each week.
Never have I felt "you just don't get it." as strongly till this clip
I'm with Connor on that one. Don't know why they clowning on him...
He's just bad at explaining it to the bois
@@yuri_nori bois attacked him like vultures! But usually Garnt is a victim, and Connor this time didn't even said nothing that much controversial.
Team Connor
It's because grunt and john have the tech knowledge and usage of a 10 year old. Anyone that is tech knowledgeable like connor knows that getting your own keyboard that you like is a good thing.
IKR, I’m with Connor too. Whats wrong with carrying portable keyboard and caring about ergonomics?? I was kinda pissed cuz they were clowning on him so hard 😩
Definitely a winner for "Hottest take of the year" award during next year's Trash Taste Awards. We must vindicate Conner here.
Whenever Joey ran out of arguments, "ya cuz its funny"
I mean idk why connor getting clowned on. Being comfortable increases productivity if ur wrists hurt cus of the bad position a laptop keyboard forces u in then u should take a 75%
Also a laptop's keyboard gets hot, so it becomes uncomfortable to use
@@HellShootespecially if it’s a gaming laptop. I love my zephyrus (a beast of a pc and still amazing for a 3 year old laptop) but the keyboard gets hot enough to heat up my entire room
I don't usually agree with connor's takes but I have never felt so frustrated about joey and garnt's clowning and so happy that connor likes the 75 layout as I do
75's are nice for travel tkl for home use. thats the play in my opinion
@@READERSENPAII it's the same thing.
@@zekiz774 no tkls are slightly bigger. I am pretty sure the 75% remove the space between the arrow keys and home buttons by running the home cluster around the arrow keys. A tad smaller and more tight together.
I use a 60% for FPS, but full size for work. I feel this is optimal for mouse space.
100% on board with Connor here, absolutely need an actual keyboard to do anything on a laptop
Not to mention it preserves the laptop keyboard. It’s a pain to repair those, but a custom mechanical keyboard’s switch is easy to fix and cheap too.
Unsure why Connor was getting flak, Joey and Garnt were wrongfully clowning on a very utility-filled hobby/aspect of tech. I’d know, I’ve been covering them for years. Custom mechanical keyboards exist basically to cater to pretty much anyone’s needs. Need a compact board to save desk space or need to tone down the volume? You can do so. Do you need a gigantic 150 button monster that sounds like a cannon? Go right ahead. It’s the same concept of smartphones. Sure, you can use a phone just for calling, but a smartphone catered to your needs elevates your experience to a higher plane of enjoyment, it’s a lot more personal. Poor Connor.
ahouldnt have assaulted the mx brown users😅
@@Xenoray1 I don’t blame Connor for the meme tbh. He admits he’s not fully in the know. It’s what an “absorbed opinion” in the community is at the moment due to people seemingly valuing earth-shattering tactility when the hobby is insanely subjective.
As someone who uses the numpad, Connor's argument sounded like it was clowning on all the numpad users. When he said the numpad is unnecessary, he meant for him but sounded like it was unnecessary for everyone.
@@kira021997 Connor begin his argument by saying numpad is a superior way to handle numbers. He even said that for him numpad is not necessary not for other..
@@kira021997 I think it's the way he said that he doesn't need the numpad that it sounds like he saying nobody needs the numpad. And TBH I was on Garnt and Joey's side initially, because I like working with Excel/Google sheets so a numpad is a must for me. Then Joey started going "Just use a game pad 5head" and I realized they're spouting nonsense.
Joey probably shouldn't have promoted his merch on the same episode that he creates the biggest clown moment of trash taste

@@Kharr There are things on clothing that’s way more edgier but no body cares.
I'm with connor on this, I would rather bring a small, portable keyboard while traveling than use a laptop keyboard at length. Ergonomics matter and my lack of RSI after 20+ years of typing and gaming is evidence of that
I genuinely don't get why Connor was getting clowned on, especially from Joey. Connor just said he wants to work more comfortably, how is that pretentious? He wasn't even making fun of Garnt and Joey prior to it. By their logic no one should bring an external mouse cause the touchpad is enough and that would be unergonomic.
I think joey thinking its "pretentious" about carrying an extra keyboard comes from the way connor phrased his side.
