Today, a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet carrying 295 people was shot down - allegedly by pro-Russia separatists - in eastern Ukraine, dramatically changing the scope of Ukraine's months-long conflict. On Wednesday, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky spoke to US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, who said he has no doubt Russia is arming the separatists, effectively encouraging the escalation of the fighting.

In march 2022 this is incredible to watch... It was all written down
I'm really impressed by Simon's work in Ukraine, the dudes been through a lot of shit since this started.
"Help us!" NO.
"We don't want you here!" WE'RE ON OUR WAY.
Lol so true
You don't know what your talking about. v.v
Best comment
"...we don't know, but in some ways it doesn't matter." The greatest part of his speech.
True.
it does not matter if the insurrection was paid by Kremlin directly, or covertly.
The U.S. ambassador blames Russia for doing exactly what the U.S. did.
You don't understand what's going on the United States for once isn't getting into other peoples shit.this should be a day of celebration. Our government is tired of playing good cop
therant311 Here Here
Putin won? He's on the hook for one of the greatest acts of villainy in recent memory. That is not a victory.
MyFatedMethod Political victory, supported the separatists, supported the referendum, gained a part of Ukraine and Nothing happens. Victory.
DNA Militar Much America hatred in this man. I would understand.. If I got all my history from the back of a cereal box.. I would agree with you 110%.

Damn Malaysia is having some shitty luck
I lol'd
It is proven it was shut down by ukrainian forces
Simon Ostrovsky, bringing sideburns back.
The US ambassador says Poroshenko is the best change Ukraine has at ridding itself from corruption.
He's the man who, back in 2006, the US were calling the "disgraced oligarch" and said that "Poroshenko was tainted by credible corruption allegations."
If he's their best hope, their corruption ridding mission seems doomed to fail.
amazing, I don't understand how vice can post articles about how anal sex is good for you and then have this journalism blessing my subscriptions box :)

Well, they *do* say Variety is the spice of life.
Vice is different from Vice News. Vice is a crap-fest with annoying articles ran by half-witted Hipster college grads. Whereas Vice News is serious journalism ran by serious journalists.
Timothy Creed Good summation
This has been an amazingly well done series. Bravo vice news and Simon
hey simon, why didn't you ask any questions about civilian casualities in slovansk that caused by ukrainian army's "counter terrorism" operation?
Didn't fit with Simon agenda i guess
They mentioned about the violence creating alienation in the local population, which is something very hard to escape from. He just put it in different words
Exactly!!
They shell and bomb the eastern districts indiscrimantly. No wonder they want to join Russia!!
Because you're a bell end
Thanks Simon again well done You are Simon the Great
Thank you Vice. Good stuff.
Please share this Vice with the rest of the world
Great interview, it will be nice to look back on in a few years. I'm sure this will further isolate Russia within the international community. But then again only time will tell.
Agreed my good sir
Finally someone in the comments with common sense.
Skilsdapkilz he called "great" something that will help to bring back the cold war and you call it "common sense". you think the world will became safer with russia being isolated? you are unaware of the russian nukes
chavalote This interview is going to bring back the cold war? Come on man, get a grip. I'd like to know how you drew your conclusions from my comment, where did I suggest that isolating Russia was good or bad? I'm unaware of Russian nukes? Hardly, how did you even come up with that idea?
What is your point with all of this and how does it relate to what I said to begin with?
5 yrs on and Russia is looking good while America and pals looking facist.
Simon is the best reporter Vice currently has.
This why i said Simon The Great
The worst, actually.
Simon is excellent at keeping to the pro west narratives.
When someone else, does the segment, the Ukrainian Military and Ukrainian Government seem like monsters, and you feel sorrow for the "separatists".
Simon makes sure that the nazis are portrayed as the good guys and their victims are the bad ones.
As an American I never seen a politician respond that fast about blaming Russia
who is killing the ukrainians? russians and pro russian separatists.
Woah, the Ambassdor kind of complimented Simon. They seemed to get along well, at the end you can see the Ambassador being very relaxed, and happy with Simon. Interesting.
