I’m from Canada and I agree with everything you say. The frustration I feel every time I turn on the news is infuriating because as you say, our leaders are just sitting on their thumbs and not taking this seriously and just barely helping out. My question is why after two years are we in Canada only pitching in a little bit of training? Why haven’t we awakened our industrial capabilities and already mass producing the supplies needed to fight off this threat. Also I’m pissed at our government because I believe we need to detach ourselves from the U.S. in our defence and trade, for example buying f35’s why not have grippens so we aren’t controlled by the U.S. I pray that what ever power controls this universe is setting up Trump for a big downfall. As a german myself I have to apologize that we couldn’t prevent that Scholz got voted into government. He is by far the worst Chancellor that we ever had (If we exclude the traitor Schroeder). The biggest political party and opposition Leader in Germany has urged everyone especially Scholz to deliver Taurus for months and he alone rejected it, although most of his cabinet wanted Taurus too. What a shame in this critical time in history.

As a Brit, can I acknowledge you Germans for stepping up to the plate in a lot of ways, despite this Scholz problem. Especially around the boost to amount of resource spent on support.
Over here, our Government has been playing certain PR tricks without boosting funding for UA significantly - just upping support with inflation. Here we have the 'deliver quickly' idea better and the major long-term support going back to 2014, but our Govt are currently preoccupied with the next election and tax cuts to try and buy some votes.

As a German supporting Ukraine, I have been infuriated by the lack of leadership and the incredible indecisiveness of Scholz. On the one hand he goes around and says we should help Ukraine against this barbaric war and on the other hand he just sits on his hands and does fuck all.

As for the Netherlands, it stopped its arms exports, and only delivers to Ukraine from now on. This also means more F-16 planes to Ukraine. We also are going to convert a car manufacturing factory to military production. we also buy 9 new Czech artillery weapons and ammunition for Ukraine. There are plans to build an ammunition factory in NL (the last one closed in the sixties, during the cold war). BUT, we do not do as Denmark and give away everyting. We need to be able to fulfill our own obligations under the NATO treaties. Dutch troops are guarding Romania, and Latvia. They need stuff if action comes. We cannot rearm in a few years after 30 years of diminishing defence budgets. Sorry, it takes 20 years (18 to go). So I would love to side with Macron, but for the next at least 15 years, it is unrealistic and unwise.

Georgie, Zelensky carefully said that the 31,000 figure was only killed in action (KIA) and not total casualties. Zelensky said publishing a total casualties figure would be giving important intelligence to the Russians. The number is KIA, not wounded, captured, or missing.
and KIA at 31k is being genereous and optimistic. unlikely the ratio of losses between the two. if there is 180k orcs, then there is at least 60k doves.
@@UltraRealTrueJesusAgreed, I would more likely say 50,000 KIA on the Ukrainian side and would say for the Russian it’s double that (200,000-250,000) there was a leaked report from the Russian government about 63,000 KIA back in October of 2022 which is a bruh moment. So basically the attrition rate is super high, most of the Ukrainian offensives have been low cost, or advantageous for them.

Came across a different perspective from Professor Gerdes a couple of days ago on the subject of Zelensky should talk to Putin due to the failure of the offensive. A journalist suggested turning the argument around, i.e.
Putin should realise that in the third year of his Special Three Day Military Operation, his invasion has failed and he, Putin, should give up land for peace.

They see a number like $50million aid to Ukraine but don't realise that most of that is in equipment value not cold hard cash as they think and most of that equipment is due to be replaced with newer versions .Another aspect is that with those weapons being sent to Ukraine the world sees how good they are and place orders with the American companies making them so a $5 billion investment in Ukraine turns into $50 billion in orders.

Absolutely. Each country can decide if to send their military to defend Ukraine and Europe.
You didn't get the message right. Macron first said that Europe is threatened by Russia and we cannot afford to let Russia win because we're next. There was a consensus on this. Next he said nothing was ruled out and sending troops was not excluded; he underlined that there was no agreement about sending troops.
The important point was the first one which means Ukraine can now use western weapons as they wish including strike military targets inside Russia.
We have to stop seeing imaginary red lines all over Ukraine. Ukraine is being invaded and they have the right to defend themselves. Period.

I recall everybody was criticizing Macron when he was regularly talking to Putin. I really like that he learned quickly how to stand up to the bully, Putin. Scholz, on the other hand, never took any risk. I used to upset at Macron for continuing to talk to Putin. In hindsight, I realized that not everyone is like Tim Snyder, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, or Brian Klaas: people who have been studying authoritarianism for a long time, and can quickly recognize one. It took only a few months for Macron to learn the folly of his efforts.

Hi Georgi, yes, it's been frustrating of late. In terms of the absence of fortifications, the other under appreciated or overlooked factor is that to go to the extensive effort building fortifications means, by definition, that there are resources required to defend from them. The AFU has been well aware of when US ammo and equipment would run out, and the existing levels of troops, equipment, and ammunition - so I would expect the AFU would have done the calculus on building the fortifications and appear from what we can see on the battlefield, it was determined to build fortifications where it makes sense, and not to build them where it doesn't make sense. The AFU has built fortifications, but not everywhere, but where it makes strategic sense, and where it is safe. Macron is right to bring up the uncomfortable questions because the lapse in supplies that persists has emperiled the situation further, and as a result, these conversations are necessary. The actions by Scholz is truly puzzling, and belies some of the positive support that he has committed, but likely has yet to deliver... The most sanctioned countries in the world are outproducing the West, is truly shameful.

Is not about sending troops, is why cant we send anti missle support near the civilian cities, like strengthen the crew I never understood this how we can let CITIES were civilians sleep at night just get blown like that. Is so unethical.😢 Plus Ive read that is why many leave ukraine (the missles). It makes ppl loose faith in staying in even retaken parts. That would also mean more refugees for EU. I just think Ukraine is not loosing, is the only "winning" part of west bc the WEST that is loosing. And No 1. Yes.
