  • How does the Fulldive nervegear vr headset from sword art online work and can we make it in real life? How can we use sword art online vr headset similar to that of the fulldive vr technology that is what we are gonna talk about in this video. If you always wanted to full dive into the world of SAO using the vr headset like the one Kirito is using in the sword art online anime then your wait is finally over. The Full Dive future is coming closer every single day thanks to big companies like Neuralink who together with Elon Musk are trying to make brain computer interfaces that could be used for gaming. This means a VR headset with a BCI could read the signals from your brain and translate them to Virtual Reality. There are also other companies that are trying to make a nervegear headset in real life and it won't be long anymore till we can finally dive into a sword art online vr game.

    If a VR full dive like SAO actually came to reality. Wouldn't the real winners be the disabled? Since now that they can experience a new world without their disabilities. Just like that one episode at the end of S1 on the fairy server.

    @yurinamaekawa7250 Před 2 lety +164

    There are some points about the future of VRMMORPGs and how will people act around this that I want to talk about:
    Firstly, I think it's no news that if they really make a true SAO with good graphics, 100 floors, and actual Virtual Reality like in the anime... A lot of people will get addicted to it, since you are basically moving to a whole new world, exploring feelings, emotions and sensations you can't feel in real life, either due to risks, or because of being outright impossible in this world.
    Who wouldn't want to make their own life in such a big game? Who wouldn't want to experience the thrill of actual battles without risking your life (but rather your items or similar)? What about exploring a hundread landscapes, or meeting some really nice people. What about teaming together in a raid to take down a boss with your very own hands, and enjoying your time in guilds, or simply appreciate that gigantic world...
    Would be amazing, right? That's precissely why this game would explode if it was real (and assuming we don't have to sell our life to buy the game lol), and also the reason why so many people could trap themselves there and ignore the real world. There's another side to this though, while this addiction could be a bit too much, this game could also help those who feel sad about the real world, or just feel disattached from it. Some people nowadays gain a bit of hope playing games and get a bit of strength to face the real world (especially if they have friends in the game), this could have a positive impact on some people's minds (some VRMMORPGs about anime stories and role-playing could help even more, as the characters could maybe feel more real or something).
    Now, this is just one part of what I wanted to talk about, which was about how the people would see the real world compared to the fictional worlds, but...
    Just as some people want to enjoy their happiness and thrill in that world, others could use it as a tool for evil, which is something we see in the anime itself. If SAO existed, the death game feature wouldn't be there of course, but it's important to think about people who can abuse others through other means outside of killing, such as harassment, focus or diffamation. SAO could have a way to block people, but that wouldn't stop focus or diffamation, not even groupal harassment; some games might even lack a blocking system (which shouldn't happen to be honest). A lot of vulnerable people would play these games (assuming they are affordable for them), and if they have these kind of people, that might be a fatal blow for their mental health.
    The idea of VRMMORPGs that disable your body and make you control a virtual avatar is in itself quite dangerous, since laying on a bed for hours and completely still has its consequences, such as back pain, or even have some circulatory issues due to the lack of movement. There's also the challenge of disabling specifically what you want to disable, we don't want the heart to stop working and similar. Also, what about hunger, thirstiness, and going to the toilet? How would you know when you need those? Would you also feel that in the Virtual World?
    What if something fails and you can't connect back your consciousness or something? This is another topic actually, how would conscience work? Would it be possible to only move your senses, but not your consciousness? Is it necessary to move consciousness in the first place?
    Other problems concern sweat, unfortunate accidents that could happen to your body while you are in the game, etc...
    This is kinda turning into a "Why Making SAO IRL Is A Terrible Idea", and while it's not my intention since I would love to see it, I also gotta point all the stuff that concern me (although I'm not the kind of person that is super concerned about this stuff). That being said, there's one last risk...
    Hacking and Consciousness Behavior.
    Let's start with hacking.
    What if someone got access to the game's servers and introduced a virtual virus that could affect how you work, to the point of damaging or altering your IRL self, or even manipulating them if hackers reach such knowledge? It is true that console games or mobile games (multiplayer ones) are often not truly hacked, I mean, I've never seen anyone complaining about Clash Royale, Brawl Stars or Genshin Impact having an issue with cheaters (although this last one had issues of hacked accounts due to a not-really-nice security, in the past at least), but it is also true that VRMMORPGs would be such big news for the world that even non-gamers would try to do stuff with the software.
    I don't know if there's an ultimate way to get rid of this stuff quickly enough to not let other people alter your mind or look at your memories (if that was even possible), perhaps some kind of quantum stuff added to it could help, maybe stuff like Qubits & similar.
    About consciousness... This is quite an interesting topic actually, how would consciousness behave if it was moved or copied? Our brains "diggest" the info from our senses and gives them a meaning, but what happens if there was a clone of yourself 100% identical to you in every single aspect of anything and everything? Not 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999%, no, I mean actual 100%, in that scenario, what would happen to consciousness? Would each of the two share the same consciousness? Does that mean you could see from two points of view at once no matter how far away they are? If the consciousness isn't shared, then why is it? Since we assume there's 0% differences. Perhaps there's a scientific law in this world that prevents something from being 100% identical even in the most crazy-luck situations? Or perhaps it would work like the spin of atomic particles? (From what I understand, if one particle has "Up" spin so to speak, its "partner" must be "Down", but which one is which is not determined until you observe it. These two particles could be in different Galactic Superclusters, yet defining one would automatically define the other, with nothing in-between moving to update the other particle, so perhaps double consciousness could follow a similar principle of not needing a physical link to work...)
    This is all I had to say, I don't know if anyone will read this Raid Boss-like horrific and tremendous text, but at least I'm happy I talked about it hehe~~