Connor phrased that whole idea like "hey, you, yes you, you should always carry a keyboard with you, you may never know when will you need it" and then started talking about the actual benefits, while joey simply got stuck with the first part because yes, carrying around a keyboard at all times, no matter how small or beneficial it is, it sounds tacky or exaggerated, but not pretentious like joey said.
Like I commented on the podcast, Carrying a whole extra keyboard "just because you might need it" it's like always carrying a bottle of saice on your bag, you may never know when your food wont be spicy enough for you, its going way longer than the extra mile for a problem that's either too niche or too easy to solve
And again, like I said on the podcast, joey calling the whole thing pretentious it's just joey being a bit too stupid from him
To solve the numpad issue you can get detached ones that you can put away when you dont need it
and the nice ones can double as hotkeys/macros as well 👌
@@TR-qf2gt remember the Razer Nostromo?
@@randalica92 i do not lol. will have to look that up! am more familiar with custom macropads made of acrylic or aluminum from the niche market and things like the Ducky Pocket or Keychron Q0
I've had bad experiences with their software on both windows 7 & 10.
but i do prefer numpads for my excel sheets, and my hands closer together with a smaller keyboard, for keyboard & mouse gaming.

For years, before I could afford a dedicated desktop, my laptop was a laptop only at college, and at home I would plug it into a monitor, keyboard (blue-key), speakers... The whole shebang.
I feel like a lot of the people who use computers for 1 or 2 pieces of software + youtube don't realize how important a good setup is for those of us who need to take them to the next level.
as a Laptop user as well as a mechanical keyboard user, i got mad at Joey and Garnt for the first time after watching them since 2016 lol. their past bad takes didnt get me mad, just annoyed, but this one i cant get over lol.
The guy who's eyes are locked at 30fps can't appreciate mech keyboards, shocker lol
Love the man but his tech takes are ass lmao
@@DragonEdge10 yeah true, at least now Garnt has a custom keeb built for him by SquashyBoy, and it's fucking topnotch as well, but yeah Joey's opinion about monitor refresh rates and keebs are gonna stay with me for quite a while
A proper keyboard is a game changer for both work and gaming. 75% and tkl doesn't take up that much space either. Add in a small palm rest and your wrists will thank you. Absolutely worth the small amount of space they take up on a long trip
Garnt, congratulations for your new custom keyboard.
Garnt saying how his wrists don't hurt despite writing more than Connor, good for him. Doesn't mean that Connors wrists can't be hurting from less, people are differently built believe it or not
No idea why Josh the Manga Lad is speaking when he'd play cod with arrow keys.
Conner bro, you are fighting non-gamers on a gamer only topic. The wife and I agree with you 100% lmao
Typists get it too.
I bring my 60% to the office together with my laptop.
You can't bring a 100% in a backpack, but you can bring something like a 75% cause it's shorter and actually fits in the backpack vertically now.
Do you all have super tiny backpacks? I can fit a 100% in mine with room to spare.
@@rabid_si most people have small laptop packs for the standard 15.6 inch screens. I bring a 60% board for it.
A 96% is a lot more compact as well. I would bring that if a numpad is needed.
Literally actually was getting mad at joey, have no idea how that can be pretentious
I use the laptop keyboard pretty much exclusively (I’m very veryyyyy limited on space) but I can understand Connor’s take about being able to put distance between yourself and the screen. Optimizing comfortability.
Joey one step closer being a clown for next year TT Awardw
I'm calling it now, I bet Joey and Garnt will be nominated by the listeners for clown take of the year for trying to say that carrying a mechanical keyboard is pretentious and not worth it.
@@malec8517 Who says who's setup sucks? The point of a custom mechanical keyboard is so that you can get something that suits your work preference. It's not about being pretentious and calling other people peasants just because they bought an expensive keyboard. I have small hands and can't reach certain keys well with my pinky so I get a smaller keyboard. I need NKRO for rhythm games and fighting games so I get a keyboard that has that feature. If I'm using a keyboard everyday why shouldn't I get something that suits me?
11:05 And this is how Sad Garnt memes are born. He just has a physical need to sniff or something like that, and it mades him look really sad for some reason.
Nah I agree with Connor here, a keyboard without numbers fits in a backpack, a 100% doesn't fit
Poor Connor always getting picked on by Joey and Garnt.
Bruh it's usually garnt that got the short end of the stick lol
The most heated I've ever seen these guys get and it was over keyboards lmfao I love it
Numpad keys are counted a separate keys in the HID registry, so they're actually rather useful for shortcut keys for OBS, Discord, or other apps you might have running alongside games.
