Today we are on a wintery mudlarking adventure and it is a joy to bring you all with us!! This week we had a great hunt around one of our favourite victorian dumpsites, which was made even more joyful with the wintery frost!

It’s -42 with the wind chill here today, so cold. However we just seem to carry on. Canada has such extreme weather. Crazy.
I loved the video today, beautiful frosty woodland and the festive red berries on the ground. So many unique finds. I love the melted bottles.

@@Mudpies reminds me of a wood in Dukes Drive on the downs above Eastbourne, found my first bottle there ( impressed stone ginger beer) in the 1970s still got it prized possession. 😊

Really enjoy watching you and your dad together. I was always my dads partner in crime with usually home projects,(like digging a 4ft deep by 18ft circular hole to sink our doughboy pool, to helping him put in dyed concrete countertops with in tow for help my, eldest son and daughter, and setting a 15 ftX2ft beam to shore up a load bearing wall…again with my kids 😂☺️❤️☺️), anyhow watching your videos with your dad, makes me miss mine all the more. Treasure these times together! ❤️❤️☺️☺️❤️❤️You two are so very sweet together! ☺️☺️❤️❤️

When I was 15 , a friend & I were hired to tear down an old shack where an old lady had lived for yrs...
We were told , anything you find , you can have it.
This elderly woman was the original "cat woman".
Cat tins in the hundreds everywhere .
Heaps of rubbish & old cloths were a foot deep on the floor .
We started going thru old cabinets & such , but nothing of value was found...
As we started cleaning out the shack (we were keeping the good lumber) I got to the floor & found a hatch of sorts in the floorboard...
Inside were four mason jar filled to the top with coins...
I was shocked to say the least...
At this point it became a treasure hunt !
Every square inch of the house & out building were searched ..
But there was nothing more to be had ...
Thanks to my mother , I didnt just go on a spending spree..
Most of the coins were silver ..the youngest coin was from the 50's .
So , it had been 30 years since any coins were added...
There were a few dozen silver dollars , and hundreds of silver 50 cent coins & dimes..
The total was in the hundreds !
But disaster struck ...
Seven years had gone by & I was a few states away working.
My mother called & our house burned to the ground...
Everything I had when I left home was in my bedroom..
My U.S. Navy uniform , my album collection & my coins were burned ...
I found the coins all melted into one big glob , since I had placed them all in a metal container ...
Sad ending for sure, but I found treasure !
I'll never forget that moment at 15 yrs old.
Goodness me, what a disaster!!!! I wonder if it is still not better though to have found and then lost rather than to have not had the joy of discovery. Take care and wishing you a very happy Christmas 🎄😀x
So sorry to hear of your loss on so many levels. Everyone has such a story but in varying degrees of devastation and recovery. Hope your recovery is quick and complete.

Yes, it's got a few possible uses that we are deciding on at the moment! At the moment it it's best use is teasing Josie that she is yet to find a complete one 😂😂. Merry Christmas 🎄 x

Sometimes keeping a broken item will pay off should you ever find the missing part, no matter how long it takes. I have seen several years pass when a missing item becomes found. I really enjoy your videos. Thank You for making them. I came up with an idea for some of your finds. You keep finding old wine bottles with the bottom pushed way up in the base. Many are broken, so take and cut the top off so they have a flat base and invert them to use as paper clip or candy dishes. You make a much higher quality cut off bottle than others, because you take the time to properly finish the lip so it wont slice up a person's lips if they use it as a glass or cut their fingers using it as a storage 'glass".

Impressive job on the cut-downs, Andy. 😁 I enjoyed the cameo appearance of you & Mama Mudpie in the recent video from SouthCoast Mudlarks. 🥰 I love some wonk myself, so I think my favourite is the torpedo. 😂😜 I also loved Jaffa's cameo at the end. Snuggling under the covers is my favourite winter activity. 🤣🤣 Josie has that aggravated child tone down pat when she said, "Dad!" while fixing her hair. 🤣🤣🤣 I hope you all have a restful, recuperative holiday, and I will see you next year! 😂😜😝👍

Some lovely finds on a very cold day, the small salt glaze harvest jug was made by Bourne's Pottery at Denby in Derbyshire around 1850-1860. By the 1870's they weren't salt glazing as much pottery and were using chemical glazes instead. The pottery is still in production and would later become the Denby Pottery Company. I live just down the road from it, and have been collecting Derbyshire salt glaze stoneware for years, although I no longer collect jugs, and specialize in tyg's/loving cups and puzzle jugs from the same period. Have a lovely Christmas and New Year, and keep up the good work.

@@Mudpies I have a friend that lives in London that collects salt glaze stoneware items especially jugs and he has a website dedicated to hunting/harvest jugs etc. If you search "Mernick Brown Jugs" you should find it, and it may be helpful to you in the future for identifying some of your finds. I wrote a small article for his website about the very early Bourne Pottery that was originally on the road where I live in Belper Derbyshire, you will find it under the Denby section, along with a lot of pictures and info about similar jugs to the one that you found.
