Thank you for watching! And thank you for all your comments, I love making videos for you all!
If you're new to Actualol, my name is Jon Purkis. My two passions are writing comedy and playing board games, so I decided to combine the two in this CZcams channel.
I make all my videos on my own, in my flat in London, UK, with the help of a diverse selection of wigs.

FANTASTIC list, even if it only overlapped one on mine (On Tour). But I don't disagree with any of these (other than the fact that several of them are less than ideal at 2p) :)
Thanks Richard 🙂 You're right, the only games on this list I would choose to play with two are Second Chance and On Tour.
Off to catch up on your February round up so I can remain clued up on upcoming games 😎
Thanks for the Sushi Roll love! And we've heeded your warning about the expansion!
Excellent. :)
You better! 😈
Sweet!
Yes please!! Great game but it really needs more variety.
I am amazed just how many jokes you can fit in such a short time, all while being informative. I love your channel.
Thank you :) I tried to beat my own record this time on jokes per minute!
This is easily one of the best board game channels on CZcams. Thank you for your amazing content. Your summaries capture the entirety of the game without being lengthy. Your board game list videos are the only ones I don’t find myself skipping through just to see the picks. Thank you.
Ok, picking up sushi dice, that looks effing great.
Parks is brilliant, it's like Tokaido, but an actual game :)
I love kitchen rush, so Rush MD looks a good one too.
Neat list, and I love that its different. Keep being you :)
Your quips are what make your videos great. I feel like your recent videos have gone away from that, but this video is back to form.
I agree that it's my USP. It is my dream to make all my videos to this standard, but it takes much, much longer and the channel goes quiet for a long time whilst I make it. Which means I understandably lose patrons, and get less ad money. It's tough to find the right balance.
I bet Anthony will never forget his keys ever again. Of the ten, I've played Sushi Roll, Second Chance, and Parks; I enjoy them all. You characterized Second Chance perfectly - it's been a great game to unwind with (that and a glass of wine). I'm especially intrigued by Age of Dirt. So many games! Thank you for the video.
John you're getting better and better! Love to see it
Fantastic video! I'm thinking King's Dilemma must be the next addition to my collection. I LOVE your idea of making a PTA version. That sounds so fun!
Thanks for these videos, Jon!
Can that be the first time someone's strung together Uwe's oeuvre over? Well played, sir. Well played.
Loved the vid., thank you! Entertaining, humorous, witty and featured some great games, a couple of which I really want to buy now. Thanks again!
What if one of your friends dies, or worse has kids? Lol as a board gamer with kids this was absolutely true and hilarious
I’m a gamer with kids...really puts a damper on game time wise
Great list and video, Jon.
Great list of games for 2019 (and great writing, as usual). I had a feeling that Clank! Legacy would be on there considering your review a few years back. I absolutely love Clank! (and the expansions) and can't wait to give Legacy a go! Parks is also a beautiful game where I wish every parks card was a print on my wall. Age of Dirt looks like a fun casual group game that definitely flew under the radar. I'll keep an eye on that. Still kicking myself for not getting King's Dilemma when I happened to see it on sale for $50 back in October...
Solid List Buddy! You brought Age of Dirt to my attention! Looks like the silly kind of fun I look for in a board game! :D
BTW, loved The Distancing Social with you and Serena. Thanks for doing that!
I'm so excited for whatever they have next for the Dilemma universe. They got it branded as the "Dilemma Deck System" and I will instantly buy whatever comes next. This was my first legacy/storytelling game. Are there any other games that immerse you in the story just as much as this did?
Not quite. Story-wise I enjoy This War of Mine, Robinson Crusoe (lighter on story), and any crime solving game. But none of them are on the level of Kings Dilemma for full immersion.
Agreed about Let's Make a Bus Route. I love it so much, I paid top-dollar for dented copy from the BGG store a couple years ago.
Thanks for the list!
Great list!!! I was surprised to not see either Res Arcana or Pax Pamir 2e! But still. I’m most excited for The Kings Dilemma which I have in the mail rn!!!