And i get the points you are making and the questions you are asking. I gues with all new technology we dont know yet how it will effect us until it is actually there but i also think no matter what there is no way we can avoid it from happening that being said it can help a lot of people aswel especially in the medical field think about blind people being able to see again or people that couldn't walk before now going for a run. @@VRelity Actually this is something I didn't think about and I'm glad you pointed it out. Allowing people to temporarily regain their lost senses (such as vision or sound perception) could be amazing. If this VR thingie was possible without invasive chips and stuff, you could basically allow a lot of blind-since-birth and similar people to not miss on the world's beauty and be able to see like anyone else does. People who can't see colors that suddenly are able to through different means get really excited (to the point of crying) when they are able to see what was unseeable for them, it could be a way to face some of the physical issues and problems nature gave us.
      That would be truly amazing...

    I can’t wait for BCI VR (Brain Computer Interface VR) to be a reality soon. Currently on baby steps in BCI but will reach it soon. Also, EEG is not a viable option, I wanted to correct you that EEG is also a BCI technology but will never be able to read everything and write anything at all. It can only ready a few minor signals and can’t execute complex signals. EEG has been dismissed by ex CEO of Neuralink Max Hodak and many working in these fields as it is not even a viable read option. There are no non invasive technologies in existence that can read high bandwidth signals. Only invasive atm.
    Options like Electromagnetic nanobots/nanotransducers, chips like Neuralink, Optogenetics will be able to achieve this after many iterations as they are on the baby steps now. Also, Optogenetics and Nanotransducers won’t even need brain surgery at all just need to inject it into the blood stream. It’s a huge topic but I hope I mentioned and corrected everything I need to in brief.

    VRMMOs (not just Sword Art Online, but also ones like Alfheim Online and Gun Gale Online) are actually quite interesting, technology-wise. But one of the most interesting parts is the FullDive system. The NerveGear (or NERvGear, however it's written) listens for the user to say "Link Start", which is very similar to products like Amazon Alexa, Siri, Cortana, and others. What happens next is most likely that the NERvGear initiates some software process that tells the user's brain to fall asleep. *Everything that happens after is a dream.* The way I look at it is, it's basically like lucid dreaming. With lucid dreaming, the dreamer knows that he/she is dreaming and "wakes up" inside the dream. It's kinda similar to using the FullDive system.
    But going back to VRMMOs. The user is dreaming but is playing an online game with hundreds or thousands of other players. That's the part that I still haven't really understood.

