But in Spanish the word negro sounds way much light worded than in English. We call all light skin people negros if they are part of my culture. But when it comes to real black people who are not part of my culture I do not call them that. It's not being racist it's just a way of talking.

      Man, sorry to say that Racism is strong in Latin America. Almost everybody who is rich or middle class are white, and those who are economical poor are often black or indigenous. I've been around Latin America and it's very obvious. The denial of racism is very big because they have different history and type of colonial project. You don't have to believe me, but I urge you to watch the documentary series called "Black in Latin America" with professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. - especially the episode of Brazil, you can find it easily here on youtube:

      The thing is, in Uruguay and South America, there are many black players, in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and even a bit in chile. Only country that has very few black people are Argentina or Paraguay. Judging from where Suarez is from, it’s normal what he said, he got called the n word because he has black hair. It’s not just for your skin colour, over there the ppl are very welcoming, family orientated and racism is pretty much non existent there. Just look at their traditional maté tea that they drink, they share with everyone to get a sip, or their late night bbq with friends and family. They share a lot of love and passion which they transmit in football. Uruguay had and still have black players in which Suarez is brothers with. He’s apologised because it came across badly, he was uneducated that in Europe it’s bad to say these things. He’s learnt from it and moved on. Ppl forget the colonisers and the dirty racists made these words as bad as they are when 1000years ago, it was just a way to identify someone, like you call someone a ginger or blondie.

He was not being racist at all to the Man U black player and he took advantage of Luis Suarez not able to express himself in English. The worst is the English media. One of the reason he decided to move to Spain is because of media in England and the language problem issue, is not that he does not want to play for Liverpool any more.

    As a mexican, I have to agree that using the word "negro" is not considered racist in latin culture... it just means black (as in the color). We dont have a lot of problems between races like in the US because the great majority of the people are of mixed race. The problems we do have are mainly between classes but not much to do with race. Its unfortunate that it is such a sore subject in western cultures (rightly so) that it is so hard to understand latin people don't deal with the same struggles as other countries.

    On 20 December, the FA concluded a seven-day hearing, finding Suarez guilty "on the balance of probabilities" of using "insulting words including a reference to Mr. Evra's colour" and handing Suárez an eight-match ban and a £40,000 fine. The FA also made it clear in its summary that "it did not contend that Mr Suarez acted as he did because he is a racist. Mr Evra said in his evidence that he does not think Mr Suárez is a racist".[20][21]

    It's interesting actually... in India/Pakistan also, saying the word for black "kaala" is not considered racist. It's common to talk about skin color when addressing a friend or classmate, and though it may hurt the person being addressed, it's the same way a sensitive person might feel hurt even when called something like "stupid". Overall though, still shocked/amused to see that he doesn't seem to think biting is all that bad lol.

    • @Dylannicklin
      @Dylannicklin Před 9 lety +1

      pingopong I agree.. it is painful to watch them in the world cup cuz they never play up to their potential.. however if you've been following the qualifying Euro international cup they are the only team who is undefeated right now 7-0... so there is hope for England. And you have to give them credit that they are all exceptional players individually for their clubs. They are essentially an all-star team when you look at the individual players.

      Dylan Nicklin The only reason they are undefeated in the Euro is because they dint come across a messi, neymar, suarez, or any south american giant, EPL is all about money! The best EPL player for me is Gerrard, but he is no where close to xabi alonso or a xavi or an iniesta who play in mid field every team in the EPL have super stars from the EU. Rooney and Sturridge your best forwards were shite at the world cup! they couldnt do jack fuckin shit this year! not just this world cup take even the last one! admit it! and going back to the main point suarez is a great player, every player has thier moment of madness, what suarez did he bit a player right. SO WHAT! atleast he wansnt caught hooking up with a minor! how many man united players have done that? they were on the news for it, they were english players, rooney got caught cheating as well with another women, the whole point is if surez does something they make it look so big, when an English person does it they just brush it aside. Bham coach was sacked for taking a bribe and fixing matches can their be something more disgraceful that that? but why did he get away wth it? only because it is an english club!
