As a native of Derbyshire I'm very fortunate to frequently visit Bakewell and Chatsworth. My wife and I like to sit outside the Rutland Hotel and people watch, then it's off to the Riverside fish and chip shop for cod and pea mix then sit and eat them by the river. Bloody marvellous

The West Country (Cornwall, Somerset, Devon, Dorset) has some beautiful villages, as of course does the Cotswolds (a large area bordering the West Country and encompassing more than one county, where they filmed Downton Abbey and parts of Spielberg’s War Horse, and which is beyond idyllic), as well as The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales etc etc. Yes, England is literally littered with picture-postcard villages. It’s the one thing that makes it hard to leave, because after a while you just miss them. And it’s the setting as well, with our distinctive rolling green hills and little churches. Don’t get me wrong - places like France and Germany have some stunning ancient villages, but there’s something very unique, nostalgic and magical about ours. But obviously I’m biased 😂 😂

A truly beautiful part of the world and the people are so so friendly, different to the London lot'! And the hill walking in Derbyshire is second to none with fantastic industrial history. Be aware though, Derbyshire does get extremely busy and if you go to Coton in the Elms, this is the place in the UK that's the furthest point from the coast. Interesting fact of the day!!! I guess it depends on the person really but there is definitely a move for people to want to move away to the countryside since the pandemic and have more space. With the work from home option becoming more widely available I suspect this will increase. I just hope people make it a permanent home and not a second home that kills communities.

Not everyone wants the quietness of the countryside or the lack of diversity in some towns and villages. London has lots to do and people can get high paying jobs. I live in Birmingham and live it but I do visit the countryside for short breaks but get bored after a few days but the scenery and tranquility is a welcome break for me. Everyone has their own idea of what suits them and I like the hustle and bustle of being in a city as well as knowing I can see and interact with people from all backgrounds.

I had a penpal MANY years ago who lived in Derby, Derbyshire. This is the first video I've discovered that really showcases just what a quaint and charming place that is. Some of the architecture reminds me of Boston. I love your channel and just subscribed. It really gives that Rick Steves vibe. Very professionally done indeed. Your videos will definitely keep me company on these cold winter days. 👍👍👍

Known elsewhere in Britain, if only by the famous Cake. This was indeed ,a wonderful introduction for me. Despite the surprising age of many Homes and other Buildings, I was surprised how beautifully kept they all were, appearing to be much more recent. A lovely town, and set in beautiful surroundings. What a difference a meandering river makes, with it's many quaint bridges .

We have the obligatory Bakewell pudding, but normally go on a little further to the next village, Ashford in the water and have lunch at the Ashford arms. You obviously have a direct line to the weather gods, all your videos have the most beautiful weather! Hmmm…. The pudding does look to be an acquired taste, if you‘re used to those iced treats we all know. I bet it’s a kind of snobbery- who likes the „real“ one, you know?! The River Wye is so beautiful. Such clear water. The very first shot reminded me of the River Brenz, over here. I hope very much I shall see you here, in the future, when the world has found it’s feet again.

Then I'm a snob! But the pudding is light years better than the tart! Perhaps I'm biased, because I was born there! Pleased to see it still looks charming. I haven't visited since the 70s. Time to take another look. Fine vid. Thank you!
