00:39 - Intro
Project Racing Green is my 1989 Rover Mini Racing Green that has had an official John Cooper conversion fitted by John Cooper Garages. The standard 998cc engine is boosted from 41BHP to 60BHP thanks to the engine upgrades. The upgrades include a polished and ported Cylinder head with enlarged valves, LCB exhaust system, Roller tip rockers, and Twin HS2 SU Carburettors. The interior enhancements include walnut door cappings, walnut dashboard, alloy door furniture, and luxurious John Cooper emblem full leather GTS recliner seats. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Stering wheel will looked the business with red stitching 🎉
I'd be tempted to put red and green stitching on the wheel, tying in more with the modern John Cooper works theme. Would look amazing!👍👍
Red stitching for the win!
Black stitching, 7.9 disc… oh, you’ve sorted that. I’ve got plenty of jobs if you’re bored 🤣
I forgot the spacers on the calipers , good thing you ran into that so I can check I still have 'm and not be stranded later. 👍
For the steering wheel I'd leave it black , red looks nice but will get greesed where you put your hands and it will start to look dirty after a while.
Nice set of wheels too.
I repaired a set of clocks with an off cut piece of white plastic conduit tube, it was similar size and thin walled, with a little heat gun action it shaped well and slid inside and then cut to correct length, hope this helps you!
And red stitching on the steering wheel would look lovely!
Great video as always!
Thanks, great idea
That was a really good video Keith. Never knew you could get 7.9" brakes either.
Looking great Keith. Sorry about the calipers not working out, sucks alot. I spent my weekend fiddling with the front bearings and getting new balljoints in. My car needs so much done still, but for now we enjoy it. Have a good one
Hi Keith, 100% Red stitching!! You kindly put me onto Elliot in a previous steering wheel refurbishment. He did an Amazing job on our Mini 30 steering wheel....Better than original i.m.o 👍, regards and loving the progress...as usual, Brian
Red stitching on the steering wheel, Elliot did my cooper wheel in red stitching, he does a great job 👍
Good to know!
Red stitching sounds good. I changed the drums to discs on my mine using the conversion kit from Minisport & they went together very easily I must admit. They are 7.5” so your 7.9 with four pots ought to be good.
Hi Keith good to see front brakes coming together the wheels absolutely peach going to look good when on steering wheel has to be red stitching surely great video as always
Thanks 👍
I would go green stitching
I'd agree with some that with red stitching, it will get dirty with your greasy fingers 😅Glad you got the brakes sorted, they look nice in the grey.🙂 And white electrical tube to extend the clock plastic, i think i have some here.
Interesting stuff 🤔
The red stitching would look cool and match the cooper badge. The steering wheel on my mini mpi, similar to yours, has blue stitching on inside to match my dash and looks good.
Rather than hose, 3D print little bits to fix the indicator tubes. If you dont have one, someone you know surely will. Will be good as.
I have the instrument binnacle off my SPi Cooper at the moment in an attempt to make it a bit quieter. The standard item tends to rattle, creak and buzz in tune with the engine/road vibrations so it's probably worth the effort to make sure nothing is loose at assembly time. The gap between the bezel and the top padded rail does diminish with the rail in place but it doesn't disappear altogether. Rover stuck a bit of rubber trim in to fill the gap and placed a rubber buffer at the top of the bezel at the right hand end and against the top rail - I imagine this was done to stop some of the rattling. The whole thing is a rather poorly engineered solution if you ask me.
Keith - great video with even more tips. Excellent recovery on the brake disks. Steering Wheel - tuff choice, if not driven much, Red Stiching. if you intend to drive alot and/or have just worked on the car hands - black is way to go
That accelerator pedal looks like a repro of the old Mitcham Motors (MM) one. I'd be putting a stock one on if I was doing it. I'd also do black stitching on the wheel, but then I'd have a go at restoring the original leather before having a new cover stitched on.
PS. Don't forget to put that strip of carpet that goes behind the heater on before you attach and plumb it up.
PPS I'd get the bonnet hinges on sharpish, as they are a pain when more stuff is in the way.
Thanks for the tips, i put the carpet piece in. Good point about the hinges
Red stich on the steering wheel definitely 👌
Sprout now has four pots, vented/grooved discs and alloy finned drums, Major difference!
There is quite a lot of surface area lost by having so many grooves in the discs.
Red stitching for me if it was my choice.
I changed to the drilled/ grooved 8.4 discs good inexpensive upgrade, progressing well 👍
Hi Keith, coming along well now, glad you went that way with the front brakes as the callipers had been re furnished, so I shouldn’t think that you will have any problems with them. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Thanks 👍
The drilled holes and groves are to degas the fire band.
Sometimes drilled holes can crack after many heat cycles.
The pad compound is more important than the groves/holes.
Perhaps a couple of bits of white plastic pipe from a diy shop will be able to finish the tubes for the indicators and heat the ends to form them to shape?
Hi mate, who was it you mentioned to get my seats refurbished?
Are you sure those discs are the right way round ?
Yes, as far as I am aware. I did a bit of research and from what I can tell, it only makes a difference on vented discs with directional vanes. On solid discs, it makes no difference.
Where did you get your wheels powder coated?
I run Minisport grooved 7.9 discs on my 1380mpi and are fine. But I do need some better pads. ECB green stuff are rubbish
Try the Carbon Metallic pads. I use them on my Madgwick and track mini and they are very good. The only downside is they squeak with light touches.
Its a company called Kerbed in Small Dole
@@classicminiworkshopyes I know the place. It’s where the moving mountains ski place is. Cheers 👍🏻
Have you done or will you be doing blue tooth conversion to car radio that you mentioned. I have tried various devices that are supposed to work my phone via a radio channel which are somewhate flakey
I don't think I will be. I had a look inside and it's a bit of a mess, I don't think I would be able to get it working again
Order new 7.9" discs. They'll be fine.
Black as it should be otherwise it'll look like something bought from Halfords
Hiya Keith-for me it would be red stitching. Great video. Keep well.
