When SUAREZ outperformed Messi, Ronaldo & the WORLD | 2015-16 MASTERCLASS

  • Luis Suarez arrived at FC Barcelona with a lot of expectation. In his first season with the club, he helped them to a treble. In his second season? He did the unthinkable at that time: outplay both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Prior to then, and honestly FOLLOWING the 2015-16 season, Messi and Ronaldo dominating the goal contribution charts was no surprise. It had become the norm to see them topping the scoring and assists lists, as well as winning the Ballon d’Or. For Luis Suarez to outscore both of them was unthinkable, but he did it. And from then until this day, nobody has been involved in more goals in a single season than Luis Suarez. Not Messi, not Ronaldo, nor Haaland or Lewandowski.
    Luis Suarez did something unthinkable in 2015-16, and with Luis Suarez thinking of retiring, it's a good time to look back upon this era of his career. When Luis Suarez was the best player in the world.

    A lot can be said for 2020/21 Suarez as well. It obviously wasn't as earth-shattering as 15/16, but he went from being ousted from a Barcelona side in crisis that had just suffered a miserable 2019/20 season where he was one of the only players who seemed to give a damn, to becoming Atletico Madrid's top scorer in 2020/21 with 21 goals in La Liga and being a crucial player in helping Atleti win the league for the first time in 7 years at the age of 34.

    His first season at Barcelona, he was crucial in helping Barcelona win the treble and not bad for a player who served a 4 month ban initially. That 2015/16 season, his 2nd year at Barcelona Luis Suarez was a different beast. Luis Suarez that season had the best individual season, I've ever seen from a player other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and he was in the same league as both of them in the peak of their powers and in fact was on the same team as Lionel Messi and scored 59 goals and provided what 23 assists and in La Liga alone, he scored 40 goals. 82 goal involvements in one season, that's close to 100 those are Ballon Dor numbers right there and he at his peak that was different gravy right there. Looking at that season, many will wonder why Luis Suarez never made the Ballon Dor podium or came close to winning the award, but that was a world class season right there, 2015/16 Luis Suarez and before that he was great at Barcelona still had great numbers even though he served a suspension and then with a full season under his belt with Lionel Messi and Neymar, he produced the best individual season of his career and he was unplayable.

Antoine Griezmann was pivotal in Atletico Madrid getting to the champions league final, France may have lost the EURO final, but was top scorer and best player in the tournament and that's why he narrowly finished 3rd over Luis Suarez, in terms of individual brilliance he should've made the podium. I have no issue with Cristiano Ronaldo winning it in 2016 when he won 2 big trophies in European football, champions league and EUROs and overall he scored the most goals out of any player in the calendar year of 2016 for club and country.

    If Suárez didn’t get injured, he definitely would’ve torn up the 2016 Copa América Centenario with Uruguay and he would’ve probably won the Balon d’Or. Instead, he didn’t play a single minute as Uruguay were shocked in the group stage. The only thing separating Suárez from the rest was the international tournaments. We’ve seen this numerous times where performances at international tournaments take precedence during Balon d’Or rankings and in 2016, Ronaldo won Euro 2016 scoring 3 crucial goals and having 2 assists, Messi got to the 2016 Copa América Final, only losing on penalties after getting 5 goals and 4 assists and then Griezmann got to the Final of Euro 2016 with 6 goals and 2 assists making him the top scorer of the tournament. Now imagine if Uruguay went far in Copa América 2016 with Suárez scoring multiple goals

    tbh, i think he still is. the only "center forward" that versatile/effective is Kane (No offence Lewa, you prolly have the best technique - excluding Suarez, perhaps). Like imagine if R9, Kane, and Lewa had a baby and gave it crack cocaine. That's Suarez.
    Haaland is in a world of his own, but he (like the others excluding Kane and R9) is the sort of player you need to unlock. Not quite the kind you can throw into any old squad and expect results from... yet.

Fifa is a empire of mafia and corruption, you must know that buddy, or you born last year

  • @MrOlmer22
    @MrOlmer22 Před 11 měsíci

    This is such a revisionist take it's crazy. Suarez had prime Messi and prime Neymar to help him, and all he did with it was pad stats against the likes of Granada and La Coruna. In the CL they only got to QF. If Lewandowski had such a season for Bayern, everybody would call him stat padder that doesn't perform in big matches. And that's without having Messi and Neymar. There's a reason why Lewandowski finished ahead of Suarez in that year's BD'Or.
    Suarez has 27 goals in 73 UCL appearances and that's another reason why he's widely considered inferior to Lewandowski.

    G+a=goal contribution is a trash stat because you can contribute to a goal in so many ways. If I make a run that drags a defender out of position so you can score I contribute to the goal but I did not get an assist even if I did more than the person that did the pass. that is why goal + assist do not equal the amount you contributed to the goals scored and that is why an assist is worth way less than a goal. Football is not that simple.

    I'm going to be completely honest here. In my opinion, 61 goal contributions in 53 matches, of which most are in the EPL and many are Haaland playing only 5 minutes or something because Pep is resting him, I think that's more impressive than Suarez's unbelievably impressive 2015-16 season. The Premier League is an insanely difficult league. And as the years go on, the league only gets tougher and tougher.
