    For me, Betrayal Legacy also has one big thing that puts it above other Legacy games:
    After you're done with the campaign, you still have a playable version of Betrayal
    However, it is a version that is entirely unique due to your campaign and the things that happen there. That's something special

    • @TheRatedOniChannel
      @TheRatedOniChannel Před 3 lety +4

      And considering all the options for being a monster/alien/assassin/ghost and who knows what else, replayability is not a problem in that front.

      Agreed. I love all of the Betrayal variants, and Legacy was a blast to play. My group may be one of the few out there who played a perfect game (as in, aside from when they couldn't, all of the haunts were won by the heroes. Yes, ALL of them, and it was legit, too). Not to put him on the spot, but there was one part in the game that had such a huge twist, my roommate actually had a minor panic attack from the stress and anticipation of it all, it was THAT intense of an experience.

      Charterstone does this thing, you have a worker placement legacy game at the end of it a unique worker placement that no one else will have the same. Did it the year before Betrayal.

    Betrayal Legacy is just amazing. And the best part is that, once it is done, you have your own unique but entirely playable/replayable version of Betrayal. Depending on the path you took, some items/rooms/omens will not be in your version. And some of the ones that are in there will be different; without spoiling too much, you will end up with your own unique network of secret passages as just one example.

      Go to a game store(places that have Friday night magic for example), talk to people, there's people who tend to meet up the same days of the week and build relationships from there.

      Board game retreat anyone? 😊 But, yeah, with these lockdowns, makes creating board game groups even more difficult than before! Outside of restrictions, I have found that going to clubs and cafes are the best way to meet other players. If none in your area, it’s easy to start one. Find a bar or cafe with appropriate lighting and tables and ask the owner for their quietest period. Generally happy to then advertise for you in their window.

    Great video, thank you for making it.
    I love legacy games. We have finished Gloomhaven (and Forgotten Circles & Jaws of the Lion). In a different group we completed Pandemic Season 1 and got halfway through Aeon's End Legacy, but the Pandemic killed that play through, and I doubt any of us are keen enough to pick this up again. Instead, we are looking at Betrayal Legacy, both after this and the 5 Games 4 Doomsday review of it. Kings Dilemma is on my wish list for the next big purchase once I have played through some games on my shelf of shame.
    Anyway. Thank you again, great video.

    Useful Gloomhaven tips......
    Get an expanding file to (alphabetically) store the room boards
    Get the box insert trays
    Those two will make set up & break down much easier....though it'll still take a few minutes
    Get the App's....all 3 of them.
    One tracks the overall campaign, what scenarios are unlocked, town prosperity, characters levels & equipment, achievments etc
    One does the scenario set up, lists map boards, monster types in the scenario and how many / placement etc
    Last one allows you to enter player turn order and then generates the monsters actions, allows you to track hit points, conditions, shows you trap damage, coin value etc

    • @conedx
      @conedx Před 3 lety

      using that file thing + plano boxes cut my set up time nearly in half, though it still feels like it takes forever.
      i haven't got around to the apps yet, though. i kinda like the feel of doing everything on the table even though it makes everything slower.
      god, i love this game. and also absolutely hate it at the same time. the gameplay is amazing. everything else feels like work. >_

    • @diceman199
      @diceman199 Před 3 lety

      @@conedx The app's will reduce set up time a little more and auto balance the number / level of monsters according to your party. I've found it keep's the balance really well so each game could be lost if you're not on the ball.
      They will also reduce your "paperwork" while playing as they track attacks, initiative order, HP's, attack modifier draws for the monsters.
      Keep the player stuff on the table so everybody is tracking their health, XP, item usage etc and let the apps look after the critters.
      It's a great game alright.....with all the social distancing i'm playing it on steam even though they have yet to release the full campaign on there.

