- The Cotswolds AONB is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. In our brand new series, Hidden Gems in the Cotswolds, Robin Shuckburgh and Widget the Dog bring you some wonderful hidden gems: Villages not quite so famous, but equally as beautiful as their more famous counter parts.
In this episode we begin in Ablington and move through Eastleach, up to Windrush, north to Shipton Under Wychwood, finishing up in the lovely thatch village of Broad Campden, just outside Chipping Campden.

Thank you, Robin and Widget, for showing the beauty, and presenting the history of the Cotswolds. I'm from The Netherlands, but I've lived in Devon for almost 5 years, before I returned to my home in March 2020, feeling safer in my home, in my country of birth.
Now that the world is in turmoil, returning to live in Britain again isn't my plan, but holidays? oh yes! I've found such beauty in Britain's countryside, exploring Sussex, Wiltshire, Somerset, and the North West coast of Cornwall. I feel very good where rock is under my feet, and the difference in height creates the sound of water, also over boulders, in rainy seasons. Plus the far views from hilltops and from the Dartmoor Tors. The coastal variety is great too!
The old robust homes, churches, and farmsteads, built of stone and wood from the surrounding material in the area, are often rich in architectural style, and so harmoniously blend with all that is around, matching colors. In these episodes, that's much more apparent.
Tithe barns, churches, mansions, woodland, so much more in volume, unspoiled nature, tranquil spots and cozy pubs, lovely parks with benches, and well-kept flower borders, the absence of fast-forwarding noisy life is most welcome, now that I've reached the age of 70. I'm thinking of taking my e-bike on the ferry with me, exploring this part of Great Britain.💚
very nicely written - great observations regarding the things we love about such places (I imagine there are such places in the Netherlands also).
A breathtakingly beautiful part of England. Worth preserving, worth protecting, worth fighting for.
My grandmother told me about the natural splendor and wonderful structures within this region of England. When the present pandemic wanes; as it will; I would like to cycle through the Cotswolds. Many thanks and take care Robin Shuckburgh.
That sounds like a brilliant plan. All the best!
I have just spent the last 30 minutes in heaven. What a beautifully wonderful piece of videography, with mind blowing commentary and an utter fascination for the quintessentially British Cotswolds. Bravo! ☺️🏴🇬🇧🏴
What a wonderful programme....thank you so much. I wonder who lives in those amazing places.....what a blessing .... Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures..... God Bless from South Africa. I am recovering from hip surgery , and this was a welcome afternoon in the country whilst I lie here in bed 😂
Hi there, how are you?
Oh how I would love to live here it is so beautiful
Hi there, how are you?
i dont know what magic this guy has. Everytime he says come with me, i feel like saying yep, lets go. Such is the warmth.
From my home in Orange Calif, where the oldest homes are Victorian styled,... and roughly one hundred or less years,... I find it fascinating to see homes that have existed much longer,... in such wonderful,... almost fantasy like settings (usually only found in Disney movies),... I wonder if only we could live long enough to experience them all. I have been in England and Ireland back in summer of 1988 in a rock band, touring mostly through southern parts of Ireland from Dublin, Wexford, Cork,...etc. Every shade of green in the country side. It was a strange trip made possible by a hit song, our youthful disregard and a little blue van!
The hat flying trough the map was a very good idea.
Thank you very much for taking us to the beautiful English villages.
I lived in chadlington many years ago and now in Qld. Recently visited chadlington again and loved it
Hi Holly
How life changes, 7 years ago I was in bars partying and now I'm watching this on CZcams planning a trip to the Cotswolds🤣 Funny how life changes.
Nice episode and I'll be dropping a sub waiting patiently for more, I've never visited the Cotswolds but it's only 2 and a half hours drive away for me so I think I'll go soon, probably in 2 weeks when me and the fiancee have a free day. Thank you for this!
Beyond fabulous.
I reside in Melbourne Australia we are now in our sixth lockdown and your channel is so calming and uplifting.
With gratitude.
I went to Grammar School in NORTHLEACH…..Truly this is the most beautiful part of beautiful Cotswolds… On admission as 11 yr old students, our Headmaster welcomed and lectured us …” You are the Cream of the Cotswolds “….
This place is truly a GEM. It reminds me of The Secret Garden.
A superb show, I cannot understand why anyone would give it a thumbs down!
Robin, Congratulations on this new format and focus! I think this focus on 'gems' suits you perfectly! and it is something that the plethora of other channels about the Cotswolds does NOT do. Instead of hurriedly trying to take in every possible 'charm' of a Cotswold village in an episode, you focus here on just a few, which allows us to 'breath' and see the Cotswolds in a way that most of us never have up to this point. I think this also really utilizes your knowledge and wisdom so beautifully. Thank you. I'll be tuning in for each episode to come! Jim in Orlando, Florida.
I toured the Cotswolds many years ago..How nice to visit it again with your lovely videos thanks to Kirsten & Joerg.
I so agree with the viewer "Nastro" below. What a pure delight to find The Cotswolds Explorer.
Just discovered this channel, what a joy to behold. Thankful for the time taken to produce these wonderful videos. Much appreciated .
Hi there, how are you?
Home sweet home.
My Nan owned the Bakers arms for many years. This really took me back. I live in Cirencester now, might be time for a visit.
It must of been wonderful.

