    Thank you so much for posting this. it was like being in a time machine. Loved the old cars and buses, boy they looked old fashioned, made me feel old too .Hope the gas van driver was ok .An important social history film. well done. From over the border, South Anston. Greetings Worksop. Nice to see the old shops. things were much better then, t=you could keep a girlfriend for more than 2 minutes, and the pubs were full. wonderful.

    At the point when the gas van crashed at 12:58 it looked liked at first it had taken the Escort estate with him, but after it paused the Escort carried on as if nothing had happened, even though he had a very lucky escape. Footage like that back then was rare but one hoped it paved the way for more people to fit or take cameras in vehicles for evidence purposes like this today.

      @@joshbacon8241 Directly in front of the Escort driver (who swerved) & the gas van missing him by a whisker. He easily had the best view of it but despite what happened (& his close call) he just continued driving on rather than stopping to see if the gas van driver was OK. It's all there for you as the footage shows.

    loved watching this, lit was the year I left workshop. I am the Grandaughter of The Famous Mr and Mrs Brumby from the Best chippy in town on cheapside, in fact I was born in that house . I came for my Grandmother's funeral in 2004 and I was heartbroken to see my grandparents lovely fish and chip shop derelict and abandoned. is anyone knows Who owns the property please send me a message thank you

    • @lathejack
      @lathejack Před 4 lety

      I remember Mrs Brumby's chip shop being on Garside Street, just off Priorswell road. Across the road was a corner shop run by Mr & Mrs Cairns, they had a daughter called Diane.
      I lived just a short distance from Garside Street, just over the Canal Bridge and turn right after the old Brewery entrance and down Canal Terrace, number 7.
      I lived there from 1967 until the age of 14 in 1979, and was a regular customer at Brumby's chippy throughout the 1970's. They used to wrap the chips in newspaper then, and if you took Mrs Brumby a pile of old newspapers she would give you a free bag of chips.
      I remember there was a long, narrow and low white painted wooden bench in the chip shop that we used to sit on when we were kids. The bench was still there in the 1990's when the shop was run by a Chinese chap.

    Fascinating video! From the cars and buses (many which are now extinct or commanding high prices for the ones that have survived), the now-defunct high street chains (Tandy?! Forgot about that and I remember it from my 1990s childhood!) to the prang captured at 12:58.
    What car were you in?
    Also, the lady whom you honked at.....wonder where she is now and what her story is?

I used to work at the Tandy store 1980 - 81 when l lived in Doncaster. I seem to recall the competition came from a Hi - Fi shop called Baskill’s (?)

    Look at those cars what a memory in uk none of then are on roads now. Only new ones which are ugly they don't have any style and full of garbage tech. Not usefull at all. These were strong some and reliable cars they did break down more but they were easy to fix at home then now days taking to a dealer just to get ripped off and you can't even do anything with them at home.