    My main question with this is how exactly the headset would read the brainwaves but also at the same time disable you from moving in real life, since we physically move semi-subconsciously (e.g. we don't consciously go through the process of telling our bodies to move, we simply will ourselves to and our brain takes up the rest of the work automatically.)
    Another worry I have is organ functionality as well, the brain is what tells the body how to function as well...
    A thought just occurred as I'm writing this but do "subconscious" and "conscious" brain waves/signals have different strength in outputs? If so then that could possibly simplify things but I'm not sure

    • @VRelity
      @VRelity  Před 2 lety

    a massive hurdle will be to prevent motion sickness. the brain is extremely powerful and not easy to trick without repercussions. you can trick the mind but it will always notice something wrong and when it gets confused it causes things like nausea. the big thing is when you move and turn in vr, if your body can't sense you moving in the real world it will get mixed signals causing nausea or dizziness. i don't see an easy way to fix it because your body detects movement and orientation with liquid in your ear and if you were to try a physical approach to tricking it and you damage it you could be left with vertigo for the rest of your life.

    with the haptic gloves and sensory suits to go with VR headsets, full dive-esqe is very possible. the problem usually comes down to cost, making it affordable for everyone. just imagine an entire VR kit(headset, haptic gloves+suit) for maybe about $175 and with free system upgrades, could be more cost effective for everyone to experience VR to its fullest. another problem is the game and the politics that go with it, in reference to what type of VR game to be created(open world, 1st person, etc), the level of violence(or sexual situations), and ultimately, what age will these games be promoted to? despite some of these issues, i would try full dive in a heartbeat!

      i get your point and you make some great questions i think personally the only cost problem will become the haptic suits. however i think the vr headsets right now are already getting cheaper every day and if they switch controllers for gloves you are already very much into the game so maybe just a base set with gloves and the headset that includes an EEG for a low price should be possible in the near future. als who is your favorite sword art online character?

In sao, you are fully immersed into the game and it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between the game and reality. When I thought about it like that, I thought, hey that kind of sounds like a dream. I mean, people are able to lucid dream, so if we were able to replicate that with data, then we would essentially have a similar version of sao. Isn't data storage a big hurdle to cross for the development of a close-to-realistic level of graphics? The amount of data that needs to be stored and read in order to create an environment that's only as small as a house would be astronomical if it was supposed to be even close to reality... I mean, how much do you think you'd enjoy a world whose resolution *isn't* at a full 4k with incredibly detailed 3D models? And for the case of SAO, specifically Aincrad, which is said to be 100 floors each being 10 km in diameter... That's an INSANELY large map
    Or maybe I'm wrong with my assumption that a realistic 3D world would be for the best... maybe it would be better to have some way to discern full dive VR from actual reality... I'm honestly quite curious about people's opinions regarding this matter...

    What about an ear piece. The ear is almost a direct shot to the brain and is designed to intake external signals. Unlike the nose which takes in physical matter and translates it to a signal, the ear is designed to translate vibrations into a a signal. Electro sensory input that measures less then whatever 50-60 decibels of sound translates to joules shouldn’t cause anymore damage then headphones could but for an entirely lucid dream experience in a video game. Meaning we could dedicate sleep to this activity and still feel rested physically.

    Full dive 20 years at least it won't happen sooner EEG ain't good enough been looking at what people were doing with none invasive BCI's. You can type very slowly for input until there is paralyzed person playing the Esport game with their hands using BCI it won't get close enough to enable full-body motion. The closest possible thing that could work would be a full-body vr suit that gives haptic feedback and using EMG we could read muscle data instead of brain data. It's the same data will need for it but it's much easier to read and we could potentially write signals to muscles so you can move in the game while not moving IRL. And headset would give visuals and audio we probably can't do better than that but who knows. I'm just a high school student
