    On Friday, May 9, President Vladimir Putin of Russia visited Crimea for the first time after its annexation. He arrived at the Crimean port city Sevastopol during the Victory Day celebrations commemorating the triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II with a massive parade of Russian troops and veterans. The annual festivities quickly turned into a festival of Russian rule and a show of military power.

      @ckr3167 Před 4 lety +29

      “Total support” 100% of the inhabitants voted to join Russia. That is so obviously fake, it’s on North Korea’s level of insanity. This is just Russia, illegally annexing territory like the Nazis taking the Sudetenland. Crimea is a strategic location for the Russian navy.

    • @ckr3167
      @ckr3167 Před 4 lety +23

      ? I’ve seen many documentation’s of the area. People are put in by the Russian government to make it look legal and supported. This is part of Russia’s strategy, dissuasion and hybrid warfare. In fact, almost everyone knows that this was a forceful take over. The International Criminal Court (ICC) recognized the take over as ILLEGAL. If Russia really wanted to support democracy they would of taken the territory PEACEFULLY. Negotiating through forums like the UN and meeting with Ukrainian diplomats. But they didn’t. They rather take the strategic location and rally Russians behind nationalism. Russia is the ultimate evil in the fight for human rights, democracy, and territorial sovereignty.

    • @ckr3167
      @ckr3167 Před 4 lety +5

      Look at history. Do you remember when Nazi Germany took the Sudetenland? This is similar. Some people welcomed it, but you can’t make the argument that everyone did. And no, the election was not real. It was fabricated, hence why the ICC saw that it was illegal. Your disregard of the ICC and international law is frankly appalling, and indicates the rebellious and brain washed nature of Russians and people like yourself. This was illegal. The election was fabricated. What news sources are you getting this from????? I suggest watching the Dispatch’s from VICE, the journalist was actually kidnapped because he was revealing the military intervention, and the truth behind what Russia is doing in Crimea. Look no further than the history of Russia to see dictatorship after dictatorship, a nation forever under the shackles of corruption and tyranny, as Putin seeks to grab as much territory as possible. Riddle me this, if Putin cared so much of Crimeans, why didn’t he negotiate the exchange of land peacefully WOTH UKRAINIAN DIPLOMATS?!?! He didn’t. It was a forceful annex.

    • @ckr3167
      @ckr3167 Před 4 lety +1

      Moscow Cyclist Moscow Cyclist first of all. The Ukrainian law requires a referendum within the country. Your not as stupid to believe that a neighboring country can just take a part of Ukraine right? Secondly, you are wrong. The EU has a policy of non-recognization because, again, IT WAS ILLEGAL. Lastly, the Soviet Union transferee Crimea to Ukraine in a 1954 administrative election. And everyone knows that Russia does not have the right to take it. If Russia took Crimea diplomatically it would be one thing, but they didn’t. Also, let’s try to cite sources so we can argue on a base of evidence.
      Sources:
      eeas.europa.eu/headquarters/headquarters-Homepage/37464/eu-non-recognition-policy-crimea-and-sevastopol-fact-sheet_en

      Moscow Cyclist that’s exactly my point. Russia is an aggressive nation that is frequently in the way of international diplomacy. Ever since the Berlin Wall, Russia has pursued a policy of paranoia and aggression. Your whole argument ran on the idea that this was a completely peaceful endeavor. But it wasn’t. And my point is that everyone knows it. Europe and the US are tied together against the aggressive nature of Russia. Did Russia really have to take Crimea? You think that the reality is what Putin, and Russia tells you, look at the action of all other nations. This is an international act of aggression. This conflict is still ongoing today with more than 3,000 civilian casualties. I also assume you think that Africa belongs to Europe because European nations annexed it, just like the Russian empire did with the Crimean Khanate. Stupid argument. You can apply this broken, faulty logic to all borders today, it doesn’t work that way. Similar to the Sudetenland, just because it was a “fairly annexed land” (again, like Crimea) doesn’t mean you have the right to take it away from a sovereign nation!

      And they fixed this, they saw what the issue was and attempted fixing it. During the process of setting up a government and receiving EU and US donations they endured further unrest and difficulties in the east.
      By continuing to state that Ukrainians live like shit it only solidifies the notion that they should be allowed to rebuild it correctly, without such close Russian ties and with far less corruption.

    I'm not trying to weigh in on the Crimean situation by any means, but I would like to say that Western countries should understand that politics and ways of life are different around the world. Many Western countries can't comprehend why African nations are in peril, why Eastern European/Western Asian countries have the mentality they do, or why Middle Eastern countries are the way they are.
    Every generation raises and influences the next, and it's going to take more than twenty five years (which marked the end of the Soviet Union) to bring about a significant change in mentality. The only reason a country such as the United States gets upset about anything that happens elsewhere in the world is because it affects their access and control of natural resources, and strategic territories. There isn't any other reason why they would involve themselves in conflicts that otherwise have nothing to do with them.
    I've traveled to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Western Africa, and I've noticed that the people (like everyone else) would like a good way of life, and trade with any country is good for that, but couldn't care less about American involvement in their politics.

