Just after collapse of USSR, both Russia and Ukraine claimed the status of successor, which included overseas assets leveraged by foreign debt, some intellectual and legal rights, and if my memory don't deceives me, the seat in UN vacated by USSR. Turns out UN did a mistake granting that seat to RF instead. That legal case of Ukraine vs RF for overseas properties and assets is still open.
While taking RF to the curb the UN leadership should also join them

Ukrainian mobilization does not immediately mean that individual will be sent to the frontlines.
Personnel could also fill roles in the rear, such as logistics, medical care, mechanical needs, demining in areas where there’s no artillery or tank fire, and lastly flying drones, being part of the defense industries within Ukraine, making new weapons, new drones, etc. There are many other roles that people can assist and help their defense forces of their nation.

My children are Ukrainians and sweet kids (well, they're pretty good hearted but with normal kid issues). One of my daughters was 7 before the full scale war started and she would draw pictures of people wearing Ukrainian and Russian flags hugging with hearts. She was hoping that one day the relations would improve and no more evil or oppression from Moscow. Her own grandma is half Russian, and speaks Russian , and she loves her very much.. so this is important to her.
Since 2022 my daughter is pretty bitter, though I try to shield her, because some of her family is in occupied territory or near it. She knows who is the aggressive party, she's smart enough to understand that innocent people are being killed. She knows that Ukrainians are the target just for being Ukrainians who crave freedom. She doesn't draw dead mangled bodies of the occupiers. She says she wants them to go home now and never come back. She is nicer than me!!! She doesn't know that this extends to Russian parents teaching their children to be violent little orclettes.
I have family in occupied territory as well. I'm glad my Babu has passed....this would have destroyed her. She helped to instill in her children & grandchildren how to be proper russophobes. Seeing what's happening to her beloved hometown of Odesa and what has happened to her neices & grandneices (3 died when the dam was blown in Kherson) would just destroy her. Rusky mir invading Ukraine would break her heart. I miss her, but I'm glad she isn't seeing this. 😢

I see so many elderly people in the news who lived through so many tragedies and travesties in Ukraine.. some refuse to evacuate while others who can barely walk escape narrowly. I wish I could have been there to help them myself, or give them a place to stay safely.
Funny thing is, that there's russians on my husband's side (his mom is the grandma I mentioned,and she's in Crimea) and he's 100% russophobe and doesn't hold back.
I'm from the US, so I didn't grow up with anything similar in my life. But I fell in love with Ukraine after the first time I visited. Good people! They're in my heart and mind always. I have already lost friends I've made there (memory eternal).
Our daughter is a sensitive soul and I just want to tell her good news and keep her mind on the positive side. She insisted her Christmas gift to be a donation to a Ukrainian child displaced by war (even though she's one herself because we were living there when it all started, now we're back in the US). It's been hard on her just to leave like that.

That's so disturbing, seeing a Russian kid's art contest revelling in graphic bloody detail, the killing of Ukrainians. And the kids are smiling as they present these artworks?! Russia has gone down such an evil path - when I think of a 6-year old kid being reported for drawing an anti-war picture just 2 years ago, and being taken from her parent to go to the authorities - that was awful enough. The brainwashing of such young children to HATE is truly disgusting. Professor Tim Snyder is right - Russia MUST LOSE this war in order to regain its soul.

You mention the security council, after all this time it is beyond comprehension that Russia is still on that council. It is so stupid that our representatives in the UN don’t do something about getting rid of them!
I think they could find a way to expel them on the grounds that their membership is illegal. The USSR was the state that had a seat, not ruzzia.
Considering how many wars have been started by the permanent members of the security council, I think maybe it's time we rethought the whole idea?
Part of the reason why a lot of countries in South America, Africa and Asia are so ambivalent toward Russia's invasion of Ukraine is because they, quite rightfully, see it as just another superpower bully acting up, just like the U.S. invasion of Iraq (which is basically identical to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, except that the U.S. was more "successful"), China's threats and sabre-rattling in the South China sea, Russia's invasion of Georgia, the U.S. invasion of Libya, China's occupation of Tibet, etc. etc. (France and the U.K. have done their share of aggression as well, particularly in Africa).
The major threats to world security are the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.
UN has fail.
The main purpose of the UN is to give everybody a forum where they can talk. If Ruzzia were to be kicked out that would obviously not be possible any more and as a result everything would get worse quickly. The UN is not perfect, far from it but it keeps communication channels open which is it's main purpose.
I do not like the situation in which Russia can just simply veto things as much as I don't like the USA's ability to veto anything regarding Israel but this is as good as it gets and it it (much) better than nothing.

@@icu17siberia I read it on the internet, don't know the source anymore. The first planes in June, the first 4 pilots in October. By January they hope to have 1 squadron of 24. That's why these CZcams announcements about the arrival of planes are a little dishonest when you don't mention the pilots as both are needed to be ready.

Gripen was the ideal fighter for Ukraine, but EU and Ukraine wanted American hardware for some reason.
There are more F16 in the world so i get why UA is given those. But it does not mean we can't send Gripen too. Rumour was that Sweden was just waiting for NATO accession before announcing Gripen for UA.
