Check the car body drainage holes from time to time. These wax protection products are good at keeping rust away but can also cause collection of moisture if water can't escape!

Other bits to do. Under the outside trim weld covers on all four corners and under the silver trim strip along the bottom edges. Also under the bonnet reinforcing sections and under the scuttle where the wipers are, particularly in the corners and the corresponding area under the front wings, lastly I'd do under the wings around the headlights. Keep at it you're getting there, well done.

I dont know if they still do them, but Miniworld shops/online, and were, at the time, pricey optional extras on the mk6 and mk7's post bmw takeover, you could get both rear and front modern plastic ( but paintable to match body colours) proper full wheelarch trims, some of the fronts could come with added mini mudflaps. These were great for avoiding muck build up in the usual mini rust magnets, in the rear arch/ rear seat/ rear quarter internal panel mentioned, where you used the spray and tube, the corners under the front wings, windscreen base panel,,A panel area, and also the ends of the sills and bulkhead end of the front wheel arch that stones strip the paint off. The little front end mudflaps added to the liner were only about 1" or so below the bottom of the front arch and stopped the gravel and stones chipping the paint off the sills too.
I found them absolute god-sends and meant not having to waxoil or underseal paint drips and ugly lines and marks.
And as a bonus, they had the side effects of keeping springs, shock absorbers and the rear trumpets a lot cleaner, consistently, and last cut down a lot of tyre/road noise too.
And if you do such a banging job on getting a mini into mint condition like his are, they make sense and a good investment long term in keeping the muck away permanently, and the vulnerable panels sound inside and out.
For doors on mini's, when waxoiling them was the only rust prevention, we made sure the water drain holes under the bottom of the door jam were kept open ( its essential to stop water and muck buildup rotting the outer door panels from the inside out), by using cheap flexible plastic washers, which you could allways remove after waxoiling had dried, if you didnt want to leave them.

My Elf has the rear ashtrays but I don't think normal Minis did... But It's a fun upgrade. Oh yes, worth also spraying some in to the front bulkhead cross member via the master cylinder holes.

Hello there, really good to see the detail your going to, for rust protection please look at KROWN, its a Canadian product and they have really bad rust problems, plus its not expensive, I have had three cars done, very pleased with the results. Regards, RichardA.

It's worth doing the scuttle corners, accessible from behind the wiper motor, and above the fuse box....and, its also wise to do the inside corners of the bonnet, especially the front corners, and, while the inner boot lid skin is off, do in there too.....
I did my shell when it was bare, but painted, so I went overboard and sprayed everywhere......

Hi Alex. Before you get the ashtrays just check they were fitted in that build year. I think they were . Back in '77 I had a '59 and that had courtesy lights as well as the ashtrays ! l gave it away ! It was a driver and in good condition ! 😨😨😨

In Johannesburg, South Africa the mini do not have the same rust issues. The rubbers just don't last any where near as long as they do in the UK.

Really good job and very informative - thanks for sharing! Out of interest, how many cans of Dynax did you use? Just one can of each?
Might also worth checking out Chemical Guys Barebones for under the arches. It also prevents rust as well as making it look good

Were those "flutes" a feature of the original Minis?
If so, many Minis have rusted away unnecessarily.

    • @classicminidetails8887

The trim may be covered in Dynax, but fear not. At least that won't rust.
I mean, it shouldn't rust, as it isn't metal, but it is attached to a Mini...