Russians adopted the name 'Rus' to make their civilisation appear older. Present day Russia used to be called Muscovy, and their people and culture originate from the Moscow area in around 1300. The Muscovites invaded and colonised the Kiev area only a few quite recently (around 1700), and took Western Ukraine even later (between 1790-1945). Ukraine used to be controlled variously by the Ottoman Empire, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Cossack Hetmanate.

Kievan Rus is not older than any Russian civilization and Moscow was part of Kievan Rus, that is not revisionist lie. The Russians kept their capitol at Kiev, because it was close to the Byzantine empire, later Ottoman Empire. Do you even know what the work Ukraine means? It means the outskirts as in the outskirts of Poland. No one in Ukraine called themselves Ukranians until this century. What is now west ukraine is what was robbed and pillaged by everyone your wikipidea mentions including the astro-hungarian empire, which made up the ukraininan language by adding polish words to old Russian that these people were speaking in order to take west Ukraine away from the Russian Empire. It's quite interesting that while Ukraine was under Russia's influence, Russia had supremacy in the Black Sea. As soon as Ukraine left Russia's influence, Russia was quick to take Crimea, and by the looks of things, is intending to separate only near-sea regions from Ukraine. (Odessa, Kherson, Nikolaev, Zaporozhie, Donetsk + Lugansk) And *ironically*, the public only in those near-sea regions is more or less pro-Russian.
    An Ukraine without access to the sea will be landlocked. (duh) And we all know what's the fate of any landlocked country, especially considering the political and economic crisis inside Ukraine.
    Honestly, I love watching master-level geopolitics playing out in real time. You can learn so much about life just by observing.

Regardless of your feelings about Russians or Ukrainians (and there are both groups on both sides of the issue), or fascists (of which there are plenty on both sides of the issue), or the power of Russia, the US, NATO or the EU, this acceptance by Putin that these territories now belong to Russia fly in the face of international law, and Russia and Ukraine are both parties to international law that strictly address this sort of annexation through proxy factions.

      I also have the feeling that many of the lower classes of the region chose to side with Russia for economic reasons. Since the nasty 2008 financial crisis many of these people were probably negatively affected and they looked at the positive growth of the Russian economy and wanted a piece of the pie. If Ukraine were richer than Russia I am sure no one would try to call themselves Russian after having been assimilated into Ukraine.

    Funny fact about History, the Soviet Army was able to beat the Germans thanks to the British and (North)American help. Another funny fact is that similar to the recent Ukrainian revolution (claimed to be a Western involved movement), the people of Russia also kicked once their Ruling Class, thanks to the help of the Germans. Ironies of History.

      Mmm sure we all studied history bro, US helped USSR alot with material support but they landed in Normandy after war has been raging for 4 years and Germans suffered huge defeats and were on the retreat...
      '' the people of Russia also kicked once their Ruling Class, thanks to the help of the Germans. Ironies of History. '' plz tell me more about this alternative history you have been studying :) if you are referring to russian revolution german troops in fact helped the aristocrats fight the red army back then :P

      The German bankers and Goverment sent Lenin in the famous sealed train with a pile of money to depose the tsar (long story short). The Germans gave financial backup to the father of Soviet Russia before and during the Revolution.

    • @AwesomeSkills2010
      @AwesomeSkills2010 Před 10 lety

      Lets just say there is alittle more actual historical evidence for german troops fighting on the side of russian aristocrats against red army than to support your peculiar theory. And even if it were true so what? Germans just created the enemy that would destroy them 35 years later, kinda like US backed mujahedeen in Afganistan during the 80s among them Osama BinLaden :)
      PS. well Osama didnt destroy US but you get my drift...

      @@AwesomeSkills2010 The Germans thought that a revolution in Russia would weaken their enemy, that is why they financed an agitator and flooded Russia with German mark notes. Having a common enemy creates the strangest alliances, like the US with the Soviets to fight the Germans.

    • @cameroncraig7982

      ***** Logic and reason are arguable though, what is common sense to one person may simply be denied by another. To clarify what I meant, I originally had some sympathy for the pro-russian protesters, I still do simply because they are human. However the fact that they praise one of the worst examples of humanity in all of history, has made their cause detestable for me. Logic and reason are fine and well, but only amount to the integrity of a personal opinion. My opinion (or yours, or theirs) might be the most logical and reasonable, but others will always be able to deny it!

    • @cameroncraig7982
      @cameroncraig7982 Před 10 lety

      Well, it's really difficult to affect the state of an abstract concept! Haha especially, someone else's perception of that concept. An opinion (even formed with logic and reason) will only ever be considered valid if whoever is interpreting it does not disagree. While their cause has remained the same, the fact that they praise a monster such as Stalin diminishes their integrity (in regard to my own experience and knowledge). And since an opinion will only be relevant or valid to those who agree, I don't think we'll be able to accomplish anything with this discussion. LOL

    • @cameroncraig7982
      @cameroncraig7982 Před 10 lety

      ***** Might. So a collection of similar opinions working towards the same goal. (Or one opinion with control of others actions) Can we agree then, that my opinion has the potential to externally affect the validity of another persons? But since, I'm a poor, art student, that probably won't happen. Haha