This is a great list. Cycle of Prophecy will soon be in your next top 10 list. My scoop for the day. Cheers.
Suddenly I look forward to Kings Dilemma quite a bit :) Box is still unopened on my shelf.
You're lucky to have a copy before it sold out!
Nice top, added some games to wishlish! Thank you!
Great video
Just bought sushi roll based on this recc, thanks!
Thanks for the video Jon, really enjoyed that. As a fellow Tim Fowers fan, I’d be interested to know if you’ve played Sabotage and what you thought of it. It was my favourite game of 2019 because it is so unique and created some amazing stand up moments. It’s different to his other games though and definitely not for everyone.
"If Uwe's ouvre is over..."
WELL DONE
Well I guess I need to give kings dilemma a go then 😂
Queen's Dilemma is here already! Good prediction :D
Great vid, love your cheeky humour! BTW, this the first vid of yours I've watched, and it made me subscribe! Also going to check out King's Dilemma if I can get my hands on it...
Thanks for subscribing, welcome aboard! 🙂
I think you win for most laughs in a single review with this one. Bonus points for so many understated jokes I'm betting half your audience doesn't get. I'm ashamed to admit, given the wealth of clever jokes, I laughed longest at Potatoville.
Researching:
Age of Dirt
Rush MD
On Tour
Thank you!!!
I talk about On Tour even more in this video: czcams.com/video/iyOHR6Kfe90/video.html
nice shoutout to sherlock holmes consulting detective.. love that game, everybody should play it.
Great list! Suprised and happy to see some love for Lets make a bus route! :D
Some games on your list ive been on the fence but I think il give them a try, keep it up!
And one question I have Clank in space love the game, thinking of selling and starting with legacy, does that make any sence? :)
“Incu-bus”. Nice! Missed that the first time I watched this video.
Given your taste in games I can absolutely recommend "We're Doomed". It's a timed semi-coop partygame, based on the prisoner's dilemma. or phrased less technically: Its ridiculous, the event cards are deeply unfair, people start nuking the other players, bags with tokens get passed on frantically across the table and in 15 minutes its over. highly recommended.
Thanks for the tip. I did have my eye on it but haven't been able to get a copy. I will try a bit harder.
very entertaining, ever thought about reviewing some GMT games?
So you like roll and writes, eh? Did you happen to try Bloom? Another Gamewright game from 2019. My wife loves it, so that makes me automatically love it too. One of the few games she’ll actually ask to play.
I might have to consider checking out On Tour...
Wooow, Secret Hitler came off the shelf.
Your description of the games makes me want to play them now. I've been eyeing some of them for a while now.
Do you use a teleprompter?
The good thing about having kids is we have a built in game group for a legacy game. Got this one but haven’t played it yet. 3 hrs! Yikes. May have to wait til we get quarantined for 17 days...
Thanks for uploading this. Nice video, half the jokes (the ones I did get) made me laugh ♪.
How would you compare Legacy of Dragonholt to The King's Dilemma, in terms of story writing quality? Won't buy it, it needs 5 humans, but great idea.
nuuuuu i just found a copy of kitchen rush in my city (its not a common game in canadaland) and to know theres an even better version ...v.v *sigh* Also fantastic video as always!
😫😫 trying so hard to get kings dilemma to the table!! And I’m the one that had the baby 😂😂 it’s so hard to organise legacy groups
Is the King's Dilemma a one off game or can be played multiple times?
I’m fully sold on all these games except for Parks because I already played it, but especially The King’s Dilemma. Other games Actualol’s sold me on that I’ve purchased are below - some are (only) covered in his ‘My Collection’ series from two years ago.
1. Celestia
2. High Society
3. Skull King
4. Pictomania
5. Qwinto
6. New York Slice
7. ARGH
8. Cyrano
9. Loony Quest
10. Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama
11. 6Nmmt
12. The Networks
13. Igloo Pop
14. Nuns on the Run
15. Watson & Holmes
16. Hide & Speak (forgot to add this to the party game list)
17. Beyond Baker Street
18. Second Chance
This list would be a lot longer except that some games are just very hard to find.
