    It’s summer 2023 as I write this, and I drove along many of those roads yesterday, along the cliff tops, passing where the shell house used to be, and through the town centre (where you can still drive), and other side roads. Many things exactly the same, but others so different. Over 40 years have passed already since that was filmed, and it’s fascinating to think that this film in decades to come will become a rare an important piece of Bournemouth historic reference for future generations. Just as film of Bournemouth in the twenties, thirties and forties etc is to us now.

    Lovely to come across this. I spent a week in Bournemouth with three of my friends in July 1981 after we bunked off the last week of school! We camped by the airport and drove into town every day and spent our time on the beach and on the pier playing the amusements. So many happy memories. Thank you.

      Better days and not just because we were young back then. Social media platforms fool people into thinking today's society is better when in cold reality it isn't.

    I watched this yesterday (through my TV, so couldn't comment). Fascinating to watch! I always enjoy old footage and photos of Bournemouth, but the 'later' images, 70s-80s are of great interest. I was in my teens in 1981 and spent a fair amount of time around the Bournemouth & Boscombe town / seafront area. Still live in Bournemouth and footage like this reminds even more of what's gone from my home town. A real pleasure to see this, thank you.

    Amazing footage. The roads didn't seem to be so clogged up with traffic back then and there seemed to be so many more places to park on the roads. What a difference 42 years has made and not really for the better I'm inclined to say.

    I was there last weekend, loved seeing the area, miss the Belvedere Hotel, had some great stays there, heard about the fire in June, shame. If you have any film of it when it was running, it would be great to see again.Thanks for showing, oh and great cars back then.

    Obviously this was to view the sights of Bournemouth, not to look at the cars, as virtually all of them were everyday/common-sight back then. Today they now add to it. Almost like forward thinking.

    I'm going to have a very sad moment here, I would like to know what car this is? To me, the wiper arms are set up for a left hand drive car. Normally of a right hand car the wiper blade you can see would normally be on the left of the shot, wiping from left to right so not to have half the ark in the driver view. On right hand drive cars the passenger should have half the ark and the driver having a clear view... yous who drive in the UK have a look at your car and you should see what I mean.

    • @catchit9794
      @catchit9794 Před 3 lety +1

      I would say that car is a Citroen gs. based on the style of door mirror, the rectangular grille in the centre top of the dashboard, the black windscreen wipers and the shape of the doors seen briefly via the reflection in the door mirror. If you are sad, then I am worse lol. I remember driving most of these cars in the early eighties as an apprentice mechanic. I dislike modern cars.

I must admit I drive a Mk4 Mondeo which is a "Mile Muncher", but my next car will be one where you open the bonnet and can see your feet; Mk1/2 Escort with Plugs and Points... Who remembers those?

      @@richardlawrencesmith wow, a pre electronics escort. you have taste sir! My budget doesn't run to the price of one of those beauties :( But I recently sold my overly complicated 2 year old car because even to change the clock involved delving into the onboard computer and faffing about. (I'm 55, and don't think you should need a computer to tell you the time in a vehicle tbh.). I bought a 1999 Renault Megan coupe with 41,000 miles in near mint condition for under £200. retro motoring with the worthwhile mod-cons (including a sunroof!).I would love to go back in time in this video and buy one of those Rover sd1 when it was new.