I was surprised how frankly he spoke, most politicians would probably not outright say that Russia was supplying weapons
He forgot to mention who orchestrated the coup d'etat, trained and armed the most brutal neo nationalist's and allowed them to begin ethnic cleansing of Russian speakers. If it wasn't for Russia all these people would have been gone. Hypocrisy at its best, and he laughs as job going well? Disgusting!
Thank you, Simon.
For thoose saying that "ukranazis shoot it down" youre WRONG because ukraine doesnt have rockets with such range but putin has
"we've seen this movie before". You're right. You've seen it in Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia and Vietnam. Agree on that.
Every few years The US bombs/invades somewhere in the world.
Thank Simon for doing grate job!!!
Can you upload full interviews please, I don't like it when its edited this way.
Simon, you are DA MAN. Keep doing what you do
If you have been lucky enough to have been alive for over 40 years, you have then been able to witness the things Russia has done over the years in terms of crimes against not only it's people, but other countries. As they say, history repeats itself and it's VERY clear that Russia is still living in the past and trying to resurrect it's old ways. Some of the things happening now is almost like watching the news from the 1980's.
Just replace "Russia" with "US" and your comment will become true
@@zapoi67 To be fair it's true for both the U.S. and Russia. But ya.
US is worse
@@samuelabimbola9851 not even close man
Why did the USA and Ukraine vote at the UN against a resolution that forbade the glorification of Nazism?
Ukraine. Our thoughts and prays are with the families/cities that have lost anyone. Watching vice video (Russian Roulette) are heart breaking.
Way to go Simon:) great job
Good interview.
I am a bystander. It is a biased interview.
How can the Americans criticise Russia for intervention in another country, and still keep a straight face? Iraq x2, Yugoslavia, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan... And that's just in my short lifetime.
Easily , we never tried to control another country. Iraq, take out Saddam, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan , to fight against radical Islam . ( ISIS), as well was find Osama Bin Laden , and fight the Taliban . Now how easy was that?
George your understanding of geopolitics is limited. Libya for example was nothing to do with radical Islam, indeed, US intervention overthrew a secular govt and led to the rise of IS in the country. Syria is also more complicated - the US funds al-Nusra and many other radical Islamist groups, just as they funded al-Qaeda and the Taliban in the 80s. Aaand you seriously think the US never tried to control another country!? Do you have any idea how many democratically elected governments have been overthrown by the US since WWII?
eaglepies can i ask where you live?
comparing two extremely complex things by using a vague similarity. how can someone be so naive.
@@bk341 of course - they are totally different things. Russian bombs kill children, US bombs bring freedom 🤭😂😂 That world view is the epitome of naive
great interview simon the best should have pushed a little harder
Great interview M. Ostrovsky !
Simon knew this was going to happen. If anyone knows the inside it's him. Vice lost a real Journalist
Ha ha, Putler never got the memo!
He didnt put a cover on the TPS reports either. Bill Lumbergh is gonna be pissed!.
Simon keeps on doing a bang up job.
the sound is too low
Wonderful Interview.
Other eu nations should be helping ukraine if anything not the u.s
Why should the EU be allowed to help and not the US?
I don't know if you're joking or what..
Europe gets cheap gas from Russia , so they will just watch Ukraine collapse
Audio is way too quiet
good video but the volume could be up a bit more
There is no hard evidence that the anti-Kiev fighters or Russian military shot down that plane. Everyone who is jumping to conclusions can shut up. For all we know it can be either one or an accident on the Ukrainian side.
Even if they shot, that plane was flying in no-fly zone, above armed conflict territory. It's like total suicide.
Except, you know, all the pro-Russian rebels who posted direct statements saying "we shot down a plane, yay" referencing the area of where the Malaysian flight was taken out. Which the pro-Rus are now deleting en masse, because they don't understand how the Internet works. So yeah, there's no evidence except them directly admitting they did it....
MyFatedMethod Give me one legitimate link and I'll believe you.
There's photos of the Buk launcher.
In Donetsk.
Last two days two Ukrainian military aircraft shot down by presumably the same launcher.
And regardless!!
