  • 7-46. The beam is subjected to a shear of V = 800 N. Determine the average shear stress developed in the nails along the sides A and B if the nails are spaced s = 100 mm apart. Each nail has a diameter of 2 mm.

    Please can you explain the y formula in 2:31 ?
    You said y bar = y’A’ + 2(y’2 A2)/ A1+2A?
    Like why is there 2 in front of y’2?

      You can see the 2 vertical boards nailed on each side so instead of writing them seperate I multiplied it with 2 as both boards are same in dimensions

    Why did you not multiply (Fh/s) by 2 (nails) when the area you chose was impacted by the 2 nails? The last example 7-38, you did so.

      your answer lies in the both questions. in one question we have to find the shear stress on both sides of nail so we take 2A while in other question we have to find the shear stress on nail only....
