Lucid dreams are like virtual reality. They are more than just being awake in your dreams. If you keep practicing you'll eventually get to a point where you can control the direction the dream goes. Create your own world. Any thing is possible
I read one Chinese novel and the main character was so genius and in one part of his research he make a Deep Dive VR, and the concept was to program and manage our lucid dream, so instead make a 3D model, Texturing aset etc.. The DDVR he created try to make standard instructions set that translate and record what our memories are perceived. Just like instructions set computer has that translate 0 and 1. So the DDVR he created was kinda programed Dream, its so cool.
Recently I went I to VR while high off my ass and the feeling was SUPER similar to when I’ve been in a lucid dream. The difference being with VR there isn’t as much control but there isn’t a risk of waking up.
Full dive vr could work by utilizing dreams like you go to rem sleep and the device controls dreams and stuff and the actions you do in the dreams are processed and stuff
I am not concerned about people preferring a virtual reality. Physical necessities will always exist, and it could help this world to improve in the long run due to there being far less of a strain on resources and likely a far lower rate of reproduction. Plus, it is going to help many people who do not like this current reality or who love a fictional character, so it is not fully selfish to want this to happen. It would be better if people did not feel the need to escape, but we need to actually help make that the case rather than just expecting them to be content with living a life they dislike.

I could imagine companies not wanting to risk legal troubles of people accidently dying of starvation or dehydration in their full dive products and do something like a timer to remind you every so often to take a break and feed yourself.
I’ve wanted this to happen for a long time, I’m hoping in the next like 30-40 years. I also kind of want to do it myself, like go into neuroscience and learn CS also and try to get this level of technological innovation through some sort of funded academia program or something

I absolutely love the Idea of full dive VR and even implementing aspects of our current society into VR such as jobs, and I do realize there would be downsides to it especially health wise. One thing I failed to think about that you mentioned is the collapse of society as we know it. If everyone is in VR, who will keep the servers running, who will keep the infrastructure maintained, will there be less of a demand to travel to different countries? Its stuff like this that really makes you think about ideas such as this. But I also think that with Ideas that can have catastrophic downsides, it is extremely important to put the proper precautions in place even if it takes a long time. For something like this It needs to be that way to prevent the very catastrophes that it can very well cause. As Uncle Ben once said, "With great power comes great responsibility.". I seriously hope this or something similar like affordable, accurate haptic suits come out in my lifetime because god I would love to experience something like this.
Now that I know it is theoretically possible and the field is Brain Computer Interface. I really want to pursue it. Not talking about it blindly lol, I consulted with my professors and many people in the community. They mostly had the same opinion that “it is possible” but, the timeframes most shared were different. 15-20 years later (from 2020) was the most common answer. I’m currently studying AI and BCI.

I believe that the best way to experience a somewhat immersive and fulldive VR experience is to work on the technologies that allow you to feel everything while still being awake in the current living world and they have the technology for that such as muscle sensors, those muscle sensors can be used in a perfect combination along with for example omnidirectional treadmill
That would actually be pretty good, some way that you're deep in the game, but that if someone is trying to get you're attention they could. perhaps there is a call button next to the headset, so when someone walks in they push the button and it acts like a phone in the game, a call screen pops up and the 2 of you talk, and if you need to, you can pause or log off the game to talk with them IRL.
It's not selfish.. you just want to chooce what you make you happy or enjoy yourself😊 and I think lot of people want full dive games so your not the only one who's being selfish

For me what's scary to think about is the R/D development especially if the full dive would involve a distortion of time passing. I like to think of this creepypasta I read once that describes being on this drug that slows down the perception of time except it was still in experimental phase and caused the person in the creepypasta to feel like entire centuries were passing by except in reality it was only a second. The person in the creepypasta would beg for death to be released from that perceived eternal nightmare. Even if he was given an antidote that took away the effects the time it took to administer it would have been felt millions of years in the victims mind. When they came out there would just be nothing. They would have died from the shock regardless of antidote or not. Imagine if that was reproducible with just a headset that you can put on and take off someone? That's scary. Lol
There's only one thing that this VR full dive stuff will never be able to do that you can do in real life and that is taking a nice dump... and if they want to duplicate that in VR I'll totally skip out... I'm down for full immersion but not full dives..I like the earth and elements
Yeah people tend to overlook the implications that such a technology would have on human civilisation as a whole. All they think about is the ability to be able to engage in any fantasy their heart desires. Something like Ready Player One isn't what we're talking about here as that's not real deep dive. What we are talking about is having the technology to literally change the way your brain functions thus creating a world which for all intents and purposes, is no less real than the world we think is real and without us even moving. If this technology becomes a reality, it will be the 22nd century at the earliest. We are talking about a world that people today wouldn't recognize. By that time, if we have developed that kind of technology, we'd have most likely developed the ability to be able to clone life and will be cloning different types of people for the various roles needed for that future civilisation. Why would you wish to date real people/have real romantic relationships and all the stress that comes with that when you can do that in another reality and have everything the way you want it? Wish to be be a dictator/criminal? You can do it in another reality without hurting anyone and risking the consequences of your actions. This technology has the ability to completely remove issues like crime, hate, war etc so there is the potential for it to be a mega step on the evolution of humanity for the good but it some of it would be scary if looking at it via today's paradigm e.g. the way we relate to other human and the human species itself
Well I don’t see that as a problem you see by the time we can do all that and have the technology to create a virtual world where we only use or brain to move and do complex things it means we have the technology to control feelings of the brain directly (which is scary) depression and other emotions can be cured or changed by simply making programs to make the brain overcome difficult emotions like test, at that point we are not simply humans anymore literally we would have to be half ai at some point to do all that, the future holds a lot of danger for humans 😅 ai and other technology’s are advancing faster than what we can control (just see how much technology has advanced in the last 50 years is freaking scary but amazing)

If this technology becomes a reality, it will be the 22nd century at the earliest. We are talking about a world that people today wouldn't recognize. By that time, if we have developed that kind of technology, we'd have most likely developed the ability to be able to clone life and will be cloning different types of people for the various roles needed for that future civilisation.
Why would you wish to date real people/have real romantic relationships and all the stress that comes with that when you can do that in another reality and have everything the way you want it? Wish to be be a dictator/criminal? You can do it in another reality without hurting anyone and risking the consequences of your actions. This technology has the ability to completely remove issues like crime, hate, war etc so there is the potential for it to be a mega step on the evolution of humanity for the good but it some of it would be scary if looking at it via today's paradigm e.g. the way we relate to other human and the human species itself

Well I don’t see that as a problem you see by the time we can do all that and have the technology to create a virtual world where we only use or brain to move and do complex things it means we have the technology to control feelings of the brain directly (which is scary) depression and other emotions can be cured or changed by simply making programs to make the brain overcome difficult emotions like test, at that point we are not simply humans anymore literally we would have to be half ai at some point to do all that, the future holds a lot of danger for humans 😅 ai and other technology’s are advancing faster than what we can control (just see how much technology has advanced in the last 50 years is freaking scary but amazing)

Sheesh! ~ Even now humanity's existing new generation is devolving. Most young adults of the new generation these days don't like to work hard. They keep relying on their parents even on the most simplest things they don't even know how to use like a can opener.
Young people these days keep focussing social medias on their phones. Don't think about this thing will ever even exist because it will never happen considering the quality of people from generation after generation keeps on deteriorating.
With the new generation existing now. Humanity's technological advancement is doomed to fail and so does our future and so as probability of survival in the future struggles to come. 🤷 Not that I'd be still alive by then so I don't really care but that's not the case for these young guns today who even complains being part of a production class of the society.
