      0:15 - Hey Adam, Star Wars Risk is actually based on Star Wars: Queen’s Gambit, NOT Risk. It’s actually a good game (not quite as good as Queen’s Gambit) where your are fighting battles on three fronts. It’s based on the end of Return of the Jedi and you need to finish the battle on Endor to bring down the Death Star shield and finish Luke’s duel with Vader and get him off the Death Star before you blow it up with the Falcon and your space fleet! The thing just slapped on it is not the Star Wars theme, but the Risk title. :)

    I'd also recommend Die Hard the board game. One person is playing as John McClane who's goal is to kill Hans Gruber and everyone else is on team Thieves. They win either when they kill John McClane or they break through all the locks and rob the vault, which is honestly more likely to happen than killing McClane. It's a cool game thats played out in 3 acts, where it gets more tense with each act, and it's faithful to the movie (aside from the fact that in the movie the thieves did break into the vault but lost anyway). Also the last handful of games I've played have been extremely close where the other team would have won on the very next turn so it seems pretty balanced. I honestly think it's a better game than Jaws which is another multi-act 1 vs everyone else game but they're different enough that you can like them both.

    That "get off my Kwizatz Hader-back" is the sort of very silly nerd pun, dryly delivered, that I come to this channel for as much as the board game discussion/lists.
    I'd say my favourite film-based-ish game is the Milton Bradley Jurassic Park game, entirely due to fond memories of 9-year-old dinosaur-obsessed me playing it so much with my family & friends. It isn't perfect - the board is rather ridiculously huge for a 4-player game, and it's a bit lame that the dinosaurs only "pin down" rather than kill people - but the mechanics were fine & the art/minis/extras like the ID cards were lovely. There are better JP games, & ones that are available to buy now, but this one has a special place in my Dino nerd heart.

    Star Wars Rebellion reminds me quite a bit of the PC game of the same name from the late '90s. So many similar mechanics, yet the board game actually follows through on the concept of the different strategies of the two sides as opposed to the PC game where, before too long, the strategies pretty much become the same.

    Thank you for restricting your review to games one can actually purchase. It can be quite frustrating to see a Top 10 list only to find out that most of the games are long out of print, and the reviewer did not tell you that. This is especially so for people who are just getting into the hobby. I always appreciate it when the person or people compiling the list make a comment on a game's availability. Great, funny review BTW. My son and I both enjoyed it thoroughly. This was the first one we watched of your channel, and we subscribed immediately. Have watched a few others as well. Looking forward to continuing to follow you all!

Back to the future is indeed quite hard so we play it with the heart tracker starting on 5 instead of zero to give us a better chance. With aliens; I found the rule book a bit vague so I had to watch a CZcams video for clarification but once I knew how it worked I really liked it so I bought the expansions and painted all the models too

But you showed a brief image in this video of my all time favorite licensed board game, although it's based off of a TV show and not a movie, and that is Firefly. Perfectly encapsulates the feel of the show, while providing an incredibly deep competitive experience of being a true space smuggler. Han Solo eat your heart out.

I do want to say that the Star Wars Risk you showed at the beginning is actually a pretty damn good game in its own right. It's Risk in name only. Its a good encapsulation of all aspects of the battle of Endor that is a hell of a great two player duel.

    This is probably going to be seen as blasphemy to many but if you see Star Wars Risk-: Original Trilogy I highly recommend it. It has three teams that each have different win conditions. The Empire must wipe the rebel team from the map however, at the start of each turn the Empire must place an imperial base token on the board If the rebels capture the token that has the emperor on the bottom they win. The third team of Hutt criminals must capture planets that produce spice if they get ten of them they win. The balance is superb and despite being Risk it feels so much more interesting than many games I play with a three way tug of war that will often cause players to put aside their own plans to stop another from winning

    Star Wars Risk is actually a good and thematic game. It is a simplification of the Star Wars Queen's Gambit system, so as an example it undermines the completely correct point you're trying to make.

    does the new release of dune still require six players to play?

    • @joshfrantz1263
      @joshfrantz1263 Před 3 lety

      No. However, there is a hierarchy of factions that should be used with lower player counts. I missed that part in the rules, and we made the mistake of just randomizing factions with 4p... It was bad. There is phase of the game that involves bidding on cards, but the twist is one faction knows what the card is and nobody else does. Well we didn't have that faction and so that whole phase was just blind luck.
