Thank you for watching! And thank you for all your comments, I love making videos for you all!
If you're new to Actualol, my name is Jon Purkis. My two passions are writing comedy and playing board games, so I decided to combine the two in this CZcams channel.
I make all my videos on my own, in my flat in London, UK, with the help of a diverse selection of wigs.

omg your production values are so insanely good. i am blown away - can't even imagine how long this must have taken!
Thanks Richard 🙂 It was something of an ordeal 😂
The extra work really shows here. I've seen a lot of Essen videos and you just don't get a sense of game seeing a box cover. The editing showing moves and interacting with the boards are really helpful and you've turned me onto a few games that I had otherwise dismissed because of it.
Think HBO missed a trick not making King's Dilemma an official GoT game.
"Not happy with our ending? Fine, make your own."
Would've made a killing.
Would have made more thematic sense than the war strategy style game they made.
Even hbo is not happy with the game of thrones ending.
@@TCViper8618 HBO didn't make or commission that, the game is quite a bit older than HBO's series and was made at a time when the most recent book in ASOIAF was the third one, deep into the war of the five kings. IMO it fits that part very well.
'would've made a killing' I see what you did there.
Dear sir, I only have so much hours in my life and only some money to spend. This list is delightful torture! Thanks for the video, like always!
1. Babylonia - 0:11
2. Deep Blue - 2:12
3. Paranormal Detectives - 5:04
4. Prêt-à-Porter - 7:07
5. King's Dilemma - 8:55
6. Point Salad - 11:29
7. Cities Skylines - 12:52
8. Valley of the Vikings - 14:42
9. Letter Jam - 16:04
10. Ishtar - 17:58
Thanks Bro
Thanks!
Just did my Top Ten as well, but man it was tough!! I can't believe we only had one crossover!! Great list, I need to look into Point Salad!
Thank you for yet another great video, will miss meeting you at Essen this year. I really hope you can keep going with this channel. Love from Bert and Vanessa
Hey @actualol - just wanted to say you do an awesome job of concisely describing games as well as throwing in just enough opinion about where the decisions are made and which bits are fun. You're by far the most influential CZcamsr in terms of making me buy things, ha. Cheers!
For me as well.
I had the chance to pick up Point Salad last month but I went with a Tiny Epic (now regretting it) and now I want Valley of the Kings. Great list Jon!
Great video! Good job on making my essen list longer :D
Very well presented and informative list of games. Gives a very good impression of each game. Tx for making that !
Thank you Jon for yet another informative video.
Great video! Deep Blue looks amazing.
best video about Spiel 2019
Really impressive list - love your work, keep it up (please!)
Ah, great as ever, Jon. You presented the 10 games in such an interesting manner that I now feel the urge to buy and play them all - as all seem to be very cool (well, except maybe "Tal der Wikinger" as it's a child's game). Please award yourself the ActuaCOOL medal for your work. ^^
😮 The highest honour! 🎉
Great top! I agree with the majority of your selections :D thanks! for sharing!
YAY another video
Going to pick up King's Dilemma I think. Thanks for the heads up!
King's Dilemma is the first Legacy game that actually has me excited. I'd love to give that a go.
Great list! Thank you :)
You are very good at this... Thanks!
Reiner Knizia with a game set in an ancient civilization - who would have guessed? - LOl. Babylonia definitely looks like a winner to me.
Really like the idea of a group push your luck mechanics int he second game too - but most excited for Ishtar. I love games with multiple paths to Victory!
As always amazing video - keep it up John!
Should have watched this video BEFORE going to Essen. Well, subscribed for next year's list ^^
A bit of a bummer though that most games are pretty big/known, or from big publishers, a few more "insider" tips would be nice for next year, maybe.
Mate, I rarely comment on videos. But your content is so absolutely amazing and high value that I can’t help but say : THANK YOU!! Any chance you will be at Essen and I can treat you to a coffee. :)
Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate it 🙂 Unfortunately I won't be in Essen this year because I can't afford to go.
Thanks for the offer of coffee. If you're able to, I'd appreciate your support on Patreon or PayPal, as they are the way I can keep making videos. patreon.com/actualol paypal.me/actualol
Great video :)
Pret-a-Porte and Point Salad look great. And Cities Skylines. Great list.
