"finsk Fidel" means "a Finnish version of Fidel Castro". :D

Fidel as in Fidel Castro. Finland claims Santa lives there.

Finsk means Finnish and when he says Fidel I assume he's referring to Fidel Castro. A Finnish Fidel Castro.

And fryntlig means corpulent. A corpulent Finnish Fidel Castro.

Christmas in Sweden has very little to do with Jesus, these days. A big mass is still aired on national TV as tradition, but is nothing anyone in my family has ever watched. So nativity scenes can be seen, but Santa is more common. Then later in the day we all watch Donald Duck Christmas special.
Santa Claus had an easy time becoming popular in Sweden as we already had gnomes in our folklore, small santas basically. The Disney cartoon Santa's workshop shows it quite well. And before we had Santa Claus, we had the Christmas goat bring gifts, the Christmas got as lost his job in modern times and is now exclusively a decoration made from straw. A really big ones, that sometimes catches fire, is in Gävle

And Santa Claus is even called "Tomten". The gnome. So we even kept the name.
Stars and seven armed candelabras is the only christian thing I can find in my familys Yule celebration. Yes. Yule. Not Christmas. :)

In sweden santa will come to childrens houses and visit. He will give gifts on christmus eve. Not when kids are sleeping like in USA.

We have Santa Claus who gives presents on the 24th of December. Not many connections with Christ during our celebrations (for most). Yule and Jul (Christmas) goes further back in history.

I assume that "finsk Fidel" alludes to Fidel Castro's beard and the fact that Finland claims that Santa lives in Finland

Not to mention Fidel being a communist through and through...

  • @apefu

We mostly have Santa Claus, and in some families it isn't even Santa - it is a "jul bock" (Christmas Goat) that brings the gifts.

    • @HenrikJansson78
      @HenrikJansson78 Před 10 dny +1

But he's called "Tomten". The gnome. So not really Santa Claus either.

Henrik Dorsin is influenced by an iconic comedy duo called Hasse och Tage (and even older comedy than that). Tage Danielsson were type of an independent social democrat. he supported them but also criticized them. He was noticed. They made fun of varies issues in society. And i guess that's what comedians do these days, everything is politicized. But most of them are not so obvious with there opinions, they could vote for whatever in a polling station.

Dorsin is also very well suited to delivering satire of the "upper classes" as he himself comes from an upper-middle class suburb (Lidingö) and can deliver these Hasse & Tage (or even Karl Gerhard)-like couplets with a perfect diction and the confidence that comes from knowing the environment he parodies.

A finnish Fidel - is a stab at Santa, and Finland being claimed as the "home of Santa" and the likeness to Fidel Castro; former president of Cuba.

It is just Santa. Well in the past it was like Germany was in the past, with Santa and Krampus. But yeah the popularity of an evil goatman punishing people for misbehaving... yeah that didn't last long.