    Had a regular, standing "Risk: Legacy" game for awhile years ago, and I cannot tell you the mad fervor that suddenly sprung up when, just sort of checking out the box's construction, I discovered a little envelope that simply read: "NEVER OPEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE."
    We were already 7 games in and none of us had found it. It sat in all our consciousnesses for weeks afterward, we'd randomly bring up in quiet moments, 'What do you think is in the envelope?' and during games we debated whether to open it, when to open it, what could POSSIBLY be contained within. And we were not disappointed.

    I've knocked over Pandemic Season 1, half of 2, Charterstone and Scythe's legacy campaign 'Age of Fenris'. The Pandemics are easily my favourite (weird sentence but okay) because the cooperative nature meant that everyone at the table had a good time whereas the competitive games left at least one player behind in not really having fun. It was interesting as there were two games of Charterstone happening relatively simultaneously through our group and what was a really strong combination in one game simply didn't work in the other. It also had a catch up mechanic that I absolutely hated because it didn't really scale for how far someone was behind. I'm guess I'm saying Charterstone's weird but I still have a second copy waiting to be played. Legacy games are great.

    gloomhaven is an absolute overwhelming colossus of a game. it's ridiculous. the gameplay is frickin' amazing. i love it so much. the set up/tear down? not so much. i've got everything sorted in a way it only takes 10ish minutes to set up but still. ugh. i'm happy i bought it. it's a game i'll be playing for the next decade but jesus. it's just SO MUCH. the biggest selling point for me was i can play it solo. i don't have anyone to regularly play games with (maybe once or twice a month i have someone) so being able to play a giant legacy game alone was huge for me. some day i'll actually unlock a new character, cause i haven't even got that far yet.

    Seafall, Kingdom Death Monster, and Sythe Legacy are definitely at least honorable mentions for this list. Though I could see KDM being ousted as potentially not a legacy game per say as it is designed to be replayed in its essence I still look at it as a legacy game. Sythe legacy is in my opinion the best legacy game of all time. It takes the incredible base version of Sythe and adds all the campaign box opening fun of legacy games. Played it in full twice and definitely would do it again! But in the end I respect your opinion Adam, you are great, and ty for all your content! I have played and completed so many of these on this list. For me, legacy games are the absolute best. My quick rundown and order of that I played:
    Machi Koro Legacy: Just wasn't for us. To be fair we played this after playing some of the other legacy games so it was just too simple and boring for what we wanted.
    Pandemic Legacy:Fun but relentless, constantly got our asses kicked. Second ever Legacy played and first ever co-op style game.
    Risk Legacy: The game that sucked me in. While fun it really showed off everyome's gaming skill level and style in ways that was unexpected. I won 10 of 15 games and each win was less fun as my friends were just getting lost and left behind.
    Charterstone: Absolute blast, fun, whimsical. East enough for everyone to grasp and jump right into. Best of all the 2nd side to replay it over, absolute genius.
    My City: This was the best game to have for the pandemic for my wife and I to play. It was everything we could have hoped for and that we could play through a second time was a nice bonus. Quick setup and pkay to where we could sneak a game in after kids go to bed before we do and wind down. Could not ask for more.
    Betrayal Legacy: There aren't words to describe how enjoyable this is. Now that pandemic is winding down and my friends and I have vaccines, we immediately jumped back into this and picked up where we left off. This is everything you want in a game and as Adam said the people make it so much better.
    That's where I sit with legacy games. I have Pandemic season 2, Seafall and King's Dilemma waiting in the wings and cannot wait to see what mysteries and treasures await in them.

    After finishing gloomhaven I would put it way lower it starts a lot of cool stuff and finishes none of it. Me and the GF were really disappointed with it. Jaws was better but also was flawed. Now Betrayal legacy deserves its top spot that thing is a masterpiece. Played it fully once and started it again a month before covid happened. Also played through Seafall it had some great moments but the gameplay is repetitive and the person in the lead just stays there since there isn't really a catch up mechanic.

      Then don't. Buy the reusable stickers and don't rip up the cards that tell you to. Just because these games are DESIGNED to only be played once, doesn't mean you HAVE to. These games USUALLY (eventually) have accessories available to make the game replayable.