AWACS and US Satellite both recorded the launch, the hit and the aircraft going down. We know who did it, but we aren't playing our hand yet. Soon enough it will be time to pay the piper.
MyFatedMethod that plane was flying from the same direction from which strikers and cargo planes are flying too. Obviously, it was mistaken as cargo plane. So, this is collateral damage. Absolutely imminent thing at war.
Rest in peace, died passengers.
"It was brought down by a Russian surface to air missle" I love how they don't mention that the Ukrainian Military uses mostly Russian/Soviet made equipment.
Well it’s now been proven that it was a Russia anti air missle
extreme low audio
This went well
America's on our side what up Russia?
How did that work out?
Yeah, about that...
I would say right about 7 years they will invade...but this man was pretty spot on about Russia with everything he said..bring this man back in to the fold if he isn't already
He's part of the reason Ukraine is circling the drain.
Go Simon!
4:02 more likely than we actually realised lol
Three words that popped up the entire interview for me: "SHOW ME PROOF". Im sorry, I dont trust him as far as i can throw him. No proof usually means propaganda.
PLUS , everything he said russia is doing "Destabilizing, intervention ect." is what the US does on a regular day!! And then he says "We must not fall into the same trap", and i almost fell off my chair laughing!!!
Do you trust him now?
@@nailil5722 I'm gonna bet no
I would like to ask why USA can support any one it wants but if Russia does that then it's big problem?
+Kristjan519 Do you want a long or short form answer to this dumb question?
we are the balls to the world we got the $$ and power ,so wht the fk we say gos , sry thts life buddy!
Because when USA supports someone we get K-Pop and nice Korean movies.
When Russia supports someone we get a crazy kid Kim Chon Un with nukes and concentration camps.
Oh how things change... :(
In these dispatches why don't they ever mention Canada? Canada is also a large supporter of Ukraine if you didn't know that
Officials are the most hypocritic subhumans. No matter which country.
THIS IS BEST INTERVIEW WITH AMBASSADOR AMERICAN IN UKRAINE VERY CLEAR THIS IS AGGRESSION RUSSIA
how about putting exact dates on all those reports .it would help us watching most recent reports first
this was July 17, 2014. The dates are in the description box. The videos are uploaded 2-3 day timeframe which is why they’re so short.
This guy has a suit with his initals, that's pretty cool.
I was waiting to see him questioning the ambassador how USA feels about the role the neo-nazis have in Ukrainian government but I guess this question slipped his mind.
Rather have ukrainian neo-nazis than dirty russians, should all be slaughterd for all the atrocities they commit every singel day!
magnitocool yes, because the noe-nazis have a deep respect for human life. You are so wise, you opened my eyes.
WOW - the US Ambassador stays "on message" throughout the "interview" and Simon avoids asking about the Ukrainian government's murder of civilians. Was that part of the terms of this engagement?
Otherwise it is just 2 knobs doing their jobs.
What murder of civilians? I have not seen any evidence of an intent to murder civilians. Civilians unfortunately always die in wars, even when only precision weapons are being used and that was not the case here.
Why is GRP written on the ambassador's left bottom sleeve????
His shirt is monogrammed with his initials.
"there are local sympathizers as well" makes it sound like the majority of those fighting on the separatist side are from Russia. Some previous dispatches of the Russian Roulette series seem to be contrary to this statement.
"Separatists"were a minority of locals, but a locals were probably a majority of "separatists", unfortunately it didn't take many thugs with wepons to cause chaos. Certainly almost all the weapons were Russian.
Should have asked him what his roll was along with the other American politicians in the coup that started the civil war in Ukraine.
Go Russia!
russia for the win
yes, to HELL.
well well well 2022 here
So many Kremlin paid trolls here
Lol the real stressor calls Russia the aggressor lol
SIMON IS A GREAT MAN
oh man get better mic's man I can barely hear them talk.
Audio dudes, step up your game.
you can almost feel the freedom through his words. :P
😂😅😁😆
whys it say GRP on this bottom left sleeve???
It's his initials...