And it’s not just me who’s bought these games. After playing my copy, I’ve had friends who’ve gotten their own:
• two got their own copies of Celestia (and both expansions) after just one play
• two got Blurble
• I’ve lost track of how many have gotten Skull King, maybe a dozen.
• one got Unusual Suspects
• two got Duplik/Identik
• two got Happy Salmon
You’re impact is probably reaching further than you realize, Jon.
Keep pumping out the videos.
Re: Age of Dirt, is this the first game since Wallenstein/Shogun to use a meeple tower like that?
Prospectus, and it's really good
I cannot find On Mars on your list
I don't enjoy heavy euro games, I don't play board games for those types of experiences. I cater to a different style of gamer than other board game CZcamsrs.
@@actualol I was kidding :P I know that and thats why you have me as a subscriber :)
@@DerRentner818 Oops! The closest I get to On Mars is "Magic Maze on Mars", which didn't quite make the list!
@@actualol Seconded. I actually bought Las Vegas Royale thanks to your review. None of the gamers in my city knew about it probably due to being overwhelmed by the other heavy Euro games. All of my family members, friends and even the gamer men who were obsessed with placing their workers to eternity loved the game. Therefore, thank you for being a delightful extrovert party gamer, we definitely needed one.
Bravo puns this time!
King’s dilemma: reskin as HOA Suburbia.
I'd buy it!
“More than once, I’ve ignored my goals for the sake of the greater good.”
The Greater Good!
Crusty jugglers.
A great, big, bushy beard!
I beg your pardon, “let’s do the time warp again,” is a very exciting proposition
going to pick my sushi roll and ready to play with kids
Since it's sold out everywhere online right now I don't think we have to worry about The King's Dilemma being too risky anymore...
Yeah, that's the Shut Up and Sit Down effect 😁
I really enjoyed this - and have ordered 2 new (to me) games as a result! My wallet doesnt thank you, but I do :D
🙂🙂
No Wingspan? How?
Do you still play Kings dilemma? I've watched a lot of your more recent videos and don't think I've heard you mention it since.
One member of our group moved away during the pandemic, so we haven't been able to go back to it. One day!
The analogies you use are... interesting?
Flip n Fill.
Lets make a bus route is 2018
Lol I was really thinking about either buying another Star Wars game or King's dillemma, the thing is, I am scared of Legacy games...
😂😂
Great list! Currently playing both Clank Legacy and Kings Dilemma. Both superb. One thing that stands out for between these is that even though I’m only 2 games into Clank I know I will have an excellent game to keep playing at the end of it. I’d like to see the Dilemma system innovate further with a game that can be played at the end of a campaign. While it might not make sense in the games current context, who knows what future iterations might come up with? I just don’t feel comfortable throwing a game this big in the bin.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Legacy games can feel very wasteful. I guess they could create a reset pack by giving you a new stack of stickers, and envelopes to put the cards back in.
How long do Kong’s dilemma games last? And how many games does it take to end?
billiant
You only played 165 games? That's not even 5% of the games released in 2019! :-)
😂😛
It's good nobody in my main group wants to have kids
We getter u got married
Haha, fair enough. I swear I just needed something to mock Anthony about.
But... I like Star Wars games T.T
First!
damm
Any excuse to show off your sexy new logo.
@@actualol I just wanted to know what it felt like to "first."
This... from you guys?!? I can't believe it :D
Horrified
Bet it’s full of dumbass party games.... Not wrong ; ) (didn’t expect a GMT Coin game, but ffs)
I don't have a problem with bigger games, they just don't make many really good ones. If this year had seen games of the calibre of Dead of Winter or Game of Thrones 2nd edition, they would be on this list. Kings Dilemma is the closest it gets.
I'm not about to praise a bunch of half-baked Kickstarter fodder, or interaction-free euro games just to meet some imaginary target.
Far too few shots of the actual board. Shouldn't spend 50% of the video watching someone talk. Spending half of the video pausing