Hi there, how are you?
This way of viewing your channel really suits the format. Definitely a longer episode is the way to go.
Really looking forward to this series especially episode 4. We have family going back from my Grandparents to 1530 in that area. I was always amused by the Upper and Lower slaughters, we were also in Naunton, Lower Swell, Guiting Power.

I feel so rejuvenated from watching& listening to this wonderful guide through my favorite place on Earth. Thank you Robin, Ross & Widget for bringing the beautiful Cotswolds into my life again 🌟🌟🐶💖
Glad you enjoyed!
Yes!! Just what she said!!😎
Good to know, that we have these videos of the wonderful British culture that we used to have. Because, our political parties are so desperate to get rid of it. These churches, once filled with Christian worship will once again be full as they become Mosques.
Thank you for this - I had always heard the Cotswolds were otherworldly beautiful, now I desperately want to go there and consider it as an option for my long-held dream of living in a quintessentially English village. Thank you for this wonderful series.
What beautiful , purely beautiful films.Thank you . Such a pleasure.
My dream is to visit Cotswolds one day!
Cheers from Florida, USA.
i feel like a child listening to my granpa telling me stories about a fairy fabulous unreal place like this. Im enchanted ❤️
Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi there, how are you?
I love the Cotswold in England. I am British but I have lived in California for almost 37 years now. But you cannot take me from from my roots. Simply stunning……
Just wonderful… Thank you!! Until we can travel again, this warms my English Countryside loving heart.
How much I love our travels through the Cotswolds almost like time has stood still. Its somehow very comforting! Thank you Robin,Ross and Widget!
You are, sir, the modern day replacement for the much loved John Betjeman. I am old enough to have seen his travelogues when they first came out in the 1960's and I have to say yours are just as interesting. You also have wonderful presentational skills which make for such easy listening. How I have not come across you before I know not.
I am extremely flattered by the comparison. I guess we all stand on the shoulders of giants. I hope you continue watching. Robin
A delight to ‘travel’ around beautiful England even from afar here in New Zealand. I look forward to more episodes to soak up.
I'm so glad I found this.. I love England, and when I think of England, this is what I imagine.. lovely, quaint and picturesque villages, all with shaded paths to walk, and beautiful houses.. this gentleman seems like a nice man, and his voice is calming as he takes us through some of these places. I also love the music that's playing in the background... it adds to the beauty.. not overpowering, as I've heard in other videos, but just as calming as his voice, and the places he walks through.
Great program. Thank you! 😀
I just love seeing all your newest posts. That you have your charming widget with you , you are doing well and every village is still unchanged as it is. Take care my friend, and tally ho. Thank you for sharing .
You have taken us into another world beautiful thankyou. God's creation takes our breath away. From Brenda

I love the Cotswold. Bibury Bradford Castlecoome Oxfordshire. I was intrigued by scenes from Hercule Poirot mysteries. I have passed by small villages for the lack of time. This is really such a gem to watch.

