To add onto your preamble a big part of what makes manga so good, especially compared to a lot of western comics (I.E. Marvel, DC, darkhorse) is that despite the presence of editorial influence on a project, for better or for worse, is that these projects are very unique. Each good manga has its own distinct art style and methods of story telling. Where as here in North America editorial influence is king to artistic vision outside of indie projects. My father works as an illustrator and writer in the comics industry here and growing up I've seen him disillusioned with interesting projects as the editor sands away the unique and distinct attributes that would make the final product an interesting read. Hell he's left projects where the quality control was enforced through micromanaging. And he agrees that's a big part of what make manga special, and why manga has been outselling western comics more and more over the past few years is the stamp the creator can leave on the project. For myself the only comics I've been as enthralled by as any manga are the works of Jim Zubb, who is able to pretty much do whatever he wants to on his original IPs. Much in the same way certain mangakas (i think that is the right term) get carte-blanche on their series. As for the rest of the video you've sold me on Bakuman. I love the idea of a series following characters through their life as they struggle and succeed and struggle some more.

Bless!! I totally agree here, I love seeing mangakas personal expressions in their work. It's fun to go down the rabbit hole of an author I enjoy to see their journey. I had no clue about the strictness of western editorials either, I just figured authors in the west REALLY liked superheros lol. Thanks for the watch!

I've watched most of your videos and the amount of mine sweeper content subtly put into my brain is more than anyone would expect of manga content.

Hikaru no Go is awesome, too. Not just Death note.
    I'm slowly reading this.

Very great first video, especially the mic quality and editing. Bakuman has been my favorite series for a while, and the attention it gets is very minimal so this was a nice watch. I'm excited to watch your future videos!

Thank you so much for introducing me to this series dude. Not many mangas actually dwell in the art of visual which is kinda ironic considering the medium itself, I guess it's kinda hard to make a poem about poems. The only manga and that I think are good at the moment is this and Blue Period. While Blue Period does re-ignite my love for art and design it kinda approaches the reality of choosing the profession in a romanticized and somewhat unrealistic hopeful thinking which we all know is anything but true cause just hard work isn't gonna cut it (well but it manages to succeed in showing the characters passion and hell there are many important and hard art tips there) which totally differs from Bakuman that gives you the reality of battling for recognition and mindset in a field as brutal as this, where pure passion just isn't enough. You either have maximum adaptability or be a 1:10.000.000 genius prodigy (which I am sure I ain't) and God it helped me so much by reshaping how I see my works and planning my goals in my field of Architecture
Again thank you so much dude, looking forward to your thoughts and recommendation for other exciting manga in the future.

Ngl it took me like 2 years to actually finish this series because I have the attention span of a 3 year old on crack but I do love it! It’s worth it and obviously comes in a box set so that’s just the cherry on top ig haha

If you enjoy facial expressions, i recommend you to read Rookies by Morita Masanari, it's by far the most expressive manga i have ever read, and to top that, it has one of the most heartfelt stories about delinquents

only bit that i didn’t like about the series (legit the only thing lol) is that at a certain point it just becomes like “easy” to get a story in shonen jump? Like the first half of the series sort of setup how difficult it was to fight in the magazine and then suddenly all their rivals just create new manga that get serialized like it’s no sweat.