That said, still prefer the numpad as a separate device so I can shove into the corner and keep it from taking up space.
P.S. Mechanical switches are nice for gaming, but capacitive dome Topre/clones are way nicer for typing. Love my ABKO keyboard.
Since I have too much programs in my laptop, I had to use an Arduino converted to MIDI processor to use OBS xD
I have that exact peripheral in the thumbnail! It's amazing
this video hits different now that Grant and Joey have their own custom keyboards and absolutely love them. Connor was right all along...
i mean you don't really lose any extra keys with a 25% & 50% Keyboards, but it really screws up your muscle memory because it changes the layout... the clowning is amazing
Yeah, I don’t think even Connor knows about VIA/QMK and the power of layers and macros…
Although I do have to say, the Pain27 is a mistake.
Love that this was clipped from the numpad. Garnt got clowned for the numpad, then Connor got clowned too. Point is you prefer to use something because you find it easy. Same with the numpad and the keyboard.
I will never go back to a full size keyboard.
this was genuinely exhausting i feel like i got punched by the guys behind my screen
Joey had a bad habit of clowning everything he doesn’t agree with.
Kinda late to this video but as a person who writes audio reviews, I totally agree with Connor here. I tend to take my keyboard with me to write and it is such an easy task thanks to being a 65% keyboard.
Honestly just use whatever size that makes sense in your everyday task, it's really not that deep of a issue lmao.
I had to revisit this, top 10 2v1s in trash taste history
Garnt and Joey are living up to the channel's namesake pretty dang hard in this one
Holy crap. The comments are all saying Joey and Garnt are wrong on this one.
I mean I agree with Connor (I build keebs for myself, friends, and family) but I'm more surprised how united the comment section is this time
The hobby has grown so much. Custom keebs really are in a golden age right now.
This is just like the xkcd where they have over 400 photos of someone eating a sandwich, and they slowly develop a system for identifying the best ones and an appreciation for them.
My reason as to why I don't use the laptop keyboard is because they don't last that long if you play games needed only keyboards. If the laptop keyboard is now janked, it is hard to repair it especially when your local area is far from the official store. Having a separate keyboard on your laptop is advantageous for laptop gamers. That is all I can say from my side and I cannot speak for the rest
Num pad is a must if you enjoy games with lots of keybinds
laptops - painful to type on, un-ergonomic, attached to the screen which creates its own "problems"
75% or smaller separate keyboard - literally gets rid of any gripes and has a smaller footprint than a laptop (but thicker in most cases)
"just bring a controller" is a wild argument
im surprised that joey and garnt has never seen anyone bring a mechanical keyboard around? i feel like i always see someone bring them at a cafe
i totally get connor's take, i bring my bluetooth keyboard which is slightly smaller than a mechanical keyboard to uni everyday. and i even have some friends that bring their mechanical keyboard.
last year my youtube was full of keyboard videos because of this one keyboard video i clicked on and i just kept going.. even got myself a mechanical keyboard
Outside of their realm of expertise (anime, manga, content creation etc) there's much that the gang don't know about.
As an accountant, numpads are essential!
Garnt will always die on the hill of doing things the most uncomfortable way possible to me haha
I'm not a gamer, but I do bring a different keyboard in my bag with my laptop. It's 75% and yeah, using my laptop keyboard is basically my completely last resort. On the rare opportunity I play a game or two while travelling/out, I keep the screen a bit away and have the keyboard right by me.
as someone who still don't really understand hobby keyboard, getting one good mechanical keyboard really boost my work productivity
It’s just about making the board even better by customizing it.
Hard to mod a stock prebuild board, but very easy on a custom. Everything can be replaced with ease and a lot of aftermarket options are available.
Maybe consider building a board yourself.
Does this mean that tech arguments are going to replace food arguments?
Connor is in the right here easilyyy, laptop keyboards are nasty to use
I’ve actually gotten pains typing on them for long durations. Especially gaming.
About the numpad, as someone who used to work as a sysadmin it's a LIFESAVER to write IP numbers.
I'm now a dev and I find it kinda useless, but it's still a great interface, my favorite one for numbers. Would love a TKL though
As some one whos deep deep into custom boards i gotta agree with connor
I use the numpad for when my keyboard keybinds are full
Connor isn’t a gamer… he’s a game man
Exactly haha
60% and 65% is the best keyboard size. Connor the Sony wh1000xm5 out already.
