  • Out and about Walking in Great Washbourne
So, for today's walk we are in the village of Great Washbourne on a weekday around lunchtime. The village is located about 6 miles east of Tewkesbury and about 6 miles west of Evesham in the county of Gloucestershire and falls under the district of Tewkesbury. Great Washbourne was once its own civil parish in its own right (from 1866) but as of 1935 it then came under the civil parish of Dumbleton. According to the 1931 census the village had a population of 65 people. The church in the village is the Church of St Mary, which dates back as far as the twelfth century.
Whilst on the walk there was scaffold being erected on one of the houses, you will notice an occasional dip in sound this is where I muted the louder & higher pitched sounds of the scaffolding guns being used (the joys of weekday walking but the maintenance work has to be done right?!). Funny thing was they packed up for the day shortly after finishing the walk!
This has to be the smallest village we have visited so far but absolutely gorgeous all the same! and it was lovely to walk in the midday sunshine albeit very cold!
    Thanks for watching

Great Washbourne is a small village, but full of charm. Especially under the sun, even a little cold. Full of joy too. The church is not harsh but softly colored!!.
    Thank you OAAW

Beautiful walk, OAAW! Did you get a new camera or perhaps it's the sunlight, because the image quality of this video is great...very crisp, just like the weather. The tudor houses look quite well maintained. I found the defibrillator in the old phone booth very interesting (is this common?)

Thanks Michael. It is a relatively new camera but I think the sunlight really made a big difference. I sent the camera back for repair the other day as I don’t know if you have noticed but in recent videos the footage had an occasional roll on the horizontal axis, which really bugged me! I did a walk on Sunday with my old cam but using the same gimbal as always and the footage was fine (actually turned out to be a really good walk too, one of the best early morning walks that I have had in a while). The defibrillators are very common place in the telephone boxes nowadays. All the best. OAAW

@@OutandaboutWalking That's very interesting about the defibs in the old telephone booths. Is this something isolated only to small villages due to their distance from hospitals? I can't wait to see your latest Sunday walk.

@@michaeltichael yes, I believe they are mainly positioned in more rural locations (I don’t recall seeing any in cities or towns, although some public service buildings/venues seem to have them) and I think time/distance would be considered when choosing where to place them in terms of the emergency services reaching a patient. It is definitely a great idea as it has the potential to save lives & keeps the old red phone boxes going as well. That Sunday walk will be just two uploads away :). OAAW
