  • 💪 Mike Holly's 'Go To' Carp Rig 💪
    Using LITERALLY the same couple of rigs over two rods for a couple of seasons, Mike has caught a whole host of incredible BIG carp. Easily used as a bottom bait, wafter or pop-up presentation, this rig has great hooking properties, doesn't require shrink tube, and the Slip-D aspect allows easy change of hook in between fish. Coupled with the awesome Tungsten Loaded Semi-Stiff for longevity, there is no suprise why it is Mike's 'go-to' rig.
    Here is how to tie it!

  • @simonkjaeldgaard-greising

    I've used a rig very similar to this about 2 years. I love the quick change option it gives (like with a multi rig). In my case I've used a kicker in order to lock the D instead of Silicone tubing but the tubing might very well be better to be honest cause I'm guessing that will grip the D a bit tighter and therefore maybe prick the fishes mouth a little bit harder. Kicker works though. I've mostly used it with small baits such as tigernuts and dumbell wafters.

  • @JoffreyVerkadeNietVanDeKoekjes

    Sometimes I can use the hook after catching a fish but when in doubt it comes off, really quick change, I also pre make the baits on a ring with floss, I like to do as much prep at home as I can so less faff on the bank. New hooks and bait goes on night before for next day session. Arrive, and rods are in within 10 minutes. Nice little rig setup this.

  • @CEOAirsoft
    @CEOAirsoft Před 2 lety +40

    I find it interesting that some rig philosophies completely contradict each other yet both work. Take, for example, the difference between this rig, and a standard bottom bait wafter rig. The idea of using a critically balanced wafter rig is for the hook to be super light and go farther back into the fishes mouth. In contrast, this rig adopts the idea of using added weight (putty) and a heavy hookbait to pull into the fishes lower lip. Both kinds of rigs would be fished in the same scenarios, both kinds of rigs do really well, but they have completely different approaches. This makes me want to see more high quality underwater footage testing different rigs like this.

    • @ESPCarpgear
      @ESPCarpgear  Před 2 lety +4

      Light or heavy both serve their purposes. A lot of it comes down to how the hook hangs or how the bait is attached in both scenarios.

    • @EricPollarrd
      @EricPollarrd Před 2 lety +10

      They all contradict each other to create maximum manies in the pocketos. Take the Ronnie for example, showing the hook to be almost vertical. Yet in another rig video it’ll state no nooooooo the hook MUST be floating more horizontal, and just about every angle in between 🙄🙄🙄 Top sales pitches all round

    • @BaitworksTV
      @BaitworksTV Před 2 lety +8

      The concept for me and why I use it is a hook that swings below any bait, like a claw mate. Then the force of the bait being blown down the shank certainly helps set the hook, even when carp arent moving to tighten up the hook links. :)

  • @tomwinterfishing9065
    @tomwinterfishing9065 Před 2 lety +1

    Think I might give this a whirl. I like to use new rigs for every session, and have a cacophony of rigs in my board, some used, some not, some, who knows. This would simplify my fishing: What's not to like about that? All I'd need is a bunch of different length boom sections, then I can select a hook and a bait mounting method. It's similar to my favourite german rig, mechanically Job done.

    Really loved this rig when I first saw it but the downside is you can't really use pva mesh with it. Also find the soft D needs taping to guarantee no tangles on cast. Do you not worry that the braid section is suffering abrasions and ware and tare from the hook eye area. I tested a few times and definitely caused some whispyness

    • @BaitworksTV
      @BaitworksTV Před 2 lety +2

      Yes mate, sadly I can't use a large PVA bag on the hook but little walnut sized ones are fine, the 0.75mm tube is tight and snug so keeps the D in place. Hi Ian, sorry you are having trouble. It is a bit tight getting it on at first, but after that is a lot easier. If you can't get it on maybe go for the next size up in silicone tubing? Try with dry hands and really take it from side to side as well as the pushing onto the eye motion. If you are right handed you want the silicone in the right hand first fingers, with the coated braid tensioned also by the remaining fingers in the right hand and palm. The hook in the left hand, eye facing towards the right. Once you’ve got it you’ll find it easy. Good luck 👍🏻

      Hi Thomas.. To attach a bait, you want to thread some bait floss through the little swivel which is attached to the hook. You then put your bait on a baiting needle, straight through the centre, and then with the same needle pull the two strands of floss through the centre of the bait. Then you want to put your hair stop on top and tie a few knots in the floss trapping the hair stop. Hopefully this helps..

      Hi Jamie, Its a tight fit but a mate uses it with the size 4 muggas and it does go over, you almost have to wiggle it over the eye. It's only the ESP 0.75mm tube that seems flexible enough, other 0.75mm tube seems too tight mate. cheers Mike

    • @ESPCarpgear

      They work together, as putty slowly guides the rig down and the aligner makes it turn to the optimum angle

    • @ESPCarpgear
      @ESPCarpgear  Před rokem +1

      It definitely goes over, although a bit tricky the first time. A few people said it was a bit tough at first but we’ve checked it and it’s definitely the right measurement.

    How does that overhand loop hold? Not a strong knot at all! I’d use that for making a small loop for a hair only. Looks to me that once a fish on the hook will pull to the end of the loop and all the weight is just on that weak loop knot?

    • @carper1993
      @carper1993 Před 2 měsíci

      It holds fine with heavy braid since it doesn't constrict. Quite a lot of decent carp anglers use it when I watch their rig tying videos.