I also got recomended that spacebar video 😂
Now we need a keyboard episode in afterdark
Gaming laptops get freaking hot and most times depending on the heat dissipation, the laptop keyboard also gets hot. So it’s better to use separate keyboard. Makes perfect sense to me.
The number pad is also used to enter special characters (we enter the unicode number + ctrl I think)
I can also use it for shortcuts
I use the enter key on the numpad as it made mashing through splash screens easier, or allowed for some cheap mass crafting in games by just using the in game interact key, normal enter and numpad enter in quick succession to make the stuff I needed faster
I have one of the loudest mechanical keyboards available - a razer keyboard which uses their own version of the cherry reds. And fight me I love it when a keyboard is super loud and clicky and sounds like a type writer. The thunky keyboards are nice, sure. But I LOVE the sharp and loud and crisp clicks.
You don’t know shit about keyboards lmao. Cherry Reds are linear.
If you want thick clicks, throw the Razer away and get a Keychron Q1. Then put some Kalih Box Jades inside, and don’t do the force break mod on the case.
Metallic pings and thick clicks for days. Your neighbour’s neighbour will hear you type.
its all about feel and THOCK
certain applications have numpad specific default hotkeys, blender uses it to quickly change views
After watching the Squashy Boy video this is cool
One thing not mentioned here (so far) if you’re a digital artist or a 3D/CG artist having a full keyboard with numpad is extremely useful. I’ve been recently slowly learning blender and not have a numpad on my laptop (I’m a MacBook loser) is a big inconvenience and costs a lot of efficiency
Personally, I prefer 100% for the num pad although from my experience on a three year Esports course at university 60% and 70% keyboards are really handy.
In my first year I was bothered about bringing my own keyboard which is 100% and I will say it barely fit in my backpack, so in that instance I kinda wish I had a smaller keyboard; so I get both sides of the argument.
I agree with both side and they are just arguing for different points. But I for once agree with Connor especially if your going to be on a temporary setups for long periods of time.
The headphones that conner was talking about did come out. I thought about getting it but its $170 more than the xm4. So, i ended up getting those instead.
But my laptop DOES have a numpad...
I do use a TKL keyboard regardless along with it though.
As someone who uses both blender (the 3D modelling program lol) and a digital audio workstation the numpad is SO USEFUL
For video editor, that numpad is a god send even that is not enough i feel like i need another keyboard just for shortcut and stuff.i try edit video with 60 % keyboard it is a freaking nightmare
Sounds like a candidate for the Hyper7.
Garnts house must be full of sun glasses
i like how my pc's sound stopped working midway through the video , not being handle the absolute nonsense garnt and joey was talikng about.
i agree with connor here. using an external mechanical keyboard feels better for gaming and for doing work even when using a laptop
This was like a specific level to the console v pc master race argument 😂 poor Connor
Connor is just right on this one. If you are doing anything on a laptop over two hours it’s just nicer to have a different keyboard.
I feel attacked as someone with a bunch of group buys coming in
The moment when they arrive… cherish that feeling, brother.
My switches are lube, my keycaps are set, and my brushes await.
"How is a keyboard a waste of space?" After what what Connor said but for I can’t believe he said this lol
personally i use the numpad for alt codes, alt code entries onlywork on the numpad and not the top numbers
Please someone bring this up on their tour and re-ignite the fire
That separate keyboard life is just a certain lifestyle I don't live, money I don't prioritize into. To each their own.
I've been taken over by the custom mechanical keyboard hobby for a few years now. I don't think there's any hope for me left.
Just bite the bullet and buy that mechmarket OTD 356CL.
I’m a full size person (I have a G13 for gaming so I don’t bump in with my mouse, Logitech version of the thumbnail) and I still consider bringing my keyboard with me when I take my laptop, even if it barely even fits in my backpack
I use the numpad and F keys for shortcuts. F keys for programming and numpad for discord.
When I was Over the Road trucking, I had limited space aswell as no outlet that supported a full rig. I utilized my laptop with a 75% and mouse on my bunk workspace. As the laptop keyboard was liquid ass for playing any mmo. I used a controller when I could, but can't play all games with it. There are countless situations where a reduced keyboard is the choice. Hell even the Razer Tartarus was okay for most games if you needed ultra portability for w.e reason
