  • Come visit one of our absolute FAVOURITE jungle villages with us - Batu Katak in North Sumatra.
    This little village is tucked away on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. Although it's just 30 minutes from the more well-known jungle trekking spot of Bukit Lawang, this enchanting village feels like a different world.
    Perched on the edge of the Berkail River, Batu Katak is the gateway to not only the precious Leuser Ecosystem, but home to a unique area of karst forest. Both these gorgeous habitats are home to an impressive array of flora and fauna - from orangutans and gibbons to the mindblowing enormous flowers (Rafflesia and Titan arum - coming in a future video!)
    From the family-run, friendly guesthouses, you can wake up to the sounds of gibbons calling, swim in the pristine river, and head off to the Sumatran rainforest in search of adventures.
    In this video, we show you around the first guesthouse we stayed at, Jungle River, then wander down the gorgeous river to take a look around the colourful village before winding up with a refreshing swim.
    Next week, we take you jungle trekking into the Gunung Leuser National Park in search of the giant flowers found ONLY in Sumatra!

    Selemat Malam, Carly & Agung! Looking forward to hearing a gibbon call me just spoke with a friend, former prof rafting teacher with Sobek who rates Sumatra no. 1, Borneo, No. 2. Love from Cookie
    Do they still have Rafting in Sumatra? Great filming!

    • @ExploringSumatra
      @ExploringSumatra  Před rokem

      Hello Liz! We tried to film the gibbon calls on our first morning but our GoPro had major tech issues, so we missed the whole thing! But I think we managed to get some audio of them on the last morning. That's great to hear that Sumatra is top rated - we haven't been to Borneo but I'm sure it's incredible too! There is a company that does white water rafting on the Asahan river a few hours from Toba - it looks amazing! 😀

      @@ExploringSumatra Hi Carly, never knew Sumatra was famous 4 white-water rafting!
      Tech disasters happening here everyday. Looking forward to gibbons on your travels.
      More adventures await you & Agung. You both know the places & can hand-pick your trips & plan 4 tech clutches. Keep the river in your adventures! Very exciting. Starting to train Cookie on a lease & take her in the car.

      @@lizcarlyle2477 Yes - I think last year there was a big white water kayak competition where all the top athletes from the world came to the Asahan river. It looked amazing! Yes - tech disasters are an all too common part of life, especially as a creator haha. So many amazing places to explore - we feel very lucky to be based here! Yay for Cookie and her adventures too! 😃
