- We take supervised self driving for a test in rush hour traffic to gauge whether the technology can advance rapidly to become a robotaxi (unsupervised) in the near future. We want to know what your thoughts are and whether we can get robotaxis in some US states by end of this year, early next year.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Really appreciate reading different viewpoints. If you haven't done so already or you are new to the channel, check out our stress test in downtown Toronto. You'll be shocked by its performance:

Cute Robotaxi thumbnail. Look out Franz! Lotsa love to all ❤❤❤
It’s likely “looking at” both the road and sign.
Speed bumps work for us and they’re very rarely signed.
Hey, thanks for your thoughts! That’s awesome that the unsigned bumps work for you. I hope it is consistent, as ours worked 2 out of 3 times. Not sure if this is also a factor but there seems to be some challenge with the system’s interpretation of shadows , as seen close to the end of the video at 13:46.
@@spicytech Ours may be a bit better than 2/3, but about 100x better than previously.
Its speed depends on the shape & height of the bump, when it doesn’t slow it’s generally not as jolting as previously, so perhaps it sees and decides not to slow?
And yes, we’ve had some slowing for shadows.
We’ve seen that before with previous versions a long time ago during the “phantom braking” era, absolutely a matter of training it out. 👍🏻
I think the system performed well at the intersection where you thought it was too courteous because it will never get regulatory approval if it is too aggressive. Self driving should never block an intersection.
I exclusively drive downtown Toronto since I live there. And v12 has been particularly amazing there specially when it comes to handling construction, it is much more human like.
V12 has been a huge step change improvement when it comes to construction and we both know what that means for our part of Canada 🇨🇦
I agree, it shouldn’t block an intersection but then if others are filtering into an already congested turn lane, when will we actually move forward if the system is too courteous? Others behind, might honk and overtake us out of aggression and impatience lol.
Couldn't help but notice you're wearing (what appears to be) two watches. Is it to accurately detect the mini heart attacks you get when the Tesla goes awry?
Hey! it’s just a remote for the action camera 😃
