    The back story to this is that Georgia tried to compete in the Eurovision song contest with a Russia-critical song. It wasn't allowed to enter because political messages are banned in the competition, but Russia was very pissed off. And then, of course, the Swedish satirists-comedians felt compelled to poke at the wound, so they did a "Russian" performance meant to look like an entry in Melodifestivalen, which is Sweden's own competition to select entries for Eurovision. And as mentioned before, Russia has no sense of humor and got angry.

    Yeah the Russians were somewhat annoyed. The song is in nonsense-Russian except for "dasvidaniya Putin" "goodbye Putin".

    He is famous because he has won Swedish Melodifestivalen one time in 1992 and been working a lot for Melodifestivalen and Eurovision Song Contest since 2002, even helped other Baltic country set up the show with help of SVT (Swedish Television).
    Russia didn't like this, even Russian embassy protested about this Melodifestivalen interim show. During an interview with the news site The Local Russian Embassy said this within quotes "It is inconceivable to us that Sweden can show such ignorance and misleading picture of Russia." "The portrayal is abhorrent." 😂🇷🇺🇸🇪

    Schlager in Swedish is the same as in German, it's a music genre.

    Yes, the Russian embassy got mad, and there was some news articles about it (That was the ones that was referred to at Parlamentet), they demanded an apology, but that made the whole thing even more funny, them taking this so serious especially the line "Goodbye Putin" angered them I think, and getting offended. Some reporter went to Moscow and showed it to ordinary Russians on the streets, I think, and they just thought it was funny.
    It's an interval act from Melodifestivalen, which is the biggest TV-show annually in Sweden, so yeah, it has a pretty big budget.

      The Russian embassy said they thought the artists should be put in a mental asylum. I got the feeling somehow that they thought it was hilarious but had to hold their faces straight and play the game. One typical FSB guy that the tv interviewed as he passed outside the embassy said that it hurt somewhat and was inappropriate to make fun of national symbols. That bear doesn't look like much and I can understand his remark. He said something like "Russia is different today, no mafia" which is interesting, he comments the schlager mafia, not the song itself. Maybe that's what hurt the most?

    @Draktand01 Před 27 dny +18

    Melodifestivalen’s former name was Schlagerfestivalen, hence the schlager mafia joke.
    Btw, Melfest is Sweden’s Eurovision preliminary show. The winner is our Eurovision candidate.

    Schlager is a German loan-word to Swedish with the exact same meaning. (It is "hit music".)

  • @nocturne7371
    @nocturne7371 Před 28 dny +10

    The controvery mentioned in Parlamentet came because Anatolij Kargapolov (Russin Diplomat inStockholm) made a statement in a Swedish newpaper. "It's unimaginable that Sweden can show such ignorance and misleading picture of Russia" and "This portrayl is detestable"
    This got picked u pin all media and finally SVT's project leader for Melodifestivalen, Ronnie Lans, made an apology and sent flowers to the Russian embassy, but later SVT withdrew their apology.
    If i understood it correctly it was the depiction of the Russian Mob that bothered him, because if you look at what Russia themselves did when hosting Eurovision just weeks later you could think that they took notes from Grotesco. Russias interval act czcams.com/video/ih_Qk2VYywU/video.html

      Importen edit is that an appology was sent from SVT, and when it became public, it was retracted. Would have loved to see the flowers presented as an appology being asked back.

    Dazvedanja Putin!! The cultural things coming from Russia is as we know quite good at least from the time before the revolution. I like how they mash these two sides of Russia together in this show. Schlager is a genre here as well, but i am not sure your shclager translates to ours, it is not the same genre. Like Waterloo is schlager here other famous schlagerartist is Nanne Grönwall, Linda Bengtzing, Magnus Carlsson, Jessica Andersson, Pernilla Wahlgren... and more.

    Yes Schlager music is for very very old people or people with very poor taste in music but saying this in Sweden is a crime worse than murder hehehehe! Just play along if they ask you if you like it or you will never be accepted by the "In-Crowd" .
