  • Tesla 'FSD Capability' Upgrade of 'NoA' Test on a UK Motorway. Recently Nerfed as some great features like Automatic Off/On Ramp were taken away... Why!?
    Please note this is the UK version. Full Self Drive Capability is NOT Full Self Drive BETA like in the USA. It is a software upgrade that ONLY brings Traffic Light & Stop Sign control.

    I've got FSD on a Model S and it is annoying that NoA is not much different than autopilot+autosteer. I do think it's down to EU/UK regulation. I think the worst is how much steering it can apply. If you go around a bend that's too much then it will disengage for "safety" reasons as in line with the regulations. But how is it safe to suddenly disengage at some random point when going around a bend. It's more likely the disengagement will cause accidents.

    • @GabrielRM
      @GabrielRM Před 5 měsíci +5

      Surely that restriction is because of doing a bend at certain speeds? I can see its logic but the "safety" solution just makes it worse. Wouldn't it be better to simply slow down to whichever speeds is needed for X degree bend?
      The only other reason I can think of is to avoid the car going off road suddenly for whatever reason. But in that case, the autopilot is clearly not ready since it can't even see the road..

    My S FSD here in Oz for years has done lane changes as frantic lunges instead of my own smooth easing into the new lane. On changing back 75% of the time it would get just about into the slower lane and then, without warning, lunge back into the lane just vacated with a jerk that felt as if it had lost control.
    After the last update the lane changes feel much more natural: a little faster than I like but not as horrifying as before.
    About time. Safety is paramount, yes, but comfort and mental wellbeing are also important.

    Always enjoy watchign your videos and seeing how the software in the Tesla's has come along.
    It would be nice in some situations if you could wait for the car to decide so we can see the actual requests made by the computer. I know it may not be how you normally drive, but the videos are showing what the car does more than what a human would decide to do.

    I got a model 3 yesterday. Only driven it locally so far but put Autopilot on to see what would happen. To my surprise, it works on "normal" and even on housing estate road (bigger ones anyway). I thought it would only function on the Motorway and give me cruise control on other roads. Software is latest. Pretty sure it does not have FSD or enhanced AP. Not sure what the limitations are. Will it take a an actual corner or just able to mange lighter bends? I assume just llght bends/ twists and turns kind of thing. Still I wasn't expecting that so still impressed!

    So based on what I am seeing here in the states, it would not be at all surprising that FSD version 12 will be hitting the states soon, and I’m talking about as soon as 2024.
    I think Tesla is really, really, close to actually cracking the conundrum of a fully autonomous capable driving car, and I say that because of the development of the Optimus robot, which I don’t believe anyone predicted that reveal, and look how quickly Optimus has moved from a cranky, really funky, looking piece of machinery to where its at today, and so in order for Optimus to be fully operational, and commercially available to others, Tesla has to be far ahead of where anyone would have predicted it to be, and with their supercomputer dojo on the job working with the FSD team at Tesla, I think that reality will be realized a lot sooner than most would predict, and so, as Elon recently said, version 12 will not be beta, and even though often times he says things, and it doesn’t happen, in the timeframe that most would think, but he did not exactly put a date on it, but he hinted that it could be as soon as next year. Cheers 🥂

      Yeh very exciting stuff happening across the pond. I’ll keep an eye out for V12 videos and make some compilations & reactions until we get some upgrade (not holding my breath for 2024 but maybe 2025?) - They will 100% crack it within this decade, after all we drive with 2 eyes looking in 1 direction and a smart but not upgradable brain vs 8 360degree vision eyes and a brain that’s forever on an accelerating curve! 🍻

      @@TeslaDriver So I should add that I am very excited about seeing where the upper limits of this AI technology can actually go, because we don’t know that, in fact, no one knows that, and so having some kid think of something that no one else has thought about, is a real possibility that could change the equation altogether.
      I mean who predicted the rise of AI? I sure as hell didn’t, and if you think about it, AI is doing so much right now behind the scenes that we’re not even aware of and so I am betting my future, and the future of humanity on having an AI solve problems, that many would have once thought of as simply not possible of ever being solved, and yet look how quickly the pharmaceutical companies came up with a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus, a virus that most of us had never heard of, and certainly had never seen such devastation as we all witness with over 1 million people dying in the US.
      So I am among the lucky ones because I’m over 65. I never tested positive, and I followed all CDC guidelines of wearing mask and frequently washing my hands, which I normally did anyway, and I made sure I got vaccinated, in fact, I just got my annual booster shot just a few months ago, and I thank God and the pharmaceutical companies that not only did I not get sick with COVID-19 virus, but no one in my immediate family or extended family got sick or was hospitalized because of the COVID-19 virus either. Cheers.