Pleased you enjoyed!
Huge amount of work to make this show. Wonderful work.
Delighted to have just discovered this channel. Beautifully presented AND most of these villages are on our doorstep. (We live in Swindon. Somebody has to.)
How lucky you are, one day, one day....
Nothing wrong with living in Swindon. I have done so for 36 years, it is a good town.
@@worldofameiso5491 the magic roundabout is a bit silly though. Not sure what the Americans would think of that one.
😆😍😚
Just found you and subscribed! Perfect for a Spanish expat who enjoys the British countryside.
I'm from Griffin, Queensland and visited the Cotswolds in 2013 and 2018. A beautiful area of England. I only visited a few villages and wished I'd seen more. Your videos make me want to return and explore. Thanks, keep up the good work.
Hope you get the chance to do so one day 😊
I've just come upon your channel and I'm delighted with this kind of slow travel and discoveries.. Your voice and its tempo are as charming as the scenery. Thank you!
Every interesting place, where we can learn about trough that you tell us.
Hi there, how are you?
Fantastic video. Look forward to returning from NZ and hopefully settling in one of these beautiful villages.
I love your dog! 🐕❤️ He kept me watching!
Very nice.
Fairytale Magical England!!!!!!!
I just enjoy listening to your calm voice while I work on something else. You have a very calming voice.
Beautifully made video, as always - thank you!
"Now is the misery of our Covid discontent made glorious summer by this sun of Gloucester!" Apologies to Mr. Shakespeare. Not sure if our Robin is a native of the shire in consideration; if not, a most celebrated "honorary" member to be sure. Another wonderful Sunday morning made better by your (plural "your" - or as we say here in the States to indicate the differentiation: all y'all's) efforts and the beauty of the Cotswolds. Thank you. Thank you. A thousand times: thank you. Alright, I'll stop. Parting is such sweet sorrow...
love this :D
Waxing lyrical indeed!
all y'all's LOL

I’m so happy to have stumbled upon this channel! Your videos are done so beautifully and Robin is absolutely delightful! Thank you for providing such valuable content 🌿
I am so glad to see a new series happening. New stories. New adventures. Although repeats are always acceptable. Like reading a book, you always find something you missed before. Like I have mentioned previously, I just love the scenery and all it’s surroundings. My mind has not been swayed. Thank you again. I look forward to the coming weeks. Stay safe. M
Superb in every way! Had the wonderful privilege of visiting The Lake District as well as Bath just before the pandemic. Robin love your series. H.P.
Very pleased to see these new videos! Endlessly fascinating. Thank you! ❤️
Pleased you enjoyed 😊
We've compiled our Hidden Gem films into a brand new series! Where would you like us to visit in the Cotswolds? Let us know!
Charlbury! I lived there for a brief period in 2014 (I'm Canadian). Also Enstone and Eynsham!
Randwick. It has a fascinating yearly event - the Wap.
Kelmscott. The William Morris connection.
Painswick and surrounds would be nice! 😊
Thanks
Bibury please!
Very attractive countryside and houses.
I travelled with seven other women in a lovely touring van to see the village of Bampton. The village that is in the Downton Abby TV show. It was an idyllic village but we were making our way west to tour Wales so there was no time to see more of the villages. I am enjoying seeing them now by following your You Tube channel.
Glad you enjoyed my home village of Bampton. It is lovely. Come to the area again when you can.
Beautiful 1st episode. Very well narrated and filled. Hope to visit the Cotswolds sometime.
i'm glad to see you again robin, all there is wonderful, precious, thanks so much for this video you and ross are fantastic greeting from mexico city!!!!!!
Most welcome, enjoy!
Thank you so much for this. Your voice and clear love of the area and it's history makes this so delight full. Press on you and Widget!
Great show! Additionally, the questions you ask are those that all communities struggle with. In particular development and right of access. I'm looking forward to learning more about these raised questions from your series. Keep up the good work.
Such beautiful countryside & old buildings full of history. Lovely
So glad I stumbled upon this, it’s excellent. I am fortunate enough to live in the Shire and is great to see and hear about these lesser known places. Thank you so much!
It's at least a bit of a relief to know the foundational structures are there to protect and revitalize.
In our modern world, with the rush to achieve our own self-importance, we lose our sense of place.
Someone's family belongs to that fine manor house and the direct connection to the ancient Churches suggests that the connection between the Divine and the community belongs there as well.
Life moved at a slower pace for the purpose of observing these connections.
We should remember our place.
We should remember our purpose.