Excited for Babylonia!
I'm excited for Babylonia, too. And yet, I've recently enjoyed multiple plays of Tigris and Euphrates, Samurai, and Through the Desert - I'm truly excited to play those games many more times. It's getting harder to justify buying yet another game.
I don't know why I'm watching this...some really good looking games here. I don't need anymore!
Kings Dilemma sounds so awesome. But getting a group together over and over for one game has been really tough for me. Pandemic Legacy hasn't been touched in 2 years, and the frustration associated with that is growing.
Having the same issue with our half played Charterstone. I've kinda forgotten where we left off and we have to review the rules every time we get back together. Not sure we'll ever finish it.
I enjoy how CZcams's subtitles for Reiner Knizia is 'Runner commits here'
😂😂
2019: the year of Babylon games!
Craig.... Craig..... I'm haunting you Criag!!! (u introduced me to this channel and know I'm stalking your CZcams watching practices!)
Thanks as always for these Jon. I'm a proud Patreon backer. Just in case you weren't aware, for future videos, it seems like the audio syncing is slightly out (the video is slightly behind I think). I noticed it at the end of this video.
Thanks Dave, I'll look into it. I did have some technical issues with this one, so hopefully it's related to that and won't be a problem next time.
Deep Blue looks like an upgraded copy of Deep Sea Adventure...
Great video anyway, I'm really curious about the King's Dilemma. I've been following it for months but I'm still worried about the legacy side of it...
I'm so sad that sign is sitting in the background, and yet On the Underground isn't on this list. :P
On The Underground would have been on the list but they couldn't send me the game in time. I'll be covering it after Essen instead.
Deep Blue looks good to me.
When will Babylonia becoming out? I can't seem to find anything on it.
Just show you how big Essen was this year and how diverse their audience is. I went, played a lot, bought a lot, but nothing on this list!
wish I had the time and energy to play any of these
damn, this is a pretty damn good list.
I agree! Three of the 10 games are going on my to-play list, two of which -- King's Dilemma and Ishtar -- I'd never even heard of before. And your description makes me even more excited to get Pret-a-Porter soon, because my wife backed the Kickstarter. (BTW, my wife has her own CZcams channel, Meeple, PhD, which connects board games and astronomy.)
Also, I was surprised and pleased by the shout-out at the end. Hi, Jon!
Agreed. I'd like to at least try 6-7 of these. Really good list.
Babalonia and point salad look really good
Jon, in your group, what were a couple of the criticisms for Deep Blue? (After Vasel's review, I was sure to pass over Deep Blue, but after your review, I'm definitely going to check it out, but I was not expecting you and Vasel to have such differing takes.)
Deep Blue seems to be inspired in Quartz!
"family friendly" murder
Make your character videos more often and the money will flow in. That was your unique draw. I love those videos!
I want to believe you, but the last time I made a character video it was over a month of work and I didn't receive any new patrons from it.
I will continue to make them, but they require far more effort than any other video. And I end up having to leave the channel dormant for weeks while I make them, which means I get less views on my return.
Actualol Ouch! That really sucks. Thanks for sharing. I doubled my pledge. It’s not a lot but I hope others do the same!
@@RzorFox Thank you, that's really kind. I will be running a pledge drive soon and I hope to encourage more people to support then. I would love to focus more time on my character stuff, but it's a tricky balance.
Am I the only one that can't find "Valley of the Vikings" on any of the lists we have access to? (Event Badger, Essen 2019 bgg Preview and Tabletoptogether)
No, me neither. I was wondering where I could find it. Looks like a funny light-weighted game.
@@silence3678 It looked like it was only in German during his video..
But... tomatoes are fruits...
Dated graphic design?
Класс!!!
Deep Blue really fell flat.

So Paranormal Detectives is a Mysterium/Cluedo ripoff?
Was about to watch your video when noticed you are featuring Secret Hitler on the background. Feels to me a random and unnecessary choise since it might be offensive to lots of people.
If you're going to Essen you should spend some time learning their history as well.
Paz Ben David yeah, I kind of feel the same. Great game, just very polarizing title. You may consider switching it out for something else, it kind of hits an unintentional nerve.
I hear your complaint and I will remove it from future videos. It was only ever there because the artwork matches my colour scheme and the box fit the space well.
