  • In July 2016, after an argument with her boyfriend, Kaylee Sawyer left her apartment complex and walked out into the night. Before long, her phone had turned off. When she didn't show up to her job the next day, alarm bells really started ringing, and the awful truth about what had happened to her, would soon come to light.

You're so right... I can't count how many times I've read/heard stories of significant others refusing to cooperate with LE, much less going to them with the info. A lot of LE spouses still wouldn't come forward because they LOVE the person too much, or because its their childrens' parent, etc. I am sincerely impressed with her ethics and morals, and her putting her kids first, because they don't need to be around that kind of man, nor does she!

@@Nikki_the_G I couldn't agree more, especially with as many bad apples as are seen on the force these days. It hurts to lose one who's demonstrated their honesty and integrity, but I can see where she might not want to deal with her coworkers staring at/talking about her, or even just feeling as if they might be, since it would likely ruin any enjoyment she got out of her career. (I can't imagine a member of the public asking her about it while she's working! Actually... i take that back. I CAN imagine it. People can be horrible!) I hope she establishes herself in another department where she has a bit of anonymity with her coworkers, and can start her life over, so to speak.

You can't live your life, afraid, like that.
Sure, abductions happen in public places; but the best advice that can be given to anyone, is DO NOT get in the car with anyone who attempts to abduct you.
If someone approaches you, with a gun or a knife, in a public place, and demands you come with them, or get into their car ... don't go.
Call their bluff!! Tell them, "Sorry, but I'm not getting into the car with you. If you're going to kill me, then you're going to have to kill me here."
Because, if you get into their car, and ride away with them, you know damned well that you're not going to survive. So, force their hand, and make them have to kill you where someone might see them do it. If you're a woman, and the abductor is a male, then he's obviously attempting an abduction because he wants to rape you. Force him to act without getting what he's really after.

If you watch a few more videos or read a little more on Edwin Lara himself you get the picture that he'd actually had fantasies of abducting and killing women for a long time. Men like him don't just snap one day and decide to kill. They think about it for years - sometimes decades. He just found that one opportunity with poor Kaylee Sawyer (and later with Aundrea Maes) and decided that he was finally going to act on his urges. He really was a potential serial killer hiding in plain sight. Having a wife, family and good job would have meant nothing to him as soon as he had a chance to fulfill that urge which was what mattered more than anything to him. I was more surprised that he didn't kill Aundrea Maes but in Lara's mind she acted like a human shield for police not to shoot when they arrested him. Unfortunately, Lara is not in a minority.

this story got crazier and crazier, wow. I feel so bad for the girl who lost her life. I'm so glad the other was not hurt, she was smart to say what she did. I'll never forget when I was like 5 years old I was riding my bike and grabbed the mail before heading inside because it was getting dark out. I noticed our mail was mixed up with our neighbors (he was a single male, he would always wink at me whenever I saw him), and I decided to bring his mail to him. I remember him opening the door snd inviting me inside, and as soon as I stepped inside he shut and locked the door behind me. I was just a baby but I can still remember the fear that ran through me at that moment. he asked if my parents knew I had come over, and I somehow knew enough to lie and say that my mom was the one who told me to bring it over and we were just about to have dinner, that she was waiting for me. he questioned me on this, and tried asking if I'd rather have dinner at his house, but I said no and repeated my mom was waiting for me. I just remember staring at that doorknob as he unlocked it and turned it slowly and I RAN home. it's crazy what comes to mind in the moment, when your body recognizes the danger you're in. I feel so lucky because idk what wouldve happened had I thrown a tantrum or hadn't lied to him like I did. this was back in the 90s.

LOL I was just about to post my comment about my cat sitting and watching this video with me (which he never does bc he always has the zoomies in the morning) when I saw your comment. It must be a cat thing! No snow here (just rain... Seattle, you know!) and no coffee, but a cat and TC still really makes the a.m.!

Not a hero. Just human. Anyone who would do otherwise is not only unethical but also a criminal, since she'd be arrested for not turning him in.

Best true crime channel by a country mile. Plenty of other channels get credit for acknowledging the victim when they actually do a bare minimum. This channel comes across as more genuine than any other and the storytelling is excellent 👍🏼

My favorite crime channel. No fancy edits, factually telling the story, showing everything relevant to the case. One of my biggest pet peeves is when the crime channel tells a story but uses stock footage instead of something relevant to the case, hate those channels.

I rarely comment on videos but this one got me. This case is so sad. What he did to her is horrifying. I am so mad at the justice system for letting him live and giving those two druggies a terribly lenient sentence. Man, there is no real justice in our world.

Kaylee's death broke my heart into pieces. I feel for her Mom. I have a vibrant, kind daughter I'm very close to, I can't imagine the devastation Kaylee's mom went through. Oh my God, bless Kaylee's family. Please continue to help them while they go through the pain and suffering they have endured, and are still enduring.