      They are lightyears away from cracking that in Europe. The cars aren't even capable of reading the road signs correctly or the traffic lights at all (the cameras don't cover the necessary angles to get the traffic light in view when first on the stopping line. We don't have the idiot crossings where the traffic lights are "optional" on the other side of the junction, we have them where the car must stop, so that no mentality of "I was past the stopping line when the lights changed to yellow" can come up.

    I enjoy your NoA drives and commentary as they just as I experience here in Australia. I’m interested to know if you see some of the annoying issues I’m still seeing. First is that if I’m on a dual carriage way and turn on NoA the car instantly wants to go to the right lane then come back to the left later. Second, do you find it really skittish around bike riders to your left even if they have their own bike lane and there is a separation between car lane and bike lane.

    • @TeslaDriver
      @TeslaDriver  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks! :) Ive not experienced an instant ask to change lanes but it does ask in areas where there is absolutely no reason to. With Bikes & any pedestrian the car is overly cautious (probably a good thing) but I can normally tell when the car is going to react even if they are on the pavement. Bikes are v tough for it as its legally not allowed to overtake and even if they are in a bike lane if the line isn't solid white and about 2 meters away it won't pass

For example, if you indicate to go back in to a lane as it was too late picking it up, it is almost as if it is then turning off that part until you next follow what it suggests. UK FSD is not great and hasn’t improved much in years, but you can really tell how few 💩s are given by Tesla engineers when they still have the car indicating to remain on a motorway when you drive past an exit. It’s so unnecessary, so random and so dangerous.

    FSD is the biggest waste of money I have made in years. I have a new Model 3 in Portugal and FSD is a joke, I don't understand how they're even allowed to market and sell it as such. It cannot even do the basics of "radar" cruise control properly without frequent phantom braking and acceleration - hardly a surprise given they decided to remove the radar. If you're considering buying a Tesla, don't waste your 7500€ on something that doesn't work and IMO has no prospect of ever working in the lifetime of the car.

    Remaining in the middle lane for so long could result in a fine so still room for improvement. I do like some of the ‘optional’ features on Tesla’s, some very clever software and certainly a leader. Having a Kia Niro, it has some good features but nothing this clever, I just don’t like the look of Teslas so went for the Niro (which I’m very happy with).

    • @TeslaDriver
      @TeslaDriver  Před 5 měsíci

      No, it’s a very strange area of the law that was implemented in 2003 for telephone/communication devices. You can, for example, use your touch screen phone if it’s securely mounted. Here’s an overview:
      Using devices hands-free
      You can use devices with hands-free access, as long as you do not hold them at any time during usage. Hands-free access means using, for example:
      a Bluetooth headset
      voice command
      a dashboard holder or mat
      a windscreen mount
      a built-in sat nav
      The device must not block your view of the road and traffic ahead.

      Clearly you don't understand that this wasn't a rollback Tesla wanted, this was forced on them by the EU and their political attack on Elon Musk.
      Unfortunately, the EU have intentionally made FSD more annoying and possibly less safe to attack Tesla and weaken Musks hold on this technology and the fact Tesla outsells the German car manufacturers in every market and is years behind Tesla.

    Anyone with a competent driver's education course knows that - whilst driving - the human brain makes dozens of calculations while driving, adjusting for speed, incline, weather, road curvature, traffic, other vehicle size, type, condition, other driver conditions (children in the back seat, for example), lanes of travel, destination, etc., and although a computer and cameras can make many of them (and some of them superior -- traffic conditions beyond one's vision, for example), no computer or camera can be as efficient as the human brain in making the myriad of calculations necessary for safe driving. Many computer innovations -- lane departure warning, lane-change warning, forward collision avoidance -- are essential to improving vehicle safety. A completely self-driving vehicle on existing roadways is a pipe dream.

      You should have a good look at what V12.1 can do in the states, and to think that’s only with 5/6 years of progress.
