I'm starting out with other first-timers on Rivalgaming's server. We're on day 12 of 30 and are going pretty good. We have a law for inactive players that unclaims their stuff after 5 days, so I'm in charge of restoring the land and collecting goods for the rest.
For new players, they get 50cr, and 100cr every 24hrs when they visit the Mint. There's also a financial bonus to cleaning up the environment does pulling up the tree stumps and harvesting salal, which grows way too often.

That's great to hear Jolan! ECO is such a good game, and the 3.9 update coming has so many amazing features!! I plan to do long running series on it when 3.9 drops, and maybe even a couple pre-view videos. Thanks for watching and commenting!

This sounds amazing! You have addressed all of my misgivings about Eco multiplayer. I hope you can get your server going again soon. Another commenter asked about a Discord channel, which I’ll second.

Absolutely! The release announced has been set for Sept 9th, and I've had a very brief look around in one of the test servers. The server and Discord are actually hosted by someone else, but I'll post information on it as soon as it comes live. We spun up a new 8.3.3 instance about 60 days ago while waiting for 9.0 and it's still going strong, so it's a pretty solid community group.

Love the video, but the editing broke into my home, beat me up, and stole my money. Your recent videos are much better

hello nice tips for alternative gameplay. greed is a huge factor when i have played on meteor enabled servers, too many ppl play the game as if it is pvp/competition to screw ppl over. trying to look for Dad Speed server if it is still up. Could not find it in search list

@MossFrog - It has been temporarily retired until version 9.0 comes out, which should be very soon. You can check back here though as I'll probably be putting a vid out shortly after it spin up. It will very likely be called "Dad Speed 2" or "DadSpeed2"...something spelled like that.

@@Oearth any idea when 9.0 will drop? :) Is there a discord or something to join already?
I have played Eco now and then, and usually find myself wishing for a more sharing community. I tend to choose servers with the meteor, but you made me realize I don't want to lose my progress - especially since my playstyle is to make things really pretty and detailed. (I love the buildings Eco has in it's steam pics, but never get far enough in the game to try and build them myself

7:55 is the story of our life :), people just dont want to join or live on this server anymore, but there is no easy logoff

Must be talking about the general "greed" mention near the end - it's a definitely killer! Many games are based on a min/max philosophy (how to get the most in the least amount of time), so they play all games with that mind-set, but ECO doesn't function as well on that model. DadSpeed2 will be spinning up pretty soon - hope to you there! I'll be posting a video on it when it does. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@Oearth I noticed they plan a lot of changes in the government mode to be release 0.9, I just started playing this but I had some other ideas about how the society should grow. I think that people should be able to choose between property and skill each development cycle to balance that instead of earning both. That would make the social dynamic closer to the real word and force the system to be a type of productive top down in the initial game and then the rest would evolve like a normal society does, starting from a Feudal, to town, to industrial capitalist system. I did not play enough to tell how this dynamic works, if similar to real world or not, but "democratic" governments are not just given as option that would also require a social evolution the same way the economy does with currency, machines, etc.

I've started to exclusively set up anarcho-communist stores on the servers I play on. That is; free stores or stores that don't use money. Everyone can give what they want, and take what they want. Apart from sparking some (sometimes heated) debates on these servers about politics and economics, it's also a way to defuse greedy play by setting an example. I play the game to "waste my time", so I'm fine harvesting resources and turning them into products and then just giving them away. Why should I try to hoard? If I can my brain down by hacking at some rocks with a pickaxe and someone else can then make use of the ore and stone that come out of that... splendid!
I have to say the results differ from server to server. Sometimes people really latch on to the idea of a free store, and actually start to give back more resources then they take. Other times people are so pathologically anti-communist that they boycott the store on principle. which I find rather funny. In all, I've never seen it happen that someone just takes everything from the store to then just sell it at their own store. I think if you can get enough people together with an appreciation for the an-com store principle one can truly build a server according to the principle: "from each according to their ability to each according to their need"

I do like the "no greed" economic principle, and do think it makes for a healthier and more inclusive gameplay for new people to join the server at any time, but it might be good to check and see how things operate on a server before giving away free items. On my current server, having a player do that would actually create an imbalance in what is currently a very well-running and enjoyable economy for everyone. It's interesting what you propose though...a "no-currency" model throughout the server from Day 1.

What makes a good server? If it was a bad server you wouldn't be playing on it would ya'?...
...bonus point if you read it with a scottish accent.