4:34 damn right we have seen this movie before just with Iraq instead
Doesn't the situation in Ukraine seem very familiar to Command Authority?
please VICE News regulate the volume, it's really too way low
the voices are low and the shooting it's way too loud, I have to make the sound technician all the time during the video
whenever i watch vice or read the comments on their videos i think of NoFX singing, you're wrong, and you'll probably never know...
Of cause Russia helps Pro-Russian militants - what a revelation! If you follow these dispatches, you can see most locals genuinely support anti-Kiev cause. Why shouldn't Russia support the Donbass if the US support Kiev?
Hey guys can any of you tell me if the separatist have any military planes? Just wondering since I don't have the time to search through the pages about the airplane incident on google to find out if the separatist have any military planes or had some shot down, etc.
At this point no, but who knows what Russia will give them next
i saw Crimea coming since 2004 because it has a sexy pipeline running throw it.
Simon Ostrovsky looks like Cyril Figgis from Archer.
He was kidnapped held hostage and beaten for three days in a fucking basement.
The US Ambassador looks like Harrison Ford from his Clear and Present danger days.
WE ARE GIVING THEM WEAPONS SIMON!!
that ambassador has a tough job
We put men on the moon, we sent a rover to Mars, Cassini is around Saturn's moons. But we cannot do sound compressing and volume normalization yet.
He sounds reasonable
I didn't know Harrison Ford was now the US ambassador to Ukraine!
Yeah, the "Jack Ryan" look was part of their recruitment strategy
"Normalcy" is not a word, normality is the word he was looking for. How competent can this guy be if he can't even speak English properly.
I certainly agree with the ambassador when he says Ukraine needs to do away with the culture of corruption that's pervasive in that part of the world, but concerning Russia's arming rebel groups, talk about the kettle calling itslef black! The US has a long history of doing the same thing with the consequences just as dire. Look at the situation in Syria. Two wrongs don't make a right (I say that assuming we are to believe every word of the ambassador in this intereview about Russia), but this is hypocricy plain and simple.
I don't even know who I should believe now, all I know is people died cause of this. Sad
If you've been watching all of these, you can't help but have noticed that there was huge support for secession in Eastern Ukraine. US just wants to blame Russia, and act like people in Eastern Ukraine doesn't want to secede.
Посол забыл спеть ЛА_ЛА_ЛА
A Ukrainian separatist was caught bragging about that plane being downed.
As an American I am kind of ashamed, the citizens of Donbass that have died (non fighters) in shelling that comes from the Ukrainian soldiers indiscriminately firing is and was a real thing. Why didn't he ask about the Church Custodian that was killed yards from the CHURCH on a previous episode...... what about Ukraine's behavior! Most of Donbass wants to be free of Ukraine!
I really hate the comment sections on Vice videos.
America's Ambassador To Ukraine... this guy sure is unbiased.
+ThumbsHunter afraid of the truth ?
On this very show we have seen a number of non regular militia groups fighting on the side of the Kiev. Not once does the western media even concede the possibility of the plain being short down by any other faction except the Russian supported separatist.
because they did it
Sir help country Ukraine..!!
Heart braking listening to talk of reconstruction 10 years ago and k ow that putin never let that happen. Just escalated destruction again and again.
We go into foreign countries: WE GET YELLED AT
We don't go into foreign countries: WE GET YELLED AT
Where the fuck do people get off at?
while all of this is going on, im over here in the US not giving a fuck and enjoying my life!
Obama's Ambassador will remember this interview for ever and ever. In that moment, considering the Ukranian conflict as something that had to be solved by themselves, under our current point of view, was a huge mistake.
Ukraine had just come out of a power vacuum at this point, there were still many pro-Russian politicians, high levels of corruption and very dysfunctional regional governance. It was no way appropriate to suddenly start dropping billions of dollars and HIMARS into the country, as it would have led to a catastrophic implosion of the military situation, and a similar quagmire to the middle east. NATO actually learned their lesson and spent many years preparing to get involved, helping Ukraine to head toward democracy and internal stability. We are now seeing the results of this patient approach.
If they had let Ukraine resolve its problems by themselver FROM THE BEGINNING, there wouldn't have been a Maidan to start with...
where da fuck the UN was when this shit has happened ? They watched a world cup in Brazil..
